MCE Holdings eyes expansion phase amid contract wins

The Star6 hours ago
PETALING JAYA: MCE Holdings Berhad is entering a multi-year growth phase, underpinned by landmark contract wins, strategic global expansion and a diversification into high-value automotive electronics.
Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) Research has initiated coverage with a 'buy' rating and a target price of RM2.40, implying a 66.7% capital upside.
It sees MCE as 'a resilient, scalable proxy to Malaysia's transition towards high-value auto electronics and the global 'China + N' supply chain realignment'.
At the heart of MCE's growth outlook is its breakthrough entry into the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain for Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua).
HLIB Research reported that the company secured contracts to supply high-value infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), raising potential revenue per vehicle to approximately RM3,000, which is 10 times its traditional content value.
The research unit estimated annual revenue from this programme to reach RM39.8mil to RM59.7mil, or up to 38% of turnover for the financial year ended July 2024 (FY24), if Perodua meets its targeted sales volumes.
MCE is also accelerating its international presence, with significant wins in the US market.
Contracts with Nasdaq-listed Dorman Products and Michigan-based JVIS USA will add a combined RM30.3mil in annual revenue at full ramp-up.
HLIB Research noted that these contracts were secured via competitive global tenders, underscoring MCE's 'technical credibility and global competitiveness'.
Beyond automotive, the group is also moving into new verticals.
A joint venture with Hong Kong's Sounding Industries will produce non-automotive products with minimal capital expenditure, while a partnership with China's Nanjing Chuhang Technology will position MCE in the fast-growing mmWave radar segment for ADAS.
In addition, HLIB Research reported that financially, MCE has turned around its pre-FY22 losses, supported by Proton Holdings Bhd's sales recovery and deeper supply ties with Perodua.
Core earnings are forecast to grow at a 15.8% compounded annual growth rate between FY25 and FY27, reaching RM27mil by FY27, with full-year contributions from EV, export and non-automotive contracts.
The group's balance sheet remains strong, with net cash of RM83.6mil, or about 42% of market capitalisation.

Ex-accountant for early childhood education company faces money laundering charges

SHAH ALAM: A former accountant of an early childhood education company Little Caliphs International Sdn Bhd was charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Tuesday (Aug 12) with six counts of money laundering involving RM216,478. Rafidah Basar, 29, pleaded not guilty before Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir. On the first charge, she is accused of transferring RM162,000 in illegal proceeds from her CIMB Bank account to her Maybank Islamic account after deceiving an individual into believing the money was for the company's zakat payment. She also faces five counts of receiving RM54,478 in criminal proceeds into her Maybank Islamic and CIMB accounts after similarly deceiving the same person. The offences were allegedly committed at CIMB and Maybank Islamic branches in Shah Alam between Aug 30, 2023, and Mar 4, 2024. She was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, which carries a maximum jail term of 15 years and a fine of at least five times the value of the illicit proceeds or RM5mil, whichever is higher, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor V. Manjira offered bail of RM60,000 for the six charges, with the condition that the accused surrender her passport to the court. Defence counsel Iqmal Jamal sought bail of RM10,000 for all charges, citing that his client earns only RM1,000-RM2,000 a month helping her mother sell local cakes and also assists with caring for her disabled sister. He also noted her full cooperation during the investigation. The court set bail at RM12,000 with two sureties for all charges, and imposed an order against contacting prosecution witnesses. The case is fixed for mention on Oct 6. - Bernama

China said to urge firms to shun Nvidia H20 chips tied to security risks, Bloomberg News reports

LONDON, Aug 12 — Chinese authorities have urged local companies to avoid using Nvidia's H20 processors, particularly for government-related purposes, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Authorities have sent notices to a range of firms discouraging use of the less-advanced semiconductors, with the guidance taking a particularly strong stance against the use of Nvidia's H20s for any government or national security-related work by state enterprises or private companies, the report said. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside regular business hours. Nvidia said in July that its products have no 'backdoors' that would allow remote access or control after China raised concerns over potential security risks in the chipmaker's H20 artificial intelligence chip. US President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that he might allow Nvidia to sell a scaled-down version of its next-generation advanced GPU chip, Blackwell, in China, despite deep-seated fears in Washington that China could harness US AI capabilities to supercharge its military. The most advanced chip Nvidia is currently allowed to sell to China is the H20, which is based off the company's older Hopper architecture platform. The Trump administration green-lighted exports of H20 AI to China last month. The Trump administration last week also confirmed an unprecedented deal with Nvidia and AMD to give the US government 15 per cent of revenue from sales of some advanced chips in China. China's renewed guidance on avoiding chips also impacts AI accelerators from Advanced Micro Devices, the Bloomberg report said, adding that it was unclear whether any notices from Chinese authorities specifically mentioned AMD's MI308 chip. AMD did not respond to a request for comment outside regular business. — Reuters
