FBS Analyzes Cryptocurrency Market Trends in H1 2025 and Outlines Key Drivers for H2

FBS, a leading global broker, shares its expert review of the first half of 2025 in the cryptocurrency market and outlines key scenarios shaping the months ahead.
Bitcoin led the market in H1, showing solid resilience and setting new highs despite global uncertainty. Supported by a more favorable macroeconomic environment with stabilizing inflation, a pause in US rate hikes, and a weaker dollar, BTC once again confirmed its position as the leading force in the crypto market.
Earlier in 2025, Bitcoin briefly fell to $76 300 before making a strong comeback in Q2 and reaching a new all-time high. This recovery reinforced BTC's dominance, especially among institutional investors, and left many altcoins struggling to catch up.
'Bitcoin has once again proven to be the core asset in the crypto market,' say FBS analysts. 'But the real question is whether we're nearing the end of this bull cycle — or if the market still has room to run.'
Altcoins fall behind
While Bitcoin surged, most altcoins, including ETH, SOL, and XRP, remained under pressure. The long-awaited 'altseason' didn't take off in the first half of the year, as most liquidity remained concentrated in Bitcoin. Weak speculative interest and a lack of strong fundamentals limited altcoin recovery, leaving many assets below their year-to-date performance.
Some, like XRP, showed relative stability due to strong communities and partnerships. But overall, altcoins underperformed, raising doubts about whether they'll see a meaningful upside before the current cycle peaks.
Macro picture: the key to what comes next
In the second half of 2025, market attention shifts to key macroeconomic signals. According to FBS, three forces will likely shape crypto's direction:
The US Federal Reserve: If the Fed starts cutting rates, risk assets could gain new momentum. But if the pause continues or policy shifts back toward tightening, pressure on crypto may return.
The US Dollar Index (DXY): Bitcoin has historically moved in the opposite direction to the dollar. A stronger DXY could weigh on crypto sentiment.
Stock market performance: Correlations between major indices and crypto remain strong. Weakness in tech stocks could spill over into digital assets.
Tracking the Post-Halving Market Trajectory
Looking at past market cycles, FBS analysts highlight that bull markets tend to peak 200–500 days after a Bitcoin halving. The last halving occurred in April 2024, putting a potential cycle top around Q4 2025 to Q1 2026. Technical indicators like the Money Flow Index (MFI) also suggest FBS may still be in the active phase of the bull run.
That said, the market now enters a decisive phase. Continued growth may drive renewed capital into altcoins, sparking delayed upside. On the other hand, signs of exhaustion or macro headwinds could mark the start of a longer correction.
'The next few months will define this cycle,' the report concludes. 'Whether it's the beginning of the end or just another phase of growth — traders need to stay alert.'

Stock market today: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq futures climb as Trump downplays Powell tensions

US stock futures climbed after President Trump visited the Federal Reserve and Wall Street digested the latest batch of corporate earnings. Futures attached to the Dow Jones Industrial Average (YM=F), the benchmark S&P 500 (ES=F), and the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 (NQ=F) fluttered up 0.2%. Trump visited the Fed on Thursday afternoon to take a tour of its $2.5 billion renovation project, led by chair Jerome Powell. The president has spent weeks criticizing the project as too expensive, sparking speculation he might use it as a pretext to try to fire Powell for alleged mismanagement. During the tour, however, Trump indicated he wasn't considering firing the Fed chair. "To do that is a big move, and I just don't think it's necessary," he said. The president also downplayed his disagreements with Powell over interest rates, saying he believes the chair will "do the right thing." "I'd love him to lower interest rates," the president reiterated. Intel reported its earnings after the bell Thursday, beating Wall Street expectations on revenue. The company's stock turned negative, however, as CEO Lip-Bu Tan discussed layoffs and the cancelation of some factory plans. In day trading, the S&P 500 scored its fourth consecutive record high in a row as Google (GOOG) earnings boosted optimism about the promises of AI. Wall Street also continued to hope that the Trump administration will strike more trade deals before the president's Aug. 1 deadline, even as the risk of higher-than-expected baseline tariffs grows. U.S. Stock Futures Edge Up as S&P 500 and Nasdaq Continue Record Run

U.S. stock futures were slightly higher on Thursday evening, following yet another day where both the S&P 500 Index (SPX) and the Nasdaq Composite closed at record highs. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 were up 0.07%, 0.11%, and 0.10%, respectively, at 7:36 p.m. EDT on July 24. Stocks kept climbing Thursday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting new all-time highs during the day and at the close. This brings the S&P 500's total record closes for 2025 to thirteen, four this week alone. The Nasdaq also set three records this week, topping 21,000 on Wednesday. However, the Dow Jones witnessed a slight dip of 0.7%. The recent surge to new highs has been bolstered by a robust earnings season and recent developments in international trade. Earlier this week, President Trump announced a 'massive' trade deal with Japan, which notably includes 15% 'reciprocal' tariffs. In a notable event on Thursday evening, President Trump publicly clashed with Fed Chair Powell over renovation costs during a visit to the Federal Reserve. During the discussion, President Trump gave a renovation cost that Fed Chair Powell publicly said was wrong. However, after Powell's correction, President Trump softened his stance on the Fed chief, reassuring markets by stating he had no plans to fire him.

Bitcoin Whale Bets $23.7M on BTC Rally to $200K by Year-End

Bitcoin's (BTC) price rally may have stalled lately, but bullish conviction certainly hasn't, as whales continue to bet millions on an extended market rally. Recently, one such whale executed a significant bullish options play targeting $200,000 by the year's end. The strategy involved the simultaneous purchase of 3,500 contracts of the Deribit-listed $140,000 December call option and the short sale (or writing) of 3,500 contracts of the $200,000 December call option. This complex trade, a bull call spread, resulted in an initial net debit of $23.7 million. As Deribit Insights noted, "The Dec $140K-$200K Call spread dominates, buying low Dec $140K IV, funded by higher IV $200K Calls." The strategy will achieve maximum profit if BTC settles at or above the higher strike price, $200,000 in this case, by the expiration date. This strategy generates a net debit because the premium paid for the lower strike call option (the purchase) exceeds the premium received from selling the higher strike call. The spread offers limited gains for a limited risk, capping upside at $200,000 while ensuring the maximum potential loss is contained to the initial debit. Options are derivatives used for speculation or hedging against price movements. A call option gives the purchaser the right, but not the obligation, to buy the underlying asset at a predetermined price on or before a specified future date. A call buyer is implicitly bullish on the market, while a put buyer is bearish. Bitcoin's spot price reached a record high of over $123,000 on July 14 and has since consolidated in a narrow range between $116,000 and $120,000. Record options activity BTC's price rally and growing institutional interest in structured products, which involve volatility selling, have boosted activity in the options market. On Deribit, which accounts for over 80% of the global options activity, the BTC options open interest, or the number of open options contracts, was 372,490 BTC as of writing – just shy of the record high of 377,892 set in June. Meanwhile, open interest in ether options has hit a record high of 2,851,577 ETH, according to data source Amberdata.
