Best hotel in the world for 2025 revealed by Tripadvisor

News.com.au01-05-2025

Tripadvisor just released its 2025 Travellers' Choice Awards, a list of the best hotels in the world that analyses places with a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from their online community. Less than 1 per cent of the platform's 8 million entries earn the status.
Topping the list is the Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya in Akumal, Mexico, a luxurious, all-inclusive stay on the beach of a wild sea turtle sanctuary. In fact, its name means 'place of the turtle'.
The location's infinity pool, spa and restaurants were real standouts to guests who enjoy the 'grand escape full of both relaxation and adventure' on the Caribbean Sea.
The hotel sits on the shores of the Mesoamerican Reef, the world's second-largest, home to several varieties of wild sea turtles.
'Wellness lovers will head for the fitness centre, steam room, and spa, while adventurers gear up for diving and bicycle tours. Plus, the resort's ideal location for snorkelling adds a bucket-list activity to your vacay,' Tripadvisor said.
It's also a short trip away from the Mayan sites of Tulum and Coba.
And you won't see any kiddos running around or splashing you in the pool: Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is an adults-only getaway that opened a decade ago and has become a favourite for couples looking to be pampered.
Each building has its own concierge who guarantees guests enjoy a seamless stay and can indulge in any way they want, whether it be a dinner table overlooking the sunset or a stocked minibar to enjoy the in-suite plunge pool.
Only one American location made the top 10 — the French Quarter Inn in Charleston, South Carolina, landing at No. 8.
It was lauded for its 'nice mix of old-world charm and modern comfort,' as well as amenities including 'cozy' furniture, Italian marble bathrooms, gas fireplaces and balconies.
The 10 best hotels in the world, according to Tripadvisor
1. Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, Mexico
2. Grandvrio Ocean Resort Danang, Vietnam
3. Gokulam Grand Turtle on the Beach, India
4. Romance Istanbul Hotel, Türkiye

Famous US burger chain opens pop-up in Sydney for one day only

A popular American fast-food chain will launch a pop-up store in Sydney today, opening for a one-day-only event. Fans of In-N-Out Burger will have the opportunity to snag some of the chain's most popular menu items at the Coogee Bay Hotel from 9am to 3pm or until sold out on June 11. A spokesperson for Coogee Bay Hotel has told that crowds were already lining up before the opening time. 'The international In'N'Out team have flown out to run the pop-up,' they explained. So Aussies who have tried the American burgers can rest assured they'll be the same ones they know and love. The pop-up will be serving up In-N-Out's famous Double-Double burgers, featuring two beef patties, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, and the brand's signature sauce. Also available will be the Animal Style burger from the chain's 'hidden' menu, which features mustard-cooked beef patties, extra melted cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and an extra dollop of the special sauce. For those wishing to forgo the carbs, the Protein Style burger is also available, replacing the bun with lettuce wraps. 'For those who have not yet experienced In-N-Out Burger, be sure to come and check us out at this special promotional event,' the chain said in an Instagram post on the Coogee Bay Hotel's page. Aussies were thrilled at the news, taking to social media to share their excitement. 'This is so exciting!' said one. 'Yes, please,' another wrote. However, others anticipated that the burgers would sell out before many people had the chance to get their hands on one. 'Let us know if (when) it sells out at 10:30am so we don't waste a drive,' said one. Someone else said so many people will have 'FOMO', so will line up for hours and hours, only to be disappointed. Although there's no permanent outlet in Australia, previous In-N-Out pop-ups have proved popular and sparked calls for the chain to be introduced in the country. In-N-Out is a family-owned and operated burger restaurant, established in California in 1948. It has become renowned for not using any frozen products, meaning that all of its menu items are prepared fresh. The main menu consists of burgers, chips, and milkshakes.

Waterfront views abound in this week's pick of the property market

Nothing beats sitting back and soaking in the relaxed vibes of an ocean or riverfront view. If it's waterfront you're after, this week's property round-up has you covered. 5 Wandella Avenue, Hunters Hill NSW While this architect-designed waterfront home impresses with its scale and presence, it's the small, joyful rituals that define its appeal. 'The vendor, being Italian, loves setting the dining table for 14 in minutes, lighting the fireplace, and creating an atmosphere that feels instantly magical,' the agent says.
