Carson Hocevar Heartbroken But Grateful After Scary Flat Tire Ends Race

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Carson Hocevar's chances of winning the NASCAR Cup Series race on home soil were shattered after the left rear tire of his car went flat in the closing stages, as he battled William Byron for the top spot. The race at Michigan International Speedway saw several twists at the end, including Hocevar's flat tire incident that sent him into the pits when there were just 18 laps to go. Unfortunately, the tire setback meant the 22-year-old finished the race in 29th place. Hocevar admitted that his win was going to be compromised anyway, considering the low fuel situation, and hoped for a yellow flag before the race ended. Speaking to FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass after the race, he said: "It was going to be near impossible to save four laps around this place for how fast we were going. So you kind of knew that but you wanted to save a little bit and the only reason we're saving wasn't to save to make, it was obviously saved just trying to keep our pit stop short because we needed that yellow so if the yellow came out, we needed the best opportunity to be good." MoreWhen asked if he received any tire warning, Hocevar said: "No. Maybe like, a half a lap earlier, I'm obviously really thankful it happened down the back stretch of two because they had a moment in late exit of 2, and I'm like that's not right. And then it sat down. "I've never really had a flat at these high-speed tracks. Then I got that feeling without it hurting or just being a big moment, especially for how good that car was, I'm glad we didn't tear it up." Carson Hocevar on leading the race knowing he was going to have to pit ... and the flat that ended his winning hopes. @NASCARONFOX — Bob Pockrass (@bobpockrass) June 8, 2025 Revealing further details to NASCAR, Hocevar said: "I felt like I screwed us a little bit by going a little early to put us in that fuel number. You lose the race both ways, right? You either run out (or this). But they should probably go to bed a little bit [easier] that somehow, some way we ran something over or something in the universe wanted a left-rear flat." Hocevar has missed out on top finishes this year due to unexpected hurdles, which led him to recall his Truck Series days. He added: "Just like I'm reliving the Truck Series days, but you're doing it in front of a big stage. And then, the difference is like I felt like I was throwing them away. Now, they're getting taken away – I use that term loosely – but just things out of our control. "It's such a double-edged sword, right? There's nothing I could go back and just be like, we could be better in this moment to win the race or not. There's so many moments where we're just like, 'Man, I just wish we had that opportunity to see if we even would have had a fighting shot at the end at these races.' I'd much rather be in these spots and have these things happening than just slow." Denny Hamlin went on to win the FireKeepers Casino 400 Cup Series race, after Byron ran out of fuel when just one and a half laps remained.

Florida football gets commitment from blue-chip ATH Justin Williams in 2026 cycle

Florida football gets commitment from blue-chip ATH Justin Williams in 2026 cycle Florida football added local four-star athlete Justin Williams to its 2026 class on Sunday in the second of two signings for the Gators. The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound prospect out of Gainesville (Florida) Buchholz chose the Orange and Blue over 26 other suitors that included the Kentucky Wildcats, Florida State Seminoles, Ole Miss Rebels and North Carolina Tar Heels. While he is listed as an athlete, his primary position is at wide receiver. Williams' proximity to campus allowed him to make frequent visits with the program and acclimate to Florida's coaching staff. His most recent official visit, however, was a major step toward his commitment. "It was cool to really see, get more in-depth," he told Swamp247. "I've been here plenty of times, but just getting to know the coaches more and building that relationship, it was really fun." Williams also forged a strong relationship with Gators head coach Billy Napier. "He's an amazing person. It's the best, best coach I've ever been around like I can just tell that from, previous visits, and this visit," he noted. "(I) got to meet his wife, super cool family. And as a coach, he has his track record, and I really believe he can get me to where I want to go." Maybe most importantly, matriculating at Florida also allows him to stay close to his family and friends — something Florida State and Kentucky could not quite offer. "My mom could just drive 20 minutes down the road coming to the games," Williams offered. "It's just really cool. I'm going to see all my friends sitting in the stands.' Justin Williams' Recruiting Summary Williams is ranked No. 235 overall and No. 15 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 188 and 27, respectively. 90 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 90?

90 days until the Texans' 2025 season opener: Who has worn No. 90? Who is the G.O.A.T. to wear No. 90 in a Texans' uniform? The Houston Texans are less than 100 days away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we're counting down the days until a victory ensues on the west coast. Texans Wire will each day tell you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and pick the player who ensured the number best during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let's take a look at who has won No. 90 since the inaugural season in 2002. Texans players to wear No. 90 No. 90 currently belongs to Sheldon Rankins, who returned to Houston on a one-year deal after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this offseason. He was Houston's best interior run defender in 2023 for a unit that finished top 15 in run defense en route to a first AFC South division title since 2019. Rankins nearly signed a long-term deal with the Texans following his 7.5 sack season, but the Bengals offered more. Following a lost season in the AFC North, Rankins hopes to be a long-term member of the Texans' success to close out his career, though Tim Settle is currently wearing his No. 98, so No. 90 will have to do for the upcoming campaign. While Rankins wears No. 90, he's only going to be in for a season, therefore eliminating him from being the best player to don the number. That doesn't mean the jersey hasn't been worn by some talentend prospects over the years. DL Sheldon Rankins (present) DE Ali Gaye (2023) DT Taylor Stallworth (2022) DT Ross Blacklock (2020-2021) LB Javedon Clowney (2014-2018) DL Terrell McClain (2012) DE Mario Williams (2006-2011) DL Jason Davis (2005) DL Terrance Martin (2003) DL Shawn Worthen (2002) Best Player: Mario Williams Clowney was one of the league's best run-stoppers during his five seasons in Houston, but Williams did it all. The NC State product quietly rose up draft boards into the No. 1 spot in 2006 and never looked back. Over his six years, Williams racked up 48 sacks, 85 tackles for loss, 10 forced fumbles and nine pass breakups. While the success carried over to Buffalo, resulting in a six-year contract, Williams helped the Texans become a promising team with realistic expectations. He was also the first star defensively on the line before J.J. Watt arrived in 2011.
