Health dept issues advisory in wake of heavy rain forecast
The Director of Public Health Dr B Ravinder Nayak said that as IMD-Hyderabad has issued warning alert of heavy rainfall for next seven days across Telangana with lower temperature and higher humidity, which may lead to seasonal illnesses, especially vector, water and air borne diseases. To guard against these, the DPH has issued a few tips to stay healthy during this season battling the mosquito menace to fight Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya.
The officials have advised citizens to follow instructions like doors and windows are to be secured with mosquito nets / screens, beds and cribs are to be covered with mosquito nets, use Mosquito repellents as precaution, maintain domestic drains to prevent water stagnation, domestic septic tanks should be covered with a mesh to prevent mosquito breeding, observance of 'Friday- Dry Day' every week to get rid of stagnant water around your house. Prevent Water borne infections- Acute Gastroenteritis, Jaundice and Typhoid, drink filtered / boiled water, wash hands, especially before and after meals, avoid eating outside stale food Guard against Airborne infections, viral fevers and influenza.
The officials have advised people to avoid shaking hands, with someone who is sick, or when they are sick, use hand sanitizers often to avoid being infected, use hand -kerchief when you sneeze or cough, if any person develops flu like symptoms including cough with fever, headache, sore throat and associated body pains, please go to nearby Government Health facilities.

Ludhiana: Dengue larvae found in 25 nurseries during health dept check
Dengue larvae have been detected in 25 nurseries in Ludhiana during a special inspection drive carried out by the district health department on Friday. The drive was part of the Punjab Government's ongoing weekly campaign 'Har Shukarvaar Dengue te Vaar' aimed at curbing the spread of dengue. (HT Photo) During this, health officials inspected a total of 172 nurseries across various parts of the city, identifying potential mosquito breeding grounds. Assistant civil surgeon Dr Vivek Kataria inspected several nurseries, where larvae were found in stagnant water, especially in trays beneath plant pots and other water containers. 'Such negligence creates ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed and can lead to serious dengue outbreaks,' he added. The health department issued on-the-spot instructions to nursery owners, asking them to avoid water accumulation in pots and trays and to ensure regular weekly checks. Written notices were served to the nurseries where larvae were found, warning that repeat violations would invite legal action under the Epidemic Diseases Act. Officials also appealed to all residents to check their rooftops, flower pots, water coolers, containers, and surrounding areas every Friday. The department stressed that only through regular cleanliness and public cooperation can dengue be effectively prevented. Civil surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur said that under this weekly campaign, inspections are carried out every Friday to identify and eliminate potential dengue breeding sites. 'Dengue can only be eliminated from its roots not just through the efforts of the health department, but with the active support of the public,' she said.

The pushback comes amid a growing outbreak of Chikungunya virus, a mosquito-borne disease that recently emerged in Foshan, about 260 km from Zhanjiang, in Guangdong. So far, over 8,000 cases have been reported. Local governments, under orders from Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong on August 4 launched a campaign reminiscent of China's strict zero-Covid era. Surveillance is back. Pharmacies must now report sales of fever medicines. Mosquito breeding grounds are being cleared. Citizens are being asked to monitor still water and step up personal mosquito protection. Chinese media reported that the children were targeted after the pharmacy flagged the son's symptoms and a local official said that attempts had been made to reach the mother. But public reaction has been fierce. 'This isn't disease control. This is a violation of basic rights. If this can happen to children while their parent is working, who is safe?' one user wrote on Weibo. While Chikungunya is rarely fatal with symptoms like fever, joint pain, and nausea, it poses risks to youngsters, the elderly, and those with underlying conditions. The virus cannot be transmitted between people but is spread only through mosquito bites. Still, this outbreak is China's first large-scale encounter with the virus, which has long been endemic in parts of Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Authorities have stressed on the need for quick action, but public trust is still fragile after three years of pandemic control and is proving harder to manage.
