ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Emirate of Abu Dhabi will host the '2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships,' cementing its reputation as a premier global destination for multisport and endurance events.Abdulraheem Hassan Al Zarooni, Corporate Communications Office Director at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), and Jamie Dean Executive Director – Sports at Modon, received the championship flag from this year's host, the Spanish city of Pontevedra, during the tournament's closing ceremony. The handover marked the official announcement of Abu Dhabi as the host city of the upcoming edition in November next year.In a press release on Wednesday, Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Events Sector at ADSC, emphasised that winning the bid to host this prestigious global sports event reflects the growing international confidence in the UAE capital's capabilities to organise world-class events to the highest global standards.Hashmi said that the '2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships' is a significant addition to Abu Dhabi's sporting calendar that contributes to building a lasting sports legacy for the emirate. The event offers an opportunity to foster a culture of community and competitive sports while delivering a comprehensive experience that combines professionalism with cutting-edge infrastructure.He added: 'ADSC remains committed to realising the wise UAE leadership's vision of positioning the capital as a global hub for sports and sustainable development while strengthening community participation and providing an inspiring sporting environment that offers equal opportunities for excellence to all.'Commenting on the event, Deepak Jain, CEO of Modon Communities, said: 'We are excited about the flag handover from Pontevedra to Abu Dhabi that starts the countdown on our journey towards the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships, and look forward to welcoming participants and visitors from across the globe to Hudayriyat Island next year.'In line with our commitment to developing unique leisure and sports offerings, we will work together with our partners and stakeholders, including ADSC, WORLDSPORT and UAE Triathlon, to deliver an unforgettable experience for athletes and fans alike.'Set to run from November 13-22, 2026, the landmark global sports event is coming to Hudayriyat Island, Abu Dhabi's ultimate multisport destination developed by Modon, for the first time. The championships are poised to attract more than 3,000 triathletes from around the world, who will compete across six disciplines – Duathlon, Cross Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Aquathlon, Long-Distance Triathlon and Aquabike.Hudayriyat Island is home to a wide range of sports facilities and infrastructure catering to athletes of all levels of ability. The destination's world-class scenic running tracks, competition-tested road and cross-country cycling trails, mild fall weather and comfortable swimming conditions with ideal water temperatures make it ideally positioned to host all six disciplines of the 2026 World Triathlon Multisport Championships.
On the sidelines, the event will feature a rich programme of activities for participants and spectators, including festival villages and cultural showcases. More than 80 per cent of attendees are expected to come from abroad, boosting Abu Dhabi's hospitality and tourism sector. Visitor numbers are projected to exceed 8,000, generating more than 30,000 hotel room nights and more than $10million in revenue.

The event aimed to build a shared youth vision, discuss opportunities and resources to empower young research leaders, strengthen their societal role, and contribute effectively to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop was held in the conference hall at TRENDS' headquarters in Abu workshop brought together members of the TRENDS Youth Council, members of its Advisory Council, as well as several experts, academics, and focused on the characteristics of successful leadership personalities, ways to enhance youth empowerment in scientific research, and the development of innovative training programs to equip them with modern research tools. Such opportunities have helped refine their leadership skills, nurture creative thinking, and enhance their ability to make accurate and bold decisions. Members of the TRENDS Youth Council stated that the workshop was part of TRENDS' ongoing efforts to support and empower youth, and to promote their active participation in research and community engagement. Discussions highlighted ways to develop leadership skills among young people and their vital role in achieving the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop also reviewed key qualities of successful young leaders-creativity, flexibility, curiosity, courage, critical analysis, and decision-making stressing the importance of cultural openness, knowledge exchange, and active participation in regional and international youth forums. Leveraging AI Members of the TRENDS Youth Council said that the workshop also addressed methods to design specialised training programs to enable young researchers to master innovative scientific research tools and methodologies. This included the use of artificial intelligence, modern technologies, and data analysis, as well as proposing scientific solutions to contemporary global issues and societal and environmental underscored the importance of raising youth awareness of the SDGs and their pivotal role in achieving them through research initiatives, volunteer work, constructive dialogue, and the exchange of scientific and practical expertise among youth from around the world. Such efforts aim to advance development and tackle shared global challenges. A Sustainable Forward-Looking Vision Members of the Advisory Council to the TRENDS Youth Council noted that the interactive workshop reaffirmed TRENDS' commitment to its mission and sustainable, forward-looking vision of building youth capacity, empowering them academically and intellectually, and preparing a generation of researchers capable of leading development efforts in the stressed that youth empowerment is at the core of TRENDS' priorities and global research strategy, reflecting the belief that young people are the foundation of the future, the drivers of development, and the builders of tomorrow. 12 Aug 2025 12:35 DUBAI (ALETIHAD)Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, announced on Tuesday its key achievements for the first half of 2025. The results reflect the chamber's continued efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Dubai's business environment and contribute to the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).The chamber welcomed 35,532 new member companies during the first six months of 2025, marking a 4% year-over-year (YoY) growth. This steady increase reflects the continuing attractiveness of Dubai's business environment among the global business community and the sustained inflow of foreign direct value of members' exports and re-exports reached Dh 171.9 billion during H1 2025, representing an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. The chamber also issued 409,083 Certificates of Origin, up 10% from H1 2024, and issued and received 2,961 ATA Carnets for goods valued at around Dh 1.94 Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Dubai Chambers, commented: 'Guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the emirate continues to strengthen its position as a leading global centre for trade and investment. Dubai's integrated business ecosystem plays a pivotal role in reinforcing investor confidence in the positive outlook of the national economy.'Al Mansoori added: 'We are committed to empowering the local business community by shaping a regulatory and legislative environment that fosters growth, creates opportunities, and supports the development of priority sectors. The chamber will continue to strengthen its efforts to enhance public-private partnerships, which form a key pillar in achieving the goals of the D33 Agenda.' Supporting Global Expansion The chamber successfully supported the expansion of 60 local companies into new global markets during H1 2025, achieving 76% growth compared to 34 companies supported during the same period in part of its 'New Horizons' initiative, which enables Dubai-based companies to join targeted trade missions and explore opportunities in global markets, the chamber organised two missions to Southeast Asia and Africa. Encompassing visits to Thailand, the Philippines, Angola, and Mozambique, these resulted in 1,076 B2B meetings between Dubai companies and their counterparts in the four markets. Strengthening the Legislative Ecosystem During H1 2025, the chamber reviewed 27 laws and draft laws in collaboration with Business Groups. The private sector's recommendations achieved a 60% adoption rate, up from 46% in H1 2024. It also arranged 98 meetings with Business Groups and Business Councils, representing YoY growth of 104%.In addition, the chamber established five new Business Councils during the first half of the year, representing the interests of investors from Brazil, Slovakia, Peru, Indonesia, and part of its ongoing efforts to raise legal awareness, the chamber organised 19 legal events attended by 1,414 participants from the business community. These included a series of seminars and workshops highlighting the latest developments in the legislative chamber received a total of 94 mediation cases during the first half of the year, representing YoY growth of 19%. The combined value of these cases exceeded Dh 213.5 million. Dubai Centre for Family Businesses The Dubai Centre for Family Businesses, which operates under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, continued its mission to ensure the sustainability and growth of family enterprises. In partnership with Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, the centre released 'Family Businesses in the Emirate of Dubai: A Guidebook,' an informative guide outlining best practices for preserving family wealth and ensuring long-term continuity and centre hosted two events as part of its 'Governance Series.' The first showcased an international case study on intergenerational business continuity, while the second explored strategies for building a lasting legacy for family businesses. As part of the centre's Next-Gen Training Programme, a workshop was held to enhance the skills of the next generation of family business leaders in generative AI prompt engineering. The centre also conducted a media training session for family business representatives to strengthen their public presence and reinforce their reputations, supporting efforts to highlight the legacy and achievements of family businesses in Dubai.
