Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since IPL 2025 and is not part of India's ongoing Test tour of England, was on Saturday named in Bengal's 50-member list of probables for the upcoming domestic season.
The list, released by the Cricket Association of Bengal, also includes pacer Akash Deep and top-order batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, who are both currently touring England with the Indian team.
It also includes right-arm seamer Mukesh Kumar and senior batter Anustup Majumdar, who is likely to lead Bengal again.

Spin bowling all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed, who is currently recovering from an injury sustained in the Bengal Pro League T20, and wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel are also among the probables who will attend a preseason camp, the date and venue of which is yet to be announced.
Shami could also feature for East Zone in the season-opening Duleep Trophy, which returns to its traditional inter-zonal format this year and begins on August 28.
The tournament may mark Shami's return to competitive cricket.
The 33-year-old Shami, who has played 64 Tests, 108 ODIs and 25 T20Is, last turned out for India in their triumphant campaign in the Champions Trophy early this year after recovering from an ankle injury.
He picked up nine wickets in five matches – joint-highest for India alongside Varun Chakravarthy, who took his nine in just three games – as India defeated New Zealand in the final.
But Shami was below par in the IPL where he turned out for his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad and managed just six wickets in nine innings at an economy rate of 11.23.
He had earlier returned to international cricket in the T20I series at home against England in January this year, having last played in the ODI World Cup final in November 2023.

Shami had made domestic comeback with Bengal in the last season where he played across all formats, but was not picked for the tour of Australia.

Why Arshad Nadeem will not compete against Neeraj Chopra at Diamond League in Poland

The much-anticipated duel between double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem at the Diamond League in Poland is unlikely after the Pakistani javelin thrower underwent a surgery on his calf muscle in England recently. According to a report in Dawn, Nadeem could miss two upcoming Diamond League meets next month so as to focus on the World Championships in Tokyo. At the Silesia Diamond League meet in Poland, Chopra and Nadeem were scheduled to face each other for the first time since their men's javelin competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the Pakistani came out on top, beating his Indian counterpart for the gold medal with a stunning 92.97m throw. The 27-year-old Chopra, who had won gold in Tokyo Olympics in 2021, finished second in Paris with a best throw of 89.45m behind Nadeem's Olympic-record effort of 92.97m Nadeem's coach Salman Butt, who is with him in England, informed that the reigning Olympic champion is unsure for both the events as he was more focussed on making his comeback at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September. 'He (Nadeem) is more focussed on preparing for the World Championships in Tokyo in September which is why he decided to have the surgery on his calf muscle which had been bothering for a while now,' Butt said, according to PTI. 'I don't think they will compete against each other until the World event.' Dr Ali Bajwa performed an interventional procedure on Nadeem's calf muscle at the Spire Hospital in Cambridge. Nadeem is now undergoing rehabilitation in London and Butt said if the doctor gives clearance, he might compete in one event before the World Championships in Tokyo. 'The World Championships are very important for Arshad (Nadeem) as he finished with a silver behind Neeraj (Chopra) in Budapest in 2023,' the coach said. Nadeem has won gold medals at the Paris Olympics, 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and recently the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea earlier this year. 'We are now doing rehab work with a physiotherapist in London,' Butt was quoted as saying by Dawn. 'This is a two-week plan before we test ourselves for going back to regular workouts. We are trying to achieve good form for the World Championship in Tokyo and maybe compete in one competition before Tokyo if Arshad regains good form by then.' The Gumi event is Nadeem's first and only competitive appearance so far in 2025 where he threw 86.34m in the qualification round, before clinching the Asian title in the final with a throw of 86.40. Neeraj hadn't entered the Asian Athletics Championships. The Indian, however, has been quite active on the athletics circuit. After a warm-up event in South Africa, Neeraj started the year in sensational style at Doha Diamond League with a career-best throw of 90.23m, crossing 90m barrier for the first time and entering the elite club. He has since competed at Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, Paris Diamond League, Ostrava Golden Spike and Neeraj Chopra Classic. 'The Indian-Pakistani battle awaiting the Polish fans will be the first opportunity for revenge after the Paris Olympics,' the tournament's website had stated while announcing the participation of key global stars. 'The Pakistani's form remains something of a mystery, as he rarely appears on the European circuit. The exception he will make on August 16th results from his desire to face Chopra. The latter became the 26th thrower in history to surpass 90 metres this spring. And he is certainly yearning for more.' (With PTI inputs)

RJ Mahvash shares video of Yuzvendra Chahal's birthday celebration, says ‘iPhone waale party ke photos bhej nahi rahe'

Actor RJ Mahvash posted a birthday celebration video for her rumoured partner, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, on Instagram. She shared a video of Chahal celebrating his birthday in a restaurant on Instagram along with a quirky message for him. She wrote,'@yuzi_chahal23 iphone wale party ke photos bhej nai rahe isko par mere pas yehi ek tha, ye rakhle mast." RJ Mahvash' Instagram story. Prior to the birthday celebration video, Mahvash shared a birthday message for Chahal, which read, 'Happy Birthday Yuzi! Getting older is a part of life and other parts are even worse. So all the best @yuzi_chahal23.' Cricketer Chahal marked his 35th birthday on July 23 in London. A video from the celebration emerged online. Chahal looked visibly excited and hugged Mahvash, who was all smiles as she watched him enjoy the event. The rumours about Mahvash and Chahal's relationship surfaced amid the cricketer's separation from his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma. The rumours began after they were spotted at a Christmas event last year. Chahal was seen at the Champions Trophy final in Dubai with Mahvash after his separation from Dhanashree Verma this year, sparking relationship rumours again. RJ Mahvash has repeatedly said that they are just friends. She also posted a story on Instagram that said, "Some articles and speculations have been circulating around the internet. It's literally funny to see how baseless these rumours are. If you get seen with a person of the opposite gender, does that mean you are dating them? I'm sorry, what year is this? And how many people are you all dating then?" She further added, 'I have been patient for 2-3 days now, but I won't let any PR teams drag my name into this to cover up other people's images. Let people live in peace with their friends and family during tough times.' Nevertheless, during a 2025 IPL Trophy match, she was seen boarding the Punjab Kings team bus with the wives and girlfriends of cricketers, fueling relationship rumours again.
