Tom Brady: Patrick Mahomes is the QB I see like me, doing everything it takes to win
Tom Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders, but it's the quarterback of the AFC West rival Chiefs he most respects in the NFL today. Asked on the Joel Klatt Show if there are any quarterbacks he respects for how they go about their business or remind him of himself, Brady named only Mahomes as he gave a long answer about everything a quarterback has to do to win. 'It's always that line about who wants to win versus who's willing to do whatever it takes to win,' Brady said. 'Everyone wants to win, but what are the habits and the daily habits and the actionable things you need to do every day to put your team in a position to win? So Patrick Mahomes, to me, is the one that does that the most often because who he is, obviously his physical talent, how he understands what he needs to do offensively, and he brings a consistent winning attitude to work every single day. In the biggest moments you can depend on him the most. That's clear.' Brady didn't mention any other active quarterbacks by name but indicated that the other top quarterbacks in the league still have more to prove before they're on Mahomes' level. 'There's other guys that are still developing, and they need to prove it before, in my mind, I can say, 'Oh yeah, he's done it.' Well, obviously, he hasn't done it yet,' Brady said. 'They've all shown flashes of amazing things. They're all great players. All of them can make tremendous plays. At some point, they need to take the next step and take, in my mind, more ownership of what they're doing, in terms of the organizational level, to do more things to empower more people, to get more people on that train or that bus with you to head in the direction you want to go.' Brady said he isn't sure if the current crop of quarterbacks outside Mahomes are doing every single thing they need to do to be the leaders of a franchise. 'The quarterback, in many ways, is the CEO of the team,' Brady said. 'Certainly on game day, there's nobody that impacts the game more than the quarterback in NFL football. Now, you have to have the ability and the belief from the entire team, offensively and defensively, that your word means so much. And how you act every day matters to all three phases of the game. As a quarterback you don't just punch the clock, 'I did my job, I threw for 40 touchdowns, why are we not winning?' What are you doing in the offseason to help your defense? What are you doing to push the personnel department, to get people doing the right thing. Are you involved in game planning? I used to do game plans. I used to walk in and say, 'Here's the things we're doing.' I used to do my own walk-throughs. I used to say, 'Alright, guys, I don't give a fuck if the coaches want to come, we're doing our walk-through.'' Brady reached 10 Super Bowls and won seven of them, the best in NFL history. Mahomes has been to five Super Bowls and won three. Time will tell if Mahomes is ever going to supplant Brady as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, but Brady thinks Mahomes is doing the right things to get there — even as the team Brady co-owns tries to prevent that from happening.

Nevada court apparently clears way for former Raiders coach Jon Gruden to sue NFL over emails
LAS VEGAS -- A Nevada court apparently cleared the way Monday for a 2021 lawsuit filed by former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden to proceed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that a 'malicious and orchestrated campaign' was used to destroy Gruden's career by leaking old emails he had sent that included racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments. In 2022, the NFL appealed to Nevada's high court after a judge in Las Vegas rejected league bids to dismiss Gruden's claim outright or to order out-of-court talks through an arbitration process that could be overseen by Goodell. The Nevada Supreme Court, in a 5-2 ruling, said that 'the arbitration clause in the NFL Constitution is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.' Gruden's lawsuit alleged that Goodell and the league pressured the Raiders to fire Gruden by leaking emails containing racist, sexist and homophobic comments that Gruden sent, when he was an on-air analyst at ESPN from 2011 to 2018. Gruden resigned from the Raiders in October 2021 and sued the league a month later. The NFL declined to comment on the ruling. Gruden's attorney did not return a phone message seeking comment. Gruden was Raiders head coach when the team moved in 2020 to Las Vegas from Oakland, California. He's seeking monetary damages, alleging that selective disclosure of the emails and their publication by the Wall Street Journal and New York Times ruined his career and endorsement contracts. Gruden coached the Raiders in Oakland from 1998 to 2001, then led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for seven years, winning a Super Bowl title in 2003. He spent several years as a TV analyst for ESPN before being hired by the Raiders again in 2018. He later consulted for the New Orleans Saints in 2023. He is now a part-owner and consultant for the Nashville Kats, a team in the Arena Football One league.

Roosters player linked to Raiders swoop as doubts raised over Cherry-Evans move
The Roosters have reportedly told Sandon Smith he is free to negotiate with other clubs with the Raiders linked to the young star as fans wait for Daly Cherry-Evans to make an announcement. Fans have become increasingly frustrated with the Cherry-Evans saga with the Manly No.7 announcing earlier this season he would not be playing at the Manly Sea Eagles in 2026. Many have argued the saga has taken its toll on Manly and the players with the halfback still yet to confirm where he is going next year. Although the 36-year-old has been heavily linked to a move with the Roosters for next season. Reports suggest he will sign a one-year contract, before moving into a coaching role at the club. And one of the signs the Roosters are preparing for his arrival appears to have occurred. NRL reporter Michael Chammas claimed the Roosters have told promising playmaker Smith he is free to negotiate with other clubs. Speaking on Channel Nine's 100% Footy on Monday night, Chammas said the young star has been linked with the Raiders considering Jamal Fogarty is taking Cherry-Evans' place at the Sea Eagles. Although Smith would most likely play second-string to promising superstars Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders going forward. 'He's been in conversations with the Canberra Raiders,' he said. 'The Raiders are looking at some depth. I don't know if it will play out that way, whether or not he wants to go somewhere and start. Options are limited.' Smith could been seen as a stellar back-up option for Ricky Stuart in 2026 with the Raiders short on depth in the halves if there was to be an injury. While Smith would be a solid signing for the Raiders, there are question marks over Cherry-Evans' move to the Roosters. Doubts over Daly Cherry-Evans move to Roosters While there has been speculation on whether Cherry-Evans has already signed for the Roosters, NRL reporter Phil Rothfield claimed it hasn't yet been registered with the NRL if he had. And this gives the Roosters more options. 'If he has signed anything his contract has not been registered with the NRL,' Rothfield claimed on NRL 360. 'They've got to pay Daly Cherry-Evans whatever they've promised him because they've got an agreement. But If they paid him now on the side and said come here and join Robbo's coaching stuff, what I'm saying is it doesn't effect the salary cap.' Former Roosters five-eighth Braith Anasta questioned if signing the 36-year-old will benefit the club. Cherry-Evans' form has significantly dropped off since the start of the season with the veteran appearing to slow down. The Roosters have found success in recent weeks with the pairing of Sam Walker and Hugo Savala in the halves. And Anasta said he is not sure if breaking up this promising partnership is worth it for a chance of short-term success. 'Walker and Savala, they were great on the weekend,' Anasta said on NRL 360. 'DCE was poor. 'The DCE issue, I know we've spoken about it a lot, but it's getting bigger because his form is dropping by the game, and Savala was outstanding on the weekend. The Roosters have found form. 'It is a little bit concerning now. They've got him coming in for Savala, and Sandon (Smith) moving on, most likely. Every week that goes on, I start going, well, hang on. As the year's gone on, his form's dropped. Next year's another year, another year older.' Reporter Brent Read suggested Cherry-Evans would still walk into the Roosters halves for a season, but not everyone is convinced the dynamics would work. Regardless, Cherry-Evans' move is yet to be announced with the saga dragging out another week.
