Trams suspended as police investigate incident on Broad Street
Trams were suspended as police investigate an incident in Birmingham city centre. Emergency vehicles blocked tram lines on Broad Street, leaving them unable to operate between the Library of Birmingham and Edgbaston Village. A police cordon remains in operation outside the Coyote Ugly bar, where charred bits of wood and broken signage lay on the floor outside. West Midlands Metro posted on its X account before 05:30 GMT on Tuesday - with trams confirmed to be running again within the hour. The BBC has contacted West Midlands Police for comment.

Ukraine War: Russian drones damage Kyiv in 'massive' attack after prisoner swap
A "massive" Russian drone and missile attack hit several regions in Ukraine overnight, leaving 12 dead and dozens injured. Ukrainian authorities report that Russian drone attacks killed three children in the Kyiv region in the early hours of Sunday morning. Ukraine's first Deputy Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, said: "Russia's targets are clear: homes, families, children." The capital was not the only place hit by Russian drone attacks overnight. In Mykolaiv, Ukraine's ninth-largest city, a residential building was hit. Local authorities report that a man in his 70s was killed. Footage from Odesa showed emergency responders trying to extinguish fires as smoke billowed from cars and houses. Ukraine's air force said it had shot down 45 cruise missiles and took out 266 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) since 20:40 local time (17:40 GMT) on Saturday. Advice for residents still in Kyiv is to remain in shelters. The city's Mayor, former boxer Vitaliy Klitschko, described it as a "massive" attack. He said: "Explosions in the city. Air defence forces are working. The capital is under attack by enemy UAVs. Do not neglect your safety! Stay in shelters!" The attacks came as Russia and Ukraine took part in prisoner swaps agreed after talks between the two sides in Turkey. The exchange took place at the border with Belarus in northern Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly. The released Russians were taken to Belarus for medical treatment, the Russian Defence Ministry said. As the freed men entered the medical facility on Friday, people holding signs and photos of their relatives shouted names or brigade numbers, seeking any news of a loved one. The exchange comes after the first in-person talks between the two sides in three years, held in Turkey. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a two-hour phone conversation to discuss a U.S.-backed proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump described the call as having gone "very well" and stated that Russia and Ukraine would "immediately start" negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and bringing the war to an end. However, Putin has only committed to working with Ukraine on drafting a "memorandum" concerning a "potential future peace," and has not agreed to the proposed 30-day ceasefire.

Music industry pays tribute to agent Dave Shapiro after San Diego plane crash
Loving tributes are being paid to a music agent and a famous drummer after they were both killed in a plane crash. Talent spotter Dave Shapiro and former The Devil Wears Prada sticksman Dan Williams were two of six passengers involved in the San Diego, California tragedy. A private Cessna 550 aircraft veered into a suburban street in San Diego and crashed at around 3.45am local time on Thursday (10.45am GMT), injuring eight people on the ground. Shapiro's Sound Talent Group confirmed his death in a statement that paid tribute to the work he'd done down the years, representing bands like Sum 41, Story of the Year, and Pierce the Veil. 'We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder [David], colleagues and friends. Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today's tragedy.' Shapiro's aviation company Velocity shared: 'From BASE jumping to aerobatic flying, helicopters to twin engines, flight instructing to furthering his own education, doesn't matter to Dave as long as he gets to be in the sky.' While Williams' death is yet to be confirmed by police, his former Devil Wears Prada bandmates posted about their shock and heartbreak on Instagram. Sharing a picture of the drummer, they said of Williams – who left the group in 2016 after 11 years: 'No words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.' Williams was a founding member of the Christian heavy metal group and performed on several of their albums, including US top 20 releases With Roots Above & Branches Below and Dead Throne. Alternative music podcast State of the Scene shared a post about the crash: 'Heart goes out to Dave Shapiro and Daniel Williams' family and friends. What a tragedy this week has been.' On Reddit, AwareEmergency57 said: 'Genuinely devastated by this. I looked up to him as a drummer and as a person. God damn man, it feels like everyday has been filled with demoralizing headlines and this one is hitting hard. Life is just unfair.' FlimsyTomatoes also said: 'Man, [Shapiro] launched the careers of so many great bands. He was also the drummer of [rock band] Cinematic Sunrise. Such a sad day.' Prior to the crash, Shapiro and Williams uploaded pictures from inside the plane, which appeared to show Williams was sitting in the co-pilot's seat while Shapiro flew the plane. More Trending Shapiro leaves behind his wife Julia – the pair tied the knot in 2016. In 2020, he said of her: 'Despite all the uncertainty in our business, and in the world, I still wake up grateful every day.' As well as managing bands in the alternative rock scene in California, Shapiro also represented 90s number one stars Hanson and A Thousand Miles singer Vanessa Carlton. After the crash, several homes and cars were also damaged. 100 people have been evacuated from the Murphy Canyon area of San Diego, which lies to the north of the city. Got a story?
