Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino departs after one season

Yahooa day ago

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) — Fiorentina says coach Raffaele Palladino has left the Serie A club 'by mutual consent' after only one season in charge.
It was reported earlier this week that Palladino had handed in his resignation but that the club was trying to convince the 41-year-old coach to stay.

'Fiorentina can confirm that Raffaele Palladino's contract, as well as those of his backroom team, has today been terminated by mutual consent,' the Italian club said Friday in a brief statement.
Palladino coached Fiorentina to a sixth-placed finish in Serie A and a Conference League spot. It was regarded as a successful season, so his reported resignation had caught club management off guard.
Fiorentina also reached the semifinals of the Conference League. It had lost in the final of that competition in each of the previous two seasons, under Vincenzo Italiano.
Less than a week after the season ended, the Serie A coaching carousel is ramping up. Massimiliano Allegri returned to AC Milan on Friday and a number of other changes are expected.

Associated Press CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Cayden Brumbaugh and Hogan Helligso each had a home run and two RBIs, Ty Horn struck out six in 7 1/3 innings and Nebraska beat Holy Cross 4-1 on Saturday to remain in the Chapel Hill Regional. Nebraska (33-28) will play in another must-win game on Sunday against the loser of the North Carolina-Oklahoma game. Holy Cross (31-27), in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017 and second since 1978, had its season come to an end. Helligso, batting in the No. 9 spot, hit his third home run of the season in the seventh. Helligso added an insurance run on an RBI single in the eighth. Red Sox place Liam Hendriks on the injured list, recall Nick Burdi from Triple-A Worcester

Associated Press BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks has been placed on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right hip. The Red Sox announced Friday the move is retroactive to Wednesday and that right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi had been recalled from Triple-A Worcester. Hendriks has made 14 appearances this season, posting a 6.59 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings. He has 116 saves in 490 career games with six teams since 2007. Burdi, 32, has thrown 2 1/3 scoreless innings over two relief appearances for Boston. He was 4-0 with four saves and an 0.48 ERA in 15 appearances for Worcester. Hendriks took to social media May 22 to express his displeasure about death threats he says he received following a loss to the New York Mets. The 36-year-old right-hander previously battled non-Hodgkin lymphoma and, in a post on Instagram, said comments were directed at him and his family and that people said they wished he would have died from cancer. ___ AP MLB: recommended in this topic

Young, 21, was a No. 21 overall pick in the 2022 MLB amateur draft and was the Mariners' No. 3 overall prospect, per MLB Pipeline, at the time of his promotion. He was off to a solid start to the year in the Pacific Coast League. For the season, Young was hitting .277 with an .853 OPS for the Rainiers. In May, though, Young was particularly excellent, hitting .366 with a .467 on-base percentage, as well as 10 doubles, three triples and five home runs. ___ AP MLB: recommended
