'Volunteers Bridging Divides': RSS Reports 'Positive Progress' In Manipur Conflict Zones
Although notable positive developments have been observed in Manipur, the RSS, at a press conference today, noted that achieving complete normalcy will require more time.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders Sunil Ambekar and Anil Agarwal held a joint press conference on Monday, touching upon various significant issues. The RSS said that with their workers on ground in Manipur, positive developments were taking place in the state.
'RSS volunteers are actively working to restore peace and foster dialogue among the Meitei and other communities affected by the conflict," said Ambekar, RSS's Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh. Although notable positive developments have been observed, the leaders noted that achieving complete normalcy will require more time.
The RSS is implementing inclusive outreach initiatives aimed at engaging diverse sections of society. People from border areas have actively participated in these programmes, reflecting growing trust and a widening social connection, the two RSS pracharaks said.
On the topic of the socialist and secular words in the Constitution, the RSS recalled the Emergency period as a time of severe political repression and constitutional violations. 'Democratic values were suspended, and amendments were made without a genuine public mandate," Ambekar said. The leaders urged future generations to study this dark chapter to understand the fragility of democracy when 'power is unchecked".
Language Row And Attacks By Congress
Regarding the language row, Sunil Ambekar stated that the RSS has always considered all Indian languages as national languages. He asserted that people should speak the language prevalent in their region, and primary education should be imparted in that language.
Discussing attacks from the Congress, the leaders mentioned that attempts to impose a ban on the RSS were met with public outrage or legal pressure, which led to the rollback, as the ban lacked legitimacy from the outset.
Under the Panch Parivartan framework, the RSS aims for comprehensive national transformation focusing on five key areas: advancing economic self-reliance, promoting individual well-being, nurturing values-based living, strengthening social welfare, and ensuring inclusive economic growth. The core focus of the RSS Centenary Year is to expand its outreach on a massive scale, ensuring a connection with every stratum of society and fostering inclusivity and national integration.
On intellectual engagement at the district level, the RSS plans to hold meetings in all 924 Sangh-structured districts involving intellectuals and esteemed personalities. These interactions aim to deepen ideological dialogue and strengthen the organisation's connection with thought leaders across the country.
As part of its mass outreach, the RSS will organise Hindu Sammelans in every mandal and basti, covering 58,000 mandals and 44,000 bastis. In total, over one lakh Hindu Sammelans will be held nationwide to strengthen grassroots connections.
Last year, during May and June, the RSS conducted over 100 Sangh Prashikshan Vargs (training camps), with 75 of them specifically for participants below 40 years of age. A total of 17,609 volunteers, including those at the Nagpur headquarters, participated in these camps. Additionally, 8,813 students took part in Sangh Shiksha Vargs, showcasing strong youth engagement. For the 40–60 age group, 4,270 volunteers were trained, highlighting inter-generational involvement in the organisation's ideological and practical training.

India should pursue services-focused trade deal with US: NITI Aaayog
NITI Aayog on Monday suggested that India should follow the model of the India-UK agreement to pursue a services-oriented trade deal with the US, with special focus on information technology, financial services, professional services, and education. The Aayog in its third edition of 'Trade Watch Quarterly' said there will be significant opportunities for India in the US markets both in terms of the number of products and volume of the US market. "Building on the model of the India-UK agreement, India should pursue a services-oriented trade deal with the US, placing strong emphasis on key sectors such as information technology, financial services, professional services, and education," it said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Victoria Principal Is Almost 75, See Her Now Reportingly Undo The government think tank said the agreement should include robust provisions for digital trade, creating a framework for enhanced cross-border service delivery. The Aayog also emphasised that India must advocate for improved visa access for its professionals, particularly under H-1B and L-1 categories. "This should include provisions for intra-corporate transferees and independent service providers, which are crucial for maintaining India's competitive edge in the global services industry," it said. Live Events With growing global demand for Digitally Delivered Services (DDS), the Aayog said India should seek firm market access commitments from the US in high-growth areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, telecom, and design services. "Leveraging India's strengths in these sectors can help increase bilateral trade and innovation-led growth," it said. Observing that regulatory barriers such as inconsistent data compliance and intellectual property concerns hinder Indian service exports, the Aayog said joint efforts between India and the US are needed to simplify licensing procedures and address cross-border data flow issues, enabling smoother market access for Indian firms. The government think tank also said that to expand professional opportunities, India should push for broader Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) that cover a wider range of professions, including engineers, architects, and healthcare workers. "These agreements would streamline certification processes and facilitate the mobility of Indian professionals to the US," it said. According to the Aayog, India should focus on diversifying its trade partners and becoming integral to larger global supply chains and production networks. "Fast-tracking free trade agreements, time-bound negotiation roadmap, is essential," the Aayog said, adding that these agreements should prioritise the reduction of non-tariff barriers and facilitate smoother trade in services, a key strength for India. Simultaneously, the Aayog said deeper trade engagement with countries such as Australia, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN nations can be highly beneficial, especially in sectors where India's export strengths, such as pharmaceuticals, automobiles, and IT, match their import needs. "Additionally, pivoting towards African markets by developing a structured India-Africa trade corridor focused on pharmaceuticals, education services, IT, and cost-effective machinery will tap into the growing demand and expand India's export footprint into emerging regions," it said. Meanwhile, an Indian commerce ministry team has reached Washington for another round of talks on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA), which will begin on Monday. The visit assumes significance as both sides have to iron out issues in sectors like agriculture and automobiles. It is also important as the US has further postponed the imposition of additional tariffs on several countries, including India, until August 1. Earlier this month, the Indian team was in Washington for talks, with negotiations taking place from June 26 to July 2. The team has once again reached the US for negotiations. India has hardened its position on the US demand for duty concessions on agri and dairy products. New Delhi has, so far, has not given any duty concessions to any of its trading partners in a free trade agreement in the dairy sector. India is seeking the removal of this additional tariff (26 per cent). It is also seeking the easing of tariffs on steel and aluminium (50 per cent) and the auto (25 per cent) sectors. Against these, India has reserved its right under the WTO (World Trade Organization) norms to impose retaliatory duties. US President Donald Trump announced heavy tariffs on a number of countries, including India, on April 2. However, it was soon postponed for 90 days until July 9 and later to August 1. The two countries are looking to conclude talks for the first tranche of the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by fall (September-October) this year. Before that, they are looking for an interim trade pact.

'Inflammatory, Immature': Supreme Court Slams Cartoon For PM Modi-RSS Sketch
New Delhi: The Supreme Court rebuked Indore-based cartoonist Hemant Malviya for an 'inflammatory' cartoon of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party 's ideological mentor, with a link to Lord Shiva in the comments. A bench headed by Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia expressed dismay over the 50-year-old cartoonist's "immaturity" and called his creation an "abuse of freedom of speech and expression". In a sharp observation Monday, the court asked for the cartoon to be deleted. The court then posted the matter - Malviya's anticipatory bail plea - for futher hearing tomorrow, refusing, as it did, a plea for interim protection against arrest. The court told Advocate Vrinda Grover, appearing for Malviya, nothing would happen in a 24-hour period. Earlier, Grover told court Malviya posted only the cartoon and that the comments - on a social media platform on which the image had been shared - had been added by another individual. "It was from 2021 (during the Covid pandemic)... about some comments that some vaccines are 'safe as water'. There was a lot of confusion and misinformation then about vaccines." She also pointed out no law-and-order problems had emerged because of the cartoon. "The cartoon made headlines someone else because things live on social media forever," she said. The cartoonist had not, in the creation of the artwork or since, shown any malafide intentions, she argued, stressing Malviya is ready to delete the post and offer an apology. Meanwhile, Justice Dhulia asked Additional Solicitor-General KM Nataraj, appearing for the State, if an apology would suffice. "They are saying it is offensive but not an offence..." To this the ASG responded that if it the cartoon had been admitted to be 'offensive' then it had to be an offence. "This is causing social disharmony and a breakdown of law-and-order... all over the country such things are happening and they are 'triggering'," he said. Malviya approached the Supreme Court after the Madhya Pradesh High Court refused anticipatory bail. This was after police filed a case for posting 'objectionable content'. Dismissing the anticipatory bail plea, Justice Subodh Abhyankar had said, "The applicant ought to have used his discretion while drawing the aforesaid caricature... he clearly overstepped the threshold of freedom of speech and expression and doesn't appear to know his limits." Malviya faces charges of promoting communal disharmony, outraging religious feelings, provoking breach of peace, and others under the Information Technology Act. The offences are punishable by jail terms of between three and five years.
