Famous actress trades in BAFTAs for bar work in tiny Highland village
Award-winning actress and writer Ruth Jones has been swapping showbiz for seafood and serenity in the Scottish Highlands.
The Welsh actress – best known for writing, creating and starring in Gavin and Stacey alongside James Corden – has become a familiar face in the small fishing village of Lochinver.
In between award-winning turns on stage and screen, Jones leads a slightly quieter life at her second home in Lochinver.
The actress co-owns the village's popular seafood restaurant Peet's, alongside her husband David Peet.
During her frequent visits to the village, the actress has been spotted trading BAFTAs for bar work at Peet's.
Many a customer has found themselves being served food and drinks by the star.
Jones and her husband, a television producer, opened the restaurant in 2014.
They did so a year after buying a holiday home in the village, having fallen in love with the area.
The restaurant has proved popular with locals and tourists alike, serving freshly caught seafood and other local produce.
Although Jones still lives mainly in Cardiff, it is believed she rarely goes more than a few months without visiting her Highland escape.
Their holiday home, bought in 2013 for £240,000, sits in a secluded bay with views of Mount Suilven.
Jones's husband David is said to be a more frequent visitor, to check in on the bustling local restaurant.
The couple married in 1999 after meeting at BBC Wales and have worked together several times.
They notably collaborated on Sky series Stella, in which Jones played the lead role.
Jones has also written several bestselling novels.
She was awarded an MBE in 2014 for her contributions to entertainment.
Aside from Gavin and Stacey, she has also appeared in hit television shows Fat Friends and Little Britain.
Despite her fame, Jones is regularly spotted out and about in the tranquil Highland town.
She is also an avid supporter of the RNLI and has publicly praised the Lochinver crew for their hard work.
Last month the actress was honoured with a BAFTA award for best female performance in a comedy category for playing Nessa in Gavin and Stacey: The Finale.

Last call for Pendine Young Musician of Wales competition
Entries are now open for the second Pendine Young Musician of Wales competition, taking place during the 2025 North Wales International Music Festival at St Asaph Cathedral from September 11 to 20. The competition is open to instrumentalists and singers aged under 21 as of January 1 this year, who are either born or living in Wales, or Welsh nationals living abroad. Professor Paul Mealor, royal composer and co-founder of the competition, said: "It's not too late for young musicians to enter the competition – there's still a few weeks left. "We've already had a load of entries but we want to make sure we reach out to rising stars in every corner of Wales. "If there's any young instrumentalists or vocalists who want to have a chance to win thousands of pounds in prize money and to perform live on BBC Radio Cymru, they need to get their skates on." The competition is funded by the festival's headline sponsor, Pendine Park, through the Pendine Arts and Community Trust. The winner will receive the silver Pendine Trophy and a £2,000 cash prize. The judging panel includes Professor Helena Gaunt, principal of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama; internationally acclaimed soprano Rebecca Evans CBE; and Alun Jones, the festival's executive vice-chair and former principal of Chetham's School of Music. Mario Kreft MBE, co-founder of the competition alongside Professor Mealor, said: "After the success of the inaugural competition last year, we're really excited about the prospects for the 2025 contest. "Our aim is to encourage and foster young, emerging talent and the Pendine Young Musician of Wales competition has all the makings of a very prestigious event. "I think in years to come it will be one of the premier competitions for young musicians and will hopefully assist them and propel them in their careers. "From our perspective it totally fits in with our ethos as an inclusive, inter-generational care group." To enter, applicants must upload a video or audio performance and complete an application form by the deadline of 5pm on Friday, July 4. If under 18, entrants must have permission from a parent or teacher. Submissions will be judged anonymously, and selected candidates will be invited to perform a 10-minute programme in the semi-final. Four will advance to the final round. Having struggled with my weight since my teens and having tried (and failed) to do every fad diet going, I've always felt inadequate. I was grateful for the rise of the body confident movement, and I totally embraced it. Finally I could feel comfortable in my own skin because celebrities like Adele, Rebel Wilson and Lizzo - who looked like me - were saying they felt sexy, too. But over the last 12 months I've seen curvier (and actually not-so-curvy) celebs slim down at an accelerated rate with the rise of fat jabs. Everyone has the right to do what they want with their bodies and lose weight however they choose and there are certainly health benefits to slimming down. Stacey Solomon looks incredible as she strips off to black bikini and jumps off a bridge in Italy But this new quick fix means our celebrities are smaller than ever and I think it's making people forget what real women look like. The cult of thin is back in such a big way and it's depressing for those who aren't getting on board and sacrificing themselves to weight loss injections in a bid to be a skinny minny. Stacey, who is a busy mum to Zachary, 17, Leighton, 12, Rex, five, Rose, three and two-year-old Belle, has never shied away from celebrating her 'mum bod'. Stacey's success is not determined by the size on her clothes label And it is refreshing to see a typical healthy woman in the public eye. It makes me feel that it would be OK for me to get my body out this summer on holiday. Two years ago, the 35-year-old, who is married to Joe Swash, revealed to her followers she's a size 10-12. The average woman in the UK is a size 16 so while she is still smaller than most women, she is still being judged. The Loose Women star is also maintaining a healthy lifestyle, often working out in her newly built home gym where she aims to be strong not skinny. Standing in front of a mirror she said: 'I thought it was really important to come on here and say when I take the gym clothes off I look like this…' before pulling down her leggings down past her hips to show off unfiltered and non-photoshopped body. Strong not skinny She's got a host of TV shows and successful brand deals and is even rumoured to be taking part in this year's Strictly Come Dancing. Curtis Jones has been spotted lapping up the sunshine on holiday in Italy with his partner Saffie Khan, following a disappointing end to the season with England. The midfielder has earned a well-deserved rest after a campaign in which he helped Liverpool to their 20th league title. Jones, 24, notched up 46 appearances for the Reds in all competitions in the season just gone, with 33 of them coming in the Premier League as Arne Slot 's side romped to their record-equalling triumph. Following a glorious end to the club season, Jones was called up by Thomas Tuchel to play a part in England's June internationals. The boyhood Red started in an unfamiliar role during the Three Lions' drab narrow victory over Andorra - who are ranked 173rd in the world - while also getting a brief cameo in the worrying defeat to Senegal. He hasn't taken long to get the loss off his mind, however, jetting off to Portofino with Khan to embrace the sunshine that is currently absent from the UK. They then enjoyed some downtime as they awaited the arrival of their first child, with Jones not travelling to Germany for Euro 2024. The Liverpool footballer was the first to announce the happy news when their child was born, in a sweet update as he shared his daughter's name with fans. Alongside a series of adorable photos, he wrote: 'Giselle Delilah Jones. 13.10.24 You are our entire world.' In the update, shared to Instagram, Curtis cradled his baby daughter in the hospital before carrying her home in a car seat. Another photo of Saffie showed the family arriving home to a balloon arch and decorations that read: 'Welcome home baby Jones.' Jones is now the Scouser in Liverpool's team after the departure of fellow Liverpool-born star Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was today unveiled as a Real Madrid player. The midfielder was forced to deputise at right-back in April while the now Los Blancos star was out injured, and he passed his test in the Merseyside derby as Liverpool secured a mammoth three pints before sealing the title later in the month. He was so impressive that Tuchel decided to play him there instead of Alexander-Arnold on international duty last week. Although, Jones' performance was not quite as brilliant as two months earlier, with the majority of the Three Lions surprisingly struggling against Andorra.
