Seahawks' Sam Darnold places 25th in PFF QB rankings

The Seattle Seahawks signed Sam Darnold to a three-year contract worth more than $100 million in free agency to be their new starting quarterback. Darnold enjoyed a career-best year with the Minnesota Vikings last season, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns. Despite that, there's still widespread doubt over his actual abilities. Pro Football Focus recently ranked all 32 projected starting quarterbacks in the league. Breaking them off into tiers, Darnold placed in Tier 5, "veterans capable of solid play, but could quickly be replaced." Darnold checks in at No. 25 overall, the top-ranked QB in his tier (as if that's some sort of consolation prize). "The big question for Darnold and the Seahawks is which version of the quarterback shows up in 2025," John Kosko asks. "Will it be the one we saw from 2018 to 2023, when his highest-graded season was just a 66.0 as he struggled with decision-making and offensive consistency? Or will it be the quarterback who earned an 85.8 grade over the first 17 weeks of the 2024 season and helped lead the Vikings to 14 wins? His late-season regression and playoff struggles were concerning, and he'll be working with a less talented supporting cast in Seattle." Advertisement As terrific as Darnold was throughout the majority of 2024, critics are asking if it was a one-off performance after he was previously written off as a first-round bust. Darnold's late-season regression was concerning. The Vikings were blown out 31-9 by the Detroit Lions in a division-deciding Week 18 finale, and they followed that up with a 27-9 embarrassment against the NFC West winning Los Angeles Rams on Wild Card Weekend. Darnold has to earn respect in Seattle before QB ranking pieces view him more favorably. He tallied a career-best 57 receptions for 946 yards and 10 TDs in 2023. NFL Releases Packers' First Announced Primetime Game For 2025 Season

The NFL will announce its complete schedule for the 2025 season on Wednesday. However, the league has already begun releasing select matchups on Monday, with additional details and leaks starting to surface ahead of the full reveal. On Monday, the league revealed a Saturday doubleheader for Week 16, featuring divisional matchups: the Philadelphia Eagles against the Washington Commanders, and the Green Bay Packers facing the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. With the Packers holding the fifth-toughest strength of schedule in the league, their path to a successful Super Bowl run will be anything but easy, no matter how the games fall. Come November 10, it will be the sixth meeting between the Packers and Eagles since 2019. The two teams faced off twice last year, first in the inaugural regular-season game in South America, where Philadelphia defeated Green Bay 34-29. They would meet again during Wild Card Weekend, with the Eagles securing a 22-10 victory on their way to a Super Bowl title. Advertisement The last time Philadelphia visited Lambeau Field was during the 2020 season, with Green Bay securing a 30-16 victory. The two teams also met at Lambeau the previous year, where the Eagles came out on top, 34-27, in Matt LaFleur's fourth game as the Packers' head coach. Since 2020, Green Bay has played 25 primetime games, the second-most in the league, trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs. It is fair to expect more primetime matchups on the Packers' schedule, with potential opponents including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, and any of their NFC North rivals. Mike McDaniel on the hot seat: 'I'm not entitled to my position'

Mike McDaniel on the hot seat: 'I'm not entitled to my position' Mike McDaniel knows he needs to produce results in 2025 or else it could be his last as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. But that's nothing new, he says. "Every year to me, if you're not feeling heat on the seat, you have the wrong urgency," McDaniel told reporters Monday. "It should be that way every year, because this is not my gift. This is an incredible responsibility that I only sign up for because I think I'm the best person suited for it." McDaniel led the Dolphins to the playoffs in his first two seasons with the team, although both campaigns ended with losses on Wild Card Weekend. His third season ended with an 8-9 record. After a Week 18 loss to the New York Jets, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross opted against any major changes but warned in a statement that "continuity in leadership is not to be confused with an acceptable that status quo is good enough." "I'm not entitled to my position as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins," McDaniel said Monday. "As we work together, [Ross] knows my expectation is to be the best person for the job and that can get convoluted. Was I the best person for the job last year? We lost more than we won; we were 8-9. There is a bunch of variables in that." The list of reasons for the lackluster year for the Dolphins was headlined by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffering head and hip injuries that kept him out of the starting lineup for six games. Miami won just two of those matchups and finished a pair of wins behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos for the final spots in the postseason. Bouncing back with a strong season in 2025 won't be easy, though. Even if the Dolphins get a healthy year from Tagovailoa, the team didn't have much cap space to make additions in free agency and still has more questions than answers about its offensive line, defensive line, and secondary. But McDaniel is taking inspiration from a coach who entered the 2024 season with heat under his seat before leading his team to a Super Bowl victory. "Nick Sirianni, I want to be on that hot seat he was on last year," McDaniel said. "Sirianni was on the hottest seat. If we [were] closer to the season that we were chasing, if we won two more games, does that make me a different coach?"
