Hazy, hot, and more humid weather this week, Storms return by the weekend
Tonight, the surface high pressure will sit over us making for a mostly clear night. Smoke from the Canadian Wildfires will continue to impact the upper levels of the air above Alabama. This will make for another pretty sunset. It will be cool and comfortable with low humidity. Lows will range from the lower to middle 60s.
The high pressure will move east of Alabama on Tuesday. This will make it more humid with a mostly sunny sky. It will be warmer with high temperatures in the upper 80s. The heat index will be in the lower 90s.
Warm and more humid weather is expected on Wednesday and Thursday as the high pressure sits off the East Coast and pumps in tropical air over Alabama. Each day will be partly cloudy with a low chance of a pop-up shower or storm. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s, and the heat index will be in the lower to middle 90s.
A cold front will move toward Alabama on Friday, accompanied by an upper-level wave. This will set off scattered showers and storms. It will be hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s and the heat index in the 90s before it storms.
Weekend Outlook: The front will stall north of Alabama in Tennessee this weekend. A train of upper-level waves will move along the front each day. This system is close enough to trigger scattered showers and storms on Saturday and Sunday, accompanied by downpours and frequent lightning. High temperatures will be in the middle to upper 80s.
Additionally, Saharan Dust will move over to the Southeast U.S. this weekend. This will cause the sky to appear a milky color and makes for beautiful sunrises/sunsets each day. This phenomenon is very common and happens every year from June through August. High pressure over the Mediterranean Sea causes the winds to move east to west across the Saharan Desert. The dusty sand gets sent aloft and travels across the Atlantic to the U.S.

Nearly 300 employees out of work after Johnsonville closes packing plant in far south suburbs
MOMENCE, Ill. — A packing plant in the far south suburbs has closed, putting nearly 300 employees out of work. The Momence Packing Company, located at 334 North Street in Momence, was shuttered as of Monday, a spokesperson for Johnsonville, the Wisconsin-based sausage manufacturer, has confirmed. Ground beef sold nationwide possibly contaminated with E. coli The Momence facility was built in 1962 and began producing Johnsonville products in 1995. According to Johnsonville, the closing impacts 274 employees, who were notified Monday and will receive continued pay and benefits for 60 days. 'We made the difficult decision after evaluating how best to optimize our operations network to address current and future growth,' the spokesperson said in a statement. 'The work from this facility will transition to three other production facilities in Wisconsin and Kansas.' The company also says about 100 new jobs will be created between two of its Wisconsin plants by the third quarter of this year, 20 to 25 new jobs in Sheboygan Falls and 70 to 75 new jobs in Watertown. (WSYR-TV) — The city of Syracuse is set to host two technical assistance webinars involving a tutorial on 'Look Before You Rent,' which is an online tool to help you become more educated on rental properties in Syracuse. This online map includes all the information you need about rentals. Including how to search by address or neighborhood to discover a property's status on the City's Rental Registry, Certificate of Compliance programs and any code violations or other property information. The webinars are scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. and Wednesday, June 11, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Staff members will show attendees how to access and use the tool.
