Thrash metal band Megadeth uses artificial intelligence to say goodbye as it announces it's 17th album and farewell tour
In a video posted to Instagram, an AI generated video shows various cities on fire, volcanoes erupting and AI generated news anchors proclaiming the end times, before their mascot, Vic Rattlehead confirmed that the band was splitting up.
The band, which was founded in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustine, has toured Australia in 2025 and 2023.
In the video, Vic Rattlehead said 'For over four decades, I've been chained in silence, but the end demands my voice.
'It's been confirmed; the next Megadeth studio album will be the last.'
A statement that was published on the band's website from founding member Dave Mustaine said, 'It's our last studio album. We've made a lot of friends over the years, and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour.'
Many of the comments that appeared on the Instagram video were supportive of the band, with many saying that they were sad to see the thrash metal band split up.
'Megadeth, you will always live on in our hearts. Thank you for everything Dave Mustaine,' one said.
Another wrote, 'Make it a blast! One of the only bands I own all the albums to.'
A third commented, 'It hurts my heart to see THE metal band that has got me into metal leave.'
But some commented that they were critical of the band's decision to use artificial intelligence to create the apocalyptic hell scape that was used in the video to promote the new album.
'MEGADETH YOUR SUPPOSED TO DESTROY AI NOT JOIN THEM' one said in all capitals.
Another said, 'Megadeth using ai,' whilst another said 'Hope AI won't be used for the actual music videos and album art. So disappointed'
In a lengthy statement that was posted to the band's website, Mustaine expressed that he was grateful to the band's fans over the years for their loyalty.
'Don't be mad, don't be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years, he said.'
He went on to talk about Megadeath's legacy and the influence it has had on music.
'We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it's played, and we changed the world,' Mustaine said.
'The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.'

Nat Barr's advice for parents set to become empty nesters
It's taken almost two years for Sunrise host Natalie Barr and her husband Andrew to fully accept the reality of being empty nesters. 'It had never occurred to me what my life would be like when they walked out,' the mother of two told The Sunday Times. While the silence of a quiet home can be deafening, Barr has been open in sharing her experiences with those entering the next phase of parenting. Unfortunately, she admitted, there isn't too much she can say to fill the void. 'I've talked to quite a few women and some men who sort of stood back and said, 'Gee, I wasn't prepared for this. It's not something I thought about the moment they left home',' she said. 'I don't actually know how you prepare yourself, because you do spend quite a bit of time being immersed in that whole family dynamic where often you wish you'd have more time for yourself, and then all of a sudden you've got all this time to yourself. 'So be careful what you wish for.' Sunrise presenter Nat Barr has opened up on her recent skin cancer diagnosis, revealing the news was 'a huge wake-up call'. Credit: Instagram Grateful her two sons return home regularly, with her eldest based interstate, Barr said she's been forced to reflect on all the shared memories from their childhood. However, the 57-year-old insists it's not healthy to dwell for too long, 'because my life moves on, doesn't it?' Discovering time stretches further when there are less distractions at home, she and her husband have set their sights on more travel abroad. Squeezing a recent getaway to Europe into their schedules, the couple were worried their two-week intercontinental dash would not bring the desired refresh. But it proved more than enough. 'Two weeks away when you haven't got little kids feels like a lot longer,' Barr admitted. 'We had a great trip actually,' she added, somewhat guiltily. 'We hadn't been away without the kids on a really sort of fancy trip like that for years.' Shifting gears between cocktails by the pool, and treading the cobblestones of historic cities, the increasingly frequent flyer even found a weekend this winter to return home to WA. And this time, as an grown up kid herself, the Bunbury luminary leaned into her other mother-child dynamic. As a tourism ambassador for our State, Barr was only too happy to sing WA's praises to her East Coast fans as she and her mum enjoyed long winery lunches, and soaked in the fresh air of Margaret River's coastline. 'That was a really beautiful experience, actually, just spending time together, but also going to places that someone else had given us on an itinerary, and quite a few of them even we hadn't been to,' she said. While she's spent decades away from WA since her early years as a journalist, the popular personality continues to annually visit her family's holiday house in Dunsborough that's been in their possession since the '70s. Just like each stage of life, the Telethon regular believes morning TV forces her to be open to a deviation from the script. Her favourite moment of each workday is the minutes before showtime that she and co-presenter Matt Shirvington ponder what might happen in the ensuing four hours, aware they could lose control at any time. 'Sometimes we'll go by the schedule, but we have no idea,' Barr admitted. 'That's still the thrill of going live across Australia and having no idea what's going to happen next.'

Dannii is back on TV! Singer spotted filming in Aus
More than three decades after she departed Home and Away's golden shores, Dannii Minogue is set to make her acting comeback in a bitter family drama also starring Neighbours icon Jackie Woodburne. The new TV series, titled Imposter, is being produced for the UK's Channel 5 and shot in Australia. Spotted filming in Melbourne, Minogue, 53, cut a radiant figure as she donned a white summer dress matched with blue and tan heels, and a sky blue coat. In shots from filming, Minogue cosies up to co-star Harrison Popple, an emerging Perth-born talent whose best known credit to date is Australian children's drama Itch, filmed in Perth and Albany from 2019-2020. Woodburne, 69, looked a far cry from her beloved Susan Kennedy character on the soap, seen sporting a grey coat and dusty silver hair. Imposter has been described as a Succession-like family feud with a fight for money at its core. Its Aussie cast also features familiar faces Don Hany and Jane Harber, both of whom starred in popular drama Offspring. Harber is also known for Upper Middle Bogan. UK actress and singer Kym Marsh, who became a show favourite on Coronation Street, is also set to star. An Australian broadcaster is yet to be announced but it is set to screen in the UK in 2026.
