Round two of the Algoa Rally Club Championship takes place on Monday at the Aldo Scribante Raceway at the Syrabix APS Motul Rally and has been billed as yet another spectator-friendly event with a mix of dirt and tar sections and some high-speed jumps.
The starting line-up of 24 entries includes some newcomers who will be pitting their skills against many of the seasoned campaigners.
East London brothers Justin and Dane Langheine, who did sweeping and recovery duties in the first round of the championship, will be making their debut in a Toyota Corolla KE70 powered by a 2-litre Toyota Beams motor and should be a force to be reckoned with.
Another new pairing are the team of Belinda Ball, the wife of racing driver Dean Ball, with Tarryn van Rooyen doing navigating duties for her. Making a welcome return to rallying are Gordon Nolan with debutant navigator Timothy Ball.
The winners of the opening round of the championship, Gauteng brothers Nico and Juandre Nienaber, return for round two and will no doubt be pushing their Toyota Etios 1600 to the limit once again after a spectacular performance in round one.
Nick Davidson and Ashley Bezuidenhout will be hoping that their four-wheel drive Toyota Auris S2000's reliability issues are now a thing of the past and will be mixing it up with the four-wheel drive VW Polos of Wade van Zummeren, Jody van Zummeren and Riekus Schmidt as well as the four-wheel drive Subaru Legacy of Des Timm with navigator Thango Tyikwe and the Audi S3 Quattro of Cape Town visitors Paul van Wyk and Matt Kohler.
In the two-wheel drive class there will no doubt be the usual close tussle between the likes of national competitors Neels Vosloo and Rikus Fourie, Ross and Roxanne Bartle, Johan and Juane' Viljoen, Jeandré Marais and Tegan Taljaard, all in VW Polos, and Deon Kretzmann and Jason Schreiber's Toyota Etios and Juan van Rooyen with his daughter Cailyn competing in their new Ford Fiesta for the first time.
The beauty of holding the rally at Scribante is that there are many spectator vantage points where one can see up to four cars competing in various stages at the same time, be it on the racetrack or the surrounding dirt roads.
Entrance to the event for spectators is R50 per vehicle, so everyone is encouraged to load up their friends and families, bring the braai fires and cooler boxes and enjoy the public holiday while enjoying the action.
Upcoming events:

25: British Sports Car display at the EP Veteran Car Club in Conyngham Road
26: Round 2 of Algoa Motorsport Regional Championship at Aldo Scribante Raceway; Dirt Oval Racing at PE Ovaltrack Raceway in Greenbushes

All roads lead to EL Grand Prix Circuit

The Border Motorsport Club is set for a busy weekend of action at the iconic East London Grand Prix Circuit as it hosts round four of its regional main circuit championship on Saturday, followed by a Top End Run on Sunday. The Top End Run will see the cars starting on the short back straight, going through Beacon Bend onto the main straight for a 600m sprint, where a speed gun will be used to ascertain the top speed of the day. The organisers are expecting about 40 cars, which will be competing in three different normally aspirated classes, namely four-cylinders and rotary engines, six-cylinders and then eight/ten/twelve-cylinders. The event has also been opened up to motorcycles, and at the time of going to the press, there was interest shown from a couple of the local two-wheel racers. The event has attracted a wide variety of cars as well as some of the Simola Hillclimb big names and will be led by local heroes Darron and Martin Gudmanz, Wade and Jody van Zummeren in their thunderous Nissan GTRs, along with Gauteng visitor Craig Czank who will be in a Nissan GTR 32, and Gqbergha's Gordon Nicholson in his super smooth Audi R8. A host of East London's local racing drivers joining in on the action are Shaun Gradwell in his BMW E36, Shaun Vallance in a BMW M4, Grant Godfrey, Pramesh Hooka, Devesh Reddy, Viswa Williams and Leeroy Randall in Nissan GTR R35's, Bevan Choudree in a turbocharged VW Polo, Gary Schultz in a Nissan SR20, Johan van der Westhuizen in a BMW V8, Bryce Choudree in a BMW E46 M3, Naveen Reddy in a VW Golf 7R, Laren Odendaal in an Audi RS3, Viswa Williams in a Ferrari 488GTB, Kyle Hart in a Range Rover SVR, Diego Machado in a Mercedes GT53, Jeandre Coetzer in a Nissan 370Z, Buntu Jwaai in an Audi RS5 and Lincoln Randall in a VW Golf. Cape visitors set to thrill at Aldo Scribante Raceway

An exciting change to this weekend's third round of the Algoa Motorsport Club's Regional championship is the addition of the Cape Town-based Kaltron Formula Supercars that are making the trip to Aldo Scribante Raceway. The cars that run a 2-litre Opel Motor were all built by the late Owen Ashley and celebrate their 30th year of existence next year. They will take part in three races, with the first two being for championship points and the third being a fun race where they will be joined by local Supercar racers Peter Schultz and Tom Hugo. A strong field of 20 modified saloons will be in action and sees legendary racer Syd Lippstreu with his immaculate Toyota Celica moving from the Retro Classic class and joining the modified saloons for the first time. The battle up front should once again be between the class B cars of Ian Riddle in his VW SuperPolo and Ian Oberholzer in his Volvo 850 station wagon as well as relative newcomer Elan Buchman in a VW SuperPolo. In the Wide Horizon Advance Training-sponsored Coastal Challenge for historics, classics and retro classics is Brent Watts, who is making a welcome return to circuit racing at Aldo Scribante Raceway in his Nissan Skyline and is set to give the similar Skylines of usual frontrunners Rane Berry and Tom Hugo a run for their money. East London visitor Neil Stephen returns with the only Opel Manta in the country that is racing and joins a whole fleet of classic Ford Escorts, Anglias and Capris as well as a classic VW Beetle with Henry Adams behind the wheel. Included in the mix are the street and fine cars with Barry Buchman in his Mercedes A45S and Ayrton Pilz in a Renault Clio 3 RS. Dylan Grobler returns to action after a short break in the open motorcycle class on his new 600cc Yamaha R6 and will be up against fellow 600cc competitors Ethan Diener, Ruan van Zyl and Ashton Heideman in what promises to be an epic battle on track. Kiera Potgieter is also back after taking a nasty tumble at the last round of the championship during qualifying and joins fellow girl racers Emma Diener and Kirsty Oberholzer in the CBR 150/250 motorcycle class where they will be up against Craig Benn, Dylan Grobler, Ruan van Zyl, Rob de Vos and Anthony Lippstreu Racing is set to start at 10.15am tomorrow and there will be three heats per class including the Ingco 45-Minute race that ends off the day and is set to start at about 4.15pm. Upcoming events: June 7: Main circuit racing at Aldo Scribante Raceway, round 3; Dirt Oval Racing in East London June 8: Speedyquip Bikers Breakfast Charity Run to Thornhill Hotel June 10: Algoa Indoor Karting League racing at Baywest Mall June 14: Motocross Training Day at Rover Motorcycle Club; Slake Enduro at Zwartenbosch Golf Estate in Humansdorp June 15: Youth Day Charity Spinning & Stance at Aldo Scribante Raceway; Top End Run at East London Grand Prix Circuit June 21: EP Off-Road championship round 2 at Innibos Lapa; Regional round 4 of Dirt Oval Racing at PE Oval Track Raceway; Algoa Kart Club round 4 of regional & club championship June 27-28: ROK Karting Nationals at Algoa Kart Club.
