SIR ROD STEWART was taken back in time 30 years to an emotional day in Scottish football with the help of a Scottish Junior club this month.
The Celtic-daft rocker, 80, crossed the Old Firm divide back in 1995 when he took part in a charity game in honour of late Rangers great Davie Cooper.

Ibrox legend Cooper tragically passed away in March of that year aged just 39 and on June 1, Celtic and Rangers icons united to pay tribute to the former Clydebank, Motherwell and Gers winger.
A charity game was held in his honour at Newlandsfield Park which saw the likes of Walter Smith, Tommy Burns and Jimmy Johnstone all turn out for Davie Cooper's Appeal Select.
It was an emotional day for all as Old Firm heroes put their rivalries to one side to remember the iconic wide-man.
But it was the Maggie May singer who was the headline act as he captained the L.A. Exiles and played 35 minutes before he suffered an injury and was forced off before half-time.
The Los Angeles based team was an amateur team which Stewart owned and was made up of English expatriates plus a few celebrities, including Billy Duffy of the Cult.
They played in a senior football league in Palos Verdes, California.
Around 6,500 fans turned up to Newlandsfield in the Southside to watch Stewart take on Burns and Smith and Co in 1995.
It was an occasion that is still fondly remembered to this day as Pollok FC - the club that hosted the showdown - paid tribute to the emotional day in one of their recent match-day programmes.
Pollok hosted Benburb FC in the West of Scotland Premier Division on April 12 and the club printed a rarely-seen picture of Stewart alongside Old Firm greats Burns and Smith, who were holding the league and Scottish Cup trophy.
The picture was taken either before the charity game or post-match.

And Stewart now has a piece of memorabilia to remember the iconic day as Pollok revealed last night that some fans managed to get a hold of the singer and sent him a copy of the programme.
The rocker posed for a picture while holding the prized copy, which he signed with the message, "thank you Pollok".
The club then shared the snap and responded with a message to the icon as well.
Their caption read: "One of our matchday programmes found its way to @rodstewart, and we hope he enjoyed revisiting his visit to Newlandsfield in 1995!
"Thanks for supporting the Southside's local team!"

Russell Martin has vowed to win over his critics after being unveiled as Rangers ' new head coach. The 39-year-old was paraded at Ibrox yesterday after signing a three-year deal to spearhead the revolution under the club's new American owners. The former Scotland and Norwich City defender, who had a brief loan stint at Rangers in 2018, has previously managed MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton. But his appointment has been met with some disapproval and anger among the fanbase, with many supporters questioning his credentials for the job. Asked if he is confident he can silence the critics, Martin replied: 'Yeah, I have to be. I think I have a lot to prove. I have done it my whole career. 'My whole career has been based on proving people wrong, really. At every level, I got questioned. 'I got to the Premier League as a player. I wasn't convinced that I could do it, but I managed to establish myself there for a little while. 'I ended up playing four or five seasons there, played international football, which I'm incredibly proud of. 'So, it's the same again as a manager, I have to prove people wrong at every opportunity.' Out of work since leaving Southampton last December, Martin was described as the standout candidate by Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart in what became a lengthy recruitment process. The club had also held talks with Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti, but it was Martin's vision, experience, and style of play that elevated him above the other contenders. 'There's always some names in football management that are always a bit more exciting than others, of course,' said Martin, when asked about his rivals for the job. 'I feel after five-and-a-half-years of being a manager, being a coach, being a leader in an environment, I love doing it. 'I'm going to be all in here with my energy, and my love for it, and passion, and hopefully that will reflect on the pitch and people will see that, and at some point they'll enjoy it. 'And hopefully, like I said, hopefully they just want to win, and if our team is winning, I'm sure they'll be happy. 'I don't think I've been the number one choice [among fans] at any club I've been at. But by the time we've left every club I've been at, I felt a real connection with the supporters. 'I am excited to be here and I want to build a Rangers team who the fans can identify with and are excited to watch.' The former centre-back, who won 29 caps between 2011 and 2017, revealed that he had knocked back a few jobs since leaving Southampton six months ago. He had been strongly linked with a move to Leicester City but made it clear to the Rangers hierarchy right from the outset that he wanted the job at Ibrox. Asked what success will look like moving forward, he explained: 'I think it's to win trophies. 'It's to build a culture at the training ground here that we are proud of, and that people can feel when they come into the building, and that the ownership want to feel when they come into the building. 'An environment of hard work, of honesty, of openness inside and outside of the building and to see a team that doesn't look different every week, that is always trying to improve and develop in our own way. 'Rather than focusing on the opposition too much or what other people are doing, we're going to do it our way and we're all going to be fully on the same page. 'I think the alignment and what I've felt over the last few weeks in the process is the most important part for me. The 39-year-old familiarises himself with the home dugout as he is introduced at Ibrox 'I think we're all on the same journey. We want to be successful and, ultimately at Rangers, that means to win trophies. 'We have to improve the team on the pitch, improve the environment on the pitch as much as we possibly can. Because there are already some brilliant people at the football club. 'Some of them I know and worked with here and I've spoken to over the last couple of days who I'm really excited to work with again, to see and link up with again. 'So to keep building on that and to bring our own twist on it and to win. I always want my teams to be aggressive, with and without the ball, and to be dominant.' The Rangers squad are currently on holiday and are not due back for pre-season until June 23. Martin will work alongside new sporting director Kevin Thelwell over the coming weeks to formulate plans around recruitment. It was also confirmed yesterday that Matt Gill, one of his long-time lieutenants, will come in as assistant manager, while Rhys Owen will join as a fitness and performance coach.

The former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton manager takes over from Philippe Clement, who departed in February and was replaced by interim boss Barry Ferguson. The appointment of a new boss comes following the confirmation of the takeover by an American consortium of Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises while Kevin Thelwell recently officially joined the Light Blues from Everton as the new sporting director. Rangers supporters are unhappy with his performance in the Premier League, where he was sacked by Southampton after a horror start to the season, after bringing them up through the play-offs. There is the perception that Martin was too dogmatic in his possession-based style of play and paid the price in the English top flight. He is already under severe and unprecedented pressure to hit the ground running. There's plenty of work to be done to overhaul Rangers' squad which ended up trophyless last season, albeit reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Rangers confirmed the departures of Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence with their contracts set to expire. Loanees Vaclav Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes have also left the club while players like Robin Propper, Nedim Bajrami, Ben Davies, Kieran Dowall – the latter two who spent last season at loan at Birmingham – are expected to depart. Midfielder Lyall Cameron will arrive from Dundee but he will not be alone. Arguably, a new goalkeeper, right-back, left-back, two centre-backs, two wingers, a number 10 and a striker is required. Of course, much will depend on the style favoured by Martin and how much money is made available but the Light Blues will have a new look next season. Midfielder Nicolas Raskin is arguably the club's biggest asset following a terrific season during which he broke into the Belgium national side. The 24-year-old, who signed from Standard Liege in January 2023 for a reported fee of around £1.3million has two years left on his contract. Rangers fans remain disgruntled about players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos who were allowed to run down their deals and leave for nothing. Enigmatic Cyriel Dessers has often been a frustrating figure since signing from Cremonese in 2023 but ended up top scorer in the Premiership last season with 18 goals while he netted 29 times for Rangers in total, taking his tally over two seasons to 51. Rangers fans appear split on whether the Nigeria international, contracted to 2027, should stay or go. But how much would it cost to replace him with a striker who guarantees the same goal return? Martin may just have walked in the door but he will be expected to win silverware this season with Celtic dominating Scottish football. Rangers fans watched their Old Firm rivals clinch their 13th league title in 14 seasons – albeit the Light Blues had a better head-to-head in league games – and only a Scottish Cup final defeat to Aberdeen on penalties denied the Hoops a sixth domestic treble in nine years. The Light Blues will have to go through three rounds of qualifying in order to reach the league phase of the Champions League, the first of which is July 22-23. It's set to be a blockbuster transfer window for the champions - and moves are already underway PAOK technical director Christos Karipidis has lifted the lid on talks with Greg Taylor. The Celtic left-back is weighing up his options ahead of his current Parkhead deal expiring this month - with Brendan Rodgers previously stating he is keen to keep the Scotland cap and see him battle it out with Kieran Tierney. But with the 27-year-old arriving from Arsenal, Taylor will see his status as first-choice left-back come under major scrutiny. PAOK have been strongly linked with the 27-year-old as they prepare for their Europa League campaign - and are said to have offered two year contract with the option of a third that will trump his current Celtic salary. Taylor is currently in Dubai with his family on holiday following the end of the double-winning season and speaking to Greek outlet Alpha, Karipidis appeared confident over an agreement. In terms of arrivals, Celtic are weighing up a blockbuster £12m bid for the Brondby star Mathias Kvistgaarden who is rated as one of the hottest properties in the Superliga. He has been called up to the Denmark national side for the first time amid rocketing interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and the Hoops - who have long been admirers of the 23-year-old. Before the end of the Danish season, the forward expressed he was ready to leave Brondby this summer. Speaking to TV 2 Sport after his first call-up he said: "I think I'm ready. I've made my mark at Brondby and in the Superliga, so I'm ready to take the next step." The club are also looking to offload fringe men - and despite Olympiacos will not pick up the £3.5million option-to-buy in Luis Palma 's loan El Heraldo report that the player's representatives are looking for "a route out of Celtic" permanently this summer. Gustaf Lagerbielke's permanent exit could also land the club a windfall - but FC Twente won't bring in the Swede long-term with a £3million option-to-buy with VI reporting there is a "good chance" he will return to Glasgow.
