RM8m CBT trial of Vivy Yusof, husband to begin on April 13, 2026
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court today set 15 days of trial next year beginning April 13, for the case involving FashionValet Sdn Bhd founders Datin Vivy Sofinas, known as Vivy and her husband Datuk Fadzarudin Shah Anuar, who are facing charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM8 million in investment funds from Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) and Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB).
Judge Rosli Ahmad set the trial dates for April 13 to 17, May 18 to 22, and June 8 to 12, 2026.
'The trial will run for 15 days, and the court has set the next case mention for Oct 27,' said Rosli.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin requested the court fix the trial dates agreed upon by both the prosecution and defence. Lawyer M. Athimulan is representing the couple.
Wan Shaharuddin told the court that the prosecution will call 26 witnesses to testify.
The accused, both 37, were not present in court today as their attendance had been exempted.
On Dec 5 last year, Vivy and Fadzarudin pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing CBT in their capacity as directors of FashionValet Sdn Bhd. They were accused of misappropriating investment funds entrusted to them by Khazanah and PNB by transferring RM8 million from FashionValet Sdn Bhd's company account to 30 Maple Sdn Bhd without the approval of FashionValet's board of directors.
The offence was allegedly committed at Public Bank Berhad, Bukit Damansara Branch, 36-40 Medan Setia 2, Plaza Damansara, Bukit Damansara, here, on Aug 21, 2018.
The charge, framed under Section 409 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, provides for a minimum sentence of two years and a maximum of 20 years in jail, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
They also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of jointly and dishonestly misusing company property, namely, RM8 million in investment funds from Khazanah and PNB belonging to FashionValet Sdn Bhd under Section 403 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which provides for an imprisonment of between six months and five years, along with caning and a fine upon conviction.

Sabah cops to probe Gempur Rasuah 2.0 Rally
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have opened three investigation papers involving nine offences linked to the Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 gathering held over the weekend here. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun ( pic ) said some of the offences fall under the 3R category (race, religion and royalty), and investigations are being carried out under several laws, primarily the Penal Code and Sedition Act. 'Among the offences were incitement, burning materials in public areas, and bringing hazardous items such as fuel to the gathering. 'These are among the 16 conditions outlined by the Kota Kinabalu district police chief that the organisers were required to comply with,' he said at a press conference on Monday (June 23). Jauteh explained that the conditions were intended to ensure the gathering proceeded without disrupting public order or posing safety risks. 'We are not saying that they definitely violated the conditions, but we are investigating reports of possible legal breaches, not merely the act of assembling itself,' he said. Asked whether the organisers, comprising Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students under the banner Suara Mahasiswa, had misled police when submitting their rally notice, Jauteh said the students had not provided accurate information. 'They claimed it was unusual for police to respond with conditions, but they should have understood, especially with legal counsel present, that our actions were in line with the Peaceful Assembly Act,' he said. He clarified that the police response was not a form of approval, but an acknowledgement of the notice submitted, along with conditions necessary to ensure the safety of the public and participants. 'The organisers submitted the notice five days before the event, and within three days, police replied through the district police chief, Asst Comm Kasim Muda, outlining the 16 conditions. 'The aim was to assist, not to suppress. Our presence during the procession was to prevent any untoward incidents,' he said. Despite the organisers describing the event as peaceful, Jauteh said failure to comply with certain conditions had triggered investigations. 'Although police did not take immediate action at the time, this does not mean no action will follow,' he noted. He stressed that if any actions during the assembly breached the law, police will investigate and submit the findings to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action. Several individuals, including participants, members of the public, and police officers involved in monitoring the event, are currently being called to provide statements. On a separate matter, Jauteh said police are also investigating a report that several students' vehicles were splashed with acid. The case is being probed under Section 500 of the Penal Code. When asked whether other groups were present at the scene, Jauteh confirmed that at least one other group was in the area. 'We are investigating the extent of their involvement, particularly individuals identified by the public as wearing white shirts,' he said. He added that the crowd was scattered, making it difficult to determine the exact number of participants, but the focus remains on Suara Mahasiswa.

RM400 One-Off Aid For 20,000 Pahang Students In Higher Education
BANGI, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Pahang state government has allocated RM8 million to provide a one-off financial aid of RM400 to students from the state who are currently pursuing studies at higher learning institutions across the country. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the initiative, introduced under the Inisiatif Makmur (IM) Pahang 2025 – Student Cluster, is expected to benefit 20,000 eligible students. He said the aid is an enhancement of the Bantuan Prihatin Pahang programme, which has been in place since 2022. 'The state government recognises that students today face not only academic pressures but also financial challenges. This aid, now in its fourth year under the Student Cluster, reflects our continued commitment to easing their burden. 'From 2022 to 2024, a total of RM26.055 million was allocated for the programme, and this year alone, RM8 million has been set aside,' he told reporters after launching the initiative in Bangi here today. Wan Rosdy also personally handed over the aid to about 450 students from Pahang, including those from the Permata@Pintar Negara Centre at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad was also present at the event. Looking ahead, Wan Rosdy said the state government would consider increasing the allocation and aid amount if the financial position allows. 'Insya-Allah, we will raise the allocation in the future if the state's finances remain strong. Indonesian rape suspect who escaped Sibu lock-up recaptured after midnight manhunt
SIBU, June 23 — An Indonesian detainee who escaped from the Sibu Central Police Station lock-up at around 4 pm last Saturday was recaptured early this morning. The 25-year-old suspect was re-arrested at Lorong Terap, approximately 1.4km from the station, at around 12.30 am. 'The suspect was still in handcuffs and wearing the lock-up attire,' Sibu Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said in a statement here. The suspect, who was under remand for investigation under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code for the offence of rape, was still in lawful police custody and was wearing the standard purple lock-up attire and handcuffs when he fled. According to Zulkipli, following the escape incident, investigations are underway under Sections 223 and 224 of the Penal Code, which provide for a prison sentence of up to two years, or a fine, or both. Section 223 applies to officers whose negligence allows a detainee to escape, while Section 224 relates to detainees who flee from lawful custody. Zulkipli expressed gratitude for the public's cooperation in providing information that led to the suspect's recapture, but at the same time advised the public not to speculate in ways that could interfere with the police investigation. — Bernama
