Cathie Wood Bets Big on This Chinese Tech Stock as Trade Tensions Ease
The move comes as U.S.-China trade tensions ease: Washington has slashed tariffs on Chinese goods from 145 percent to 30 percent, while Beijing cut its duties on U.S. imports from 125 percent to 10 percent.

Ark's flagship Innovation ETF (ARKK) has lagged this year, up just 1 percent versus a 1 percent gain for the S&P 500. Over the past 12 months, that fund saw net outflows of $2.0 billion, reflecting lingering skepticism about its aggressive bets.
Baidu shares are roughly flat in recent sessions but have climbed 6 percent year-to-date. Wood's team cites Baidu's push into artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, areas where the company has rolled out its Ernie X1 and Ernie 4.5 AI models, as key catalysts.
Wood, known for backing disruptive themes like robotics and genomics, sees China's market reopening and technology innovation as fertile ground. While some investors question her timing, this latest purchase underscores her conviction that Baidu can leverage easing trade barriers to accelerate its AI and mobility ambitions.

TSX futures steady as investors eye CPI data for clues on BoC rate path
(Reuters) -Futures tied to Canada's main stock index held steady on Tuesday, as investors awaited inflation data that could shape expectations for a potential rate cut by the country's central bank. The futures on the S&P/TSX index were up 0.12% as of 05:33 a.m. ET (0933 GMT), signaling a steady start to the S&P/TSX composite index after it ended marginally higher in the prior session. Economists polled by Reuters expect Canada's consumer price index report, due at 08:30 a.m. ET, to show a moderation in the annual inflation rate to 1.8% last month from 1.9% in June. The anticipated slowdown in inflation could incentivise the Bank of Canada to resume its policy easing cycle. The BoC had kept the benchmark rate on hold at 2.75% since March. Traders' bets, however, support a "hold" verdict at the central bank's September policy meeting, with odds for a cut standing at 31.4%. US stock futures flat ahead of big box retailer results
U.S. stock futures are flat after a listless start to the week as investors stayed sidelined ahead of quarterly results from big box retailers and a conference of global financial leaders later this week. Discount giants Walmart and Target and home improvement company Lowe's are slated to report around midweek. Home Depot is due before the market opens. These earnings can provide a window into how tariffs are affecting companies and consumer spending. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is set to give a speech at the end of the week at the annual Jackson Hole Economic Symposium of global central bankers and finance chiefs. Investors will be looking for hints Powell may be done waiting to see tariff effects before cutting rates again. The CME FedWatch tool that shows the likelihood that the Fed will change rates at each policy meeting based on market trading suggests a nearly 84% chance of the Fed easing rates in September. Before Powell's speech, investors will get a glimpse midweek of the dissents at the last Fed meeting. Fed governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman voted against the central bank's decision to keep rates unchanged between 4.25%-4.50% last month. It was the first time since 1993 that two governors dissented. At 6:10 a.m. ET, futures linked to the blue-chip Dow added 0.03%, while broad S&P 500 futures slipped -0.06% and tech-laden Nasdaq futures fell -0.05%.
