Ricki Lake's amazing transformation and talk show legend's surprising new career

Daily Recorda day ago

Ricki Lake's chat show was a staple on British TV screens in the late 90s and early 00s and she has since gone on to have a remarkable career and personal transformation
A familiar face on televisions worldwide in the late 90s and early 00s, Ricki Lake is perhaps most recognised for her role as the original Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 film Hairspray, which later became a musical and was subsequently remade into a movie.
Following the film, she rose to household fame with her eponymous daytime talk show. However, decades after the show's conclusion, Ricki is back in the limelight due to an impressive career shift and personal transformation.

From the 90s until 2004, Ricki's talk show was a regular feature in homes across America and beyond, discussing real-life issues across a variety of topics, often delving into relationship disputes and dilemmas.

The show premiered in 1993 when Ricki was just 24-years-old and enjoyed a successful run of 11 seasons. A year after the show's debut, Ricki married her first husband, Rob Sussman, a New York Times illustrator who found it challenging to cope with the pressures of being married to a celebrity.
In a conversation with People magazine at the time, Sussman expressed that being financially dependent on Ricki was "really unhealthy and emasculating", reports the Mirror US. He added: "I don't want to become Mr Ricki Lake."

The couple had two sons before their marriage ended in 2003.
In the ensuing years, the former actress and host has embarked on a diverse range of ventures.
In 2011, she took to the dance floor on Dancing with the Stars, and her television credits also include appearances on reality shows such as Drop the Mic, The Masked Singer, and The X Factor: Celebrity.

Meanwhile, she also explored documentary-making, serving as the executive producer of 2008's The Business of Being Born, which examined childbirth, and contributing to 2018's Weed the People, a documentary focused on the use of marijuana in treating children with cancer.
In 2020, she opened up about her long-standing struggle with alopecia and her determination to improve her overall health.

Recently, she revealed that she and her second husband, Ross Burningham, have collectively shed more than 30 pounds in the past four months. Taking to Instagram, Ricki shared: "Hi friends. I've been wanting to share with you what I've been up to these last four months. On October 26, 2023, I made a commitment to myself to get healthier," she wrote.
"My husband, Ross, joined me in this effort. Together we have each lost 30+ pounds. I really want to share, because we did this without relying on pharmaceuticals. (Not that there is anything wrong with that.)".
Now 55 and going through perimenopause, Ricki admitted she was initially uncertain whether her body would respond to weight loss efforts as it had in the past, but expressed pride and amazement at their progress, saying: "Being 55 and in perimenopause, I was a bit worried that my body would not drop the pounds like it had in the past. I am so so proud of us. I feel amazing. I feel strong."
She teased a future post in which she would elaborate on her approach, stating, "I will go in-depth in another post about what I did exactly, but suffice to say, this is the healthiest way I've lost weight in all of my years."
She accompanied her reflection with contrasting photos from her initial weight loss journey 17 years earlier, when she cut her weight by half. She remarked: "I held onto this #NormaKamali one-piece for all these years wondering if I would ever be able to wear it again."

Bruce Willis' daughter Rumer calls him her 'inspiration' amid battle with dementia

Rumer Willis, eldest daughter of Die Hard star Bruce Willis, has made a rare comment about her father during health battle. Rumer Willis has publically credited her dad for inspiring her to become an action star amid his heartbreaking battle with dementia. In 2023, Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Two years on and the Die Hard star is now "non-verbal" and requires care 24-hours a day. Back in 2022, the action hero decided to retire from acting after he was diagnosed with language disorder aphasia in March that year. One year later, his family confirmed that his disease had developed into FTD. ‌ This form of dementia has a typical life expectancy of six to eight years, however it can also be as low as two years in certain cases, reports the Mirror. ‌ Rumer, 36, is the oldest of Bruce's children, who he shares with actress Demi Moore. The couple were married from 1989 to 2000, and they also had two other daughters - Scout, 33 and Tallulah, 31. After their divorce, Bruce went on to marry British model Emma Heming and share two more daughters, Mabel Ray, 12 and Evelyn Penn, 10. ‌ Rumer has revealed that she is following in her dad's footsteps as she is making her way in the action genre. Her new movie, Trail of Vengeance, sees her play a disgruntled widow named Katherine Atherton, who is out to get revenge after her husband was murdered. In an interview with People magazine, she said: "My dad is such an action man. My mom's done her fair share [of action] as well." ‌ With her movie now in cinemas, Rumer added: "I felt like a little kid when I found out I got [this role]." As Bruce slowly loses his fight with dementia, Rumer makes sure that her two-year-old daughter Louetta spends as much time as she can with her grandad. A source previously said: "Rumer wants to make sure Louetta knows Bruce. ‌ "She wants him to be actively involved in Louetta's life. It's a very special bond. Rumer and her sisters love their dad so much. They are very conscious that any day could be his last." Despite the divorce, his ex-wife Demi is also making sure that Bruce and their daughters are looked after. Previously speaking to Variety, Demi said: "We will always be a family, just in a different form." ‌ She added: "I've shared this before, but I really mean this so sincerely: It's so important for anybody who's dealing with this to really meet them where they're at. And from that place, there is such loving and joy." In a different interview with Town & Country magazine, Demi spoke of her ex-husband's diagnosis. She said: "Finally getting to a diagnosis was key so that I could learn what fronto-temporal dementia is and I could educate our children. I've never tried to sugarcoat anything for them." She has also spoken out about the best way she has found to take care of the 70-year-old action star: "The important thing is just to meet him where he's at, as opposed to being attached to who he was, how he was. "Because, again, that only just puts you in a place of loss versus being in the present, meeting him where he's at, and finding the joy and the loving of just all that is where he is." The ominous reason behind P Diddy's original stage name 'Puff Daddy'

More info Hip-hop titan Sean 'P Diddy' Combs, famously known by a plethora of stage names over the decades, finds himself in the spotlight at a New York City courthouse, standing trial over allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering. The 55-year-old celebrity, alongside his legal team, stoutly refutes the charges levelled against him, asserting his innocence as the proceedings pass the third week mark. Amidst ongoing legal battles and with P Diddy's purported criminal acts seizing public attention, many fans are only now uncovering the roots of his original moniker, Puff Daddy. Launching into fame in 1997, Combs skyrocketed to success when "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down," his first single, dominated the charts. READ MORE - Kate Middleton's brutal response when told she's lucky to have Prince William READ MORE - Meghan Markle's honest one-word response when asked about meeting Kate Middleton Throughout the years, he's opted for diverse aliases, starting as the infamous Puff Daddy before later adopting the tags P Diddy and Diddy. Pulled straight from Combs' own accounts, "Puff Daddy" traces back to his childhood moniker "Puff," stemming from his childhood habit of "huff and puff" antics whenever he lost his temper, reports the Mirror US. The epithet "Puff" laid the foundation for his initial foray into the rap game as Puff Daddy, clinching the top spot with his opening single in 1997. By then, Combs had already established himself as a major force in music, having founded Bad Boy Records in 1993 and crowning himself as its chief. In a bid for reinvention after being acquitted of gun possession and bribery charges in 2001, he swapped out Puff Daddy for P. Diddy, setting his sights on a fresh start. Sean Combs, the renowned rapper, had announced a name change from Puff Daddy to P Diddy back in 2001. "No more Puff Daddy - the first week in June, we're going to have a name-change ceremony," Combs stated at the time, adding: "I'm not doing it as serious as Prince. I just want something fresh. I'm rocking with P Diddy just now." He subsequently released his album, The Saga Continues, under the new moniker, although he had previously used the alias in record credits for his work with other artists. Combs attributed the origin of the name P. Diddy to his friend, the late rapper Notorious B.I. G. who was tragically shot and killed in 1997. Meanwhile, Combs' ongoing sex trafficking trial, which has featured testimony from his ex-partner Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, is expected to continue for at least five more weeks. In a recent development, imprisoned rapper Suge Knight has urged his long-time rival Combs to take the stand in the trial. Suge, currently serving a 28-year sentence for a 2015 fatal hit-and-run, believes Combs should defend himself in court to "humanize" himself and persuade the jury to "give him a shot". Suge commented that Combs' silence makes him appear "scared to face the music" and advised him to "have his faith in God." He added, "I feel if he does tell his truth, he really would walk."
