Kuantan police issue 194 summonses, seize 24 bikes in road ops
The operation, dubbed Op Samseng Jalanan, was carried out from 4 pm to 11 pm following public complaints about illegal racing and dangerous stunts.
Acting Kuantan police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said 65 individuals aged 15 to 25 were penalised for various traffic violations.
Among them, an 18-year-old motorcyclist was arrested for performing a dangerous wheelie stunt on a public road.
'Such actions endanger not only the rider but also other road users,' Mohd Adli said.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries severe penalties, including jail time and hefty fines.
Reckless riding under this law can result in up to five years in prison, fines ranging from RM5,000 to RM15,000, or a driving licence suspension. Authorities urged youths to avoid using public roads for illegal racing or stunts. - Bernama

GOF seizes 75 tonnes of crude palm oil, nabs three in Taiping
IPOH: Crude palm oil, vehicles and equipment worth almost RM1mil have been seized during a police operation in Taiping. General Operations Force (GOF) Northern Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Shahrum Hashim said the seizure included 75,400kg of crude palm oil, two tanker lorries, one bonded lorry, equipment used for transferring the oil, and three mobile phones. SAC Shahrum said three men were also arrested during the operation between 3pm and 6pm on Wednesday (July 16). "Our team detected a suspicious lorry believed to be involved in palm oil misappropriation in the Taiping area. "We trailed the lorry until it stopped by the roadside on Jalan Taiping-Bagan Serai," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 17). "The suspects were caught in the act of transferring crude palm oil from two tanker lorries into a bonded lorry. "Upon inspection, we found 10 blue barrels, each with a 200-litre capacity, inside the bonded lorry, along with several pieces of equipment used to transfer the crude palm oil," he added. The total value of the seizures was estimated at RM975,200. SAC Shahrum also said that the Taiping police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division had issued two summonses to the suspects under the Road Transport Act 1987. "The suspects and the seized items have been handed over to the Northern Region Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for further investigation. "The case is being investigated under Regulation 5 of the MPOB (Licensing) Regulations," he said. "The public is urged to act as the authorities' eyes and ears by reporting any illegal activities," he added.

Teen girl dies days after crash that claimed mother's life
KULIM: A teenage girl who sustained serious injuries in an accident that claimed her mother's life on Monday has died. Nurul Suhada Balqis Mohd Azizudin, 15, succumbed to her injuries yesterday at 6.20pm while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Kulim Hospital. Kulim police chief, Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan, said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. In the 4.40pm incident near the Padang Limau junction along the Kulim–Mahang trunk road, the girl was riding pillion on a motorcycle with her mother, Suhana Hamid, 39, when they were involved in a collision with a Perodua Myvi. The media reported that Suhana, a housewife, died on the spot from severe injuries, while her daughter was rushed to Kulim Hospital in critical condition.

Man, Thai girlfriend freed of drug trafficking charge
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today acquitted and discharged a couple on two counts of drug trafficking, involving 1,208.7g (1.2kg) four years ago. Judge K. Muniandy ordered the couple, Tan Kah Soon, 49, and his Thai girlfriend, Pattarathida Petcharanon, 39, to be freed after finding that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against them at the end of the prosecution's case. "There were significant weaknesses in the prosecution's case, including issues related to the chain of custody of the evidence and the unexplained time gap between the discovery of the material and its delivery to the laboratory for analysis. "The scientific evidence presented raised reasonable doubts about the identity and authenticity of the dangerous substance and its direct link to the two accused. "Accordingly, both accused are acquitted and discharged of the charges made against them without being called to defend themselves," said the judge. The couple was jointly charged with trafficking the drugs, namely 647.1g of methamphetamine and 561.6g of ketamine, at a condominium in Taman Desa Petaling, Cheras, at 10.50pm on Nov 9, 2021. They were charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and if not sentenced to death, a maximum of 15 strokes of the cane, if convicted. The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Zaileen Nadia Zubir, while both accused were represented by lawyer Sivahnanthan Ragava. – Bernama
