JPJ smells a syndicate after foreigner caught with fake Malaysian licence in flashy ride
JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the individual was among nine foreigners caught driving luxury vehicles with various offences, including with no insurance and expired road tax, during the operation that began last Thursday.
'The most serious offence detected was the possession of a fake Malaysian driving licence by a foreigner from a South Asian country. JPJ will conduct further investigations to identify how the fake licence was obtained.
'We do not rule out the possibility of a syndicate forging the document, and a thorough investigation from various aspects will be carried out,' he told a press conference here today.
He said all nine foreigners had been issued summonses.
Muhammad Kifli said JPJ would seek the cooperation of the Malaysian Immigration Department and related agencies to investigate the case, stressing that no leniency would be shown to any individual, including foreigners, who violates traffic laws.

PETALING JAYA, Aug 12 — The operator of a Bell 206L4 helicopter that crashed in Bentong, Pahang, on February 6 failed to follow safety procedures for hot refuelling, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has found in its preliminary report. In the report published on its website, AAIB said that video from the day before the crash showed the aircraft hovering with its rotor blades running while moving closer to a ground engineer standing beneath the main rotor disc. This, it said, was in breach of rules requiring crew to wait at a safe distance until a thumbs-up signal from the pilot. To note, hot refuelling is the process of filling an aircraft's fuel tanks while its engine is running. The AAIB deemed that unsafe actions by both the pilot and the engineer, combined with the absence of a site safety officer from the lessee, contributed to complacency and heightened risk. The report also recommended a full mental and physical health assessment for the pilot and updates to operational manuals to explicitly define safe distances during landing approaches. The Indonesian-registered PK-ZUV, operated by PT Zaveryna Utama under a wet lease to MHS Aviation Berhad, had been supporting a Tenaga Nasional Berhad transmission tower construction project. On the day of the accident, the helicopter was returning to a helicopter landing site for refuelling when it descended to release a cargo sling and attempted to reposition towards fuel drums. It made abnormal ground contact, lost control, overturned, and caught fire, with its rotor blades striking the 27-year-old engineer, who died at the scene. The 44-year-old pilot suffered minor injuries. The AAIB stressed that the probable cause will be determined in the final report.

Four family members killed in Gua Musang crash laid to rest in single grave
PASIR MAS, Aug 12 — The remains of four victims killed in a horrific crash involving a car and a trailer lorry in Gua Musang yesterday were laid to rest in a single grave at the Kubang Bemban Muslim Cemetery here at 11.30 pm. Earlier, the victims' remains were claimed by family members from the Forensic Medicine Department at Gua Musang Hospital after the post-mortem examinations were completed. In the 9.15 am incident, four people, including two children, were killed and another was seriously injured after their car collided with a trailer lorry on the main road at Felda Chiku 1, Gua Musang. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Faiz Nor Amran, 32; his younger sister, Nor Aina Imra, 21; and his two sons, Muhammad Aryan Fattah, 5, and Muhammad Ayden Fattah, 4. Lawyers: Injuries found on Zara Qairina after exhumation, awaiting full report before revealing more
KOTA KINABALU, Aug 12 — Lawyers representing the family of 13-year-old schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir said the post-mortem following the exhumation of her body revealed signs of injury. In a statement last night, counsels Shahlan Jufri and Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi said the injuries were detected during the eight-hour autopsy but stressed that they would not disclose further details until the official medical report is released. 'To avoid discrepancies between the verbal findings conveyed to us and Zara's mother after the post-mortem, and the official report that will be issued by the hospital, we will withhold further comment for now,' they said. They expressed gratitude to the Attorney General's Chambers for instructing police to seek a court order to exhume Zara's remains, which were examined in the autopsy at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on August 10. 'We thank the Attorney General's Chambers for directing the police to apply for the exhumation and post-mortem. We also appreciate the police's close supervision during the entire process,' they said. The lawyers also thanked members of the public, including journalists, who gathered at the cemetery and hospital grounds on Saturday from morning until night to witness the exhumation, reburial, and post-mortem. 'Your support means a great deal to us,' they said. Zara's death, initially believed to be the result of a fall at her dormitory, has sparked nationwide outrage, with calls for justice growing louder in recent weeks. Public suspicion was fuelled by the absence of an initial autopsy and what was seen as a lack of transparency from the authorities. Speculation over bullying and an alleged cover-up involving families of influential 'VIPs' — which has not been verified — further heightened anger.
