Seahawks' Sam Darnold places 25th in PFF QB rankings
The Seattle Seahawks signed Sam Darnold to a three-year contract worth more than $100 million in free agency to be their new starting quarterback. Darnold enjoyed a career-best year with the Minnesota Vikings last season, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns. Despite that, there's still widespread doubt over his actual abilities.
Pro Football Focus recently ranked all 32 projected starting quarterbacks in the league. Breaking them off into tiers, Darnold placed in Tier 5, "veterans capable of solid play, but could quickly be replaced." Darnold checks in at No. 25 overall, the top-ranked QB in his tier (as if that's some sort of consolation prize).
"The big question for Darnold and the Seahawks is which version of the quarterback shows up in 2025," John Kosko asks. "Will it be the one we saw from 2018 to 2023, when his highest-graded season was just a 66.0 as he struggled with decision-making and offensive consistency? Or will it be the quarterback who earned an 85.8 grade over the first 17 weeks of the 2024 season and helped lead the Vikings to 14 wins? His late-season regression and playoff struggles were concerning, and he'll be working with a less talented supporting cast in Seattle."
As terrific as Darnold was throughout the majority of 2024, critics are asking if it was a one-off performance after he was previously written off as a first-round bust. Darnold's late-season regression was concerning. The Vikings were blown out 31-9 by the Detroit Lions in a division-deciding Week 18 finale, and they followed that up with a 27-9 embarrassment against the NFC West winning Los Angeles Rams on Wild Card Weekend.
Darnold has to earn respect in Seattle before QB ranking pieces view him more favorably.

Broncos' Nik Bonitto has wild response to PFF snub

The post Broncos' Nik Bonitto has wild response to PFF snub appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Denver Broncos are riding high after snapping their playoff drought in 2024, but linebacker Nik Bonitto is still playing with something to prove. Despite elite production, Bonitto was left off Pro Football Focus' top 10 rankings for interior defensive linemen — and he wasted no time sharing his thoughts on social media. Advertisement Bonitto quote-tweeted PFF's post on X, formerly known as Twitter, firing back with a simple yet cutting reply. '🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 not serious' The timing of Bonitto's post couldn't be sharper. As the 2025 NFL offseason unfolds, the former Oklahoma star is coming off his third season — and by far his most dominant. Bonitto logged 13.5 sacks in 2024, ranking third in the league behind only Trey Hendrickson and Myles Garrett, and earned second-team All-Pro honors while anchoring the Broncos defense. Despite those accomplishments, PFF left the pass rusher off its top 10 rankings — a move many viewed as a snub. While the list technically highlighted interior linemen, the omission stirred debate, especially considering Bonitto's elite 92.6 coverage grade — the highest among all edge defenders. Advertisement The PFF edge rusher rankings for 2025 also placed Bonitto 23rd overall, a placement that feels low given his sack production, versatility, and overall impact on the field. His performance helped lead a defensive turnaround in Denver, as the Broncos ended the 2024 season with a 10-7 record and snapped their postseason drought. While they fell short in the Wild Card round against Buffalo, the team made massive strides under head coach Sean Payton and rookie quarterback Bo Nix. The former Oregon standout showed poise throughout the year, giving fans hope that Denver finally has long-term stability at the position. Bonitto's snub may be frustrating, but it's not unfamiliar. He's continued to rise each year since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. His growth into a defensive leader was on full display last season — both on the field and off. From a pick-six to a youth charity event in Denver, Bonitto's impact extends far beyond just stats. If this offseason proves anything, it's that Bonitto isn't going to quietly accept being overlooked. And come September, the Broncos defense might just let the tape speak louder than any rankings.

Jim Marshall, Iron Man Defensive End for the Vikings, Dies at 87

Jim Marshall, a former Minnesota Viking who started in more consecutive N.F.L. games than any other defensive player, but who may be best remembered for romping 66 yards into the wrong end zone after recovering a fumble during a game in 1964, died on Tuesday in Minneapolis. He was 87. His wife, Susan Landwehr Marshall, confirmed the death, in a hospital. She did not specify the cause but said he had been hospitalized for an extended period. Marshall started every game for the Vikings over the franchise's first 19 seasons, making four Super Bowl appearances as part of Minnesota's formidable defensive line, known as the Purple People Eaters. When he retired after the 1979 season, two weeks before his 42nd birthday, he had started 270 consecutive regular-season games at defensive end. Quarterback Brett Favre broke that N.F.L. record decades later in his waning years with the Vikings, finishing with 297 consecutive starts. Marshall also started in 19 playoff games during a dominant stretch for the Vikings, who won the N.F.C. Central division 10 times in 11 years across the 1960s and '70s. But although Minnesota advanced to four Super Bowls, it lost every one decisively. (The Vikings remain one of a dozen N.F.L. teams that have never won a Super Bowl.) Want all of The Times? The team reported his death came after a lengthy hospital stay. Marshall started in 270 consecutive NFL games. He played one season with the Cleveland Browns and then 19 with Vikings. Among others, Marshall teamed with Alan Page and Carl Eller for a ferocious defense. Those Vikings did everything ... except win a Super Bowl.
