South Range's season ends in regional final
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – South Range softball's season ends in a loss to Manchester, 5-4, in the Division V Regional Final in the 2025 OHSAA Softball State Tournament at Youngstown State University on Saturday afternoon. Watch above for extended highlights! Manchester hit three home runs in the victory. South Range's Giada Pauline and Ashley Rupert each drove in one run. Also, Solena DeJesus posted two RBIs in the loss. The Raiders' season ends with an overall record of 22-10. South Range concludes the 2024-2025 season with a sixth straight district championship. South Range softball knocks off Champion in extra innings
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – South Range has ended Champion's playoff run for the third straight season with a 1-0 victory in extra innings in the Division V Regional Semifinals on Wednesday. A throwing error by Champion at the top of the 9th provided the game's only run. Watch the video above for highlights and post game interviews. Both starting pitchers were outstanding in the circle at YSU's Covelli Sports Complex. South Range was led by junior Ashley Rupert. She threw nine scoreless innings and allowed only one hit. Champion senior and Penn State recruit Gabby Gradishar recorded 18 strikeouts and allowed three hits. The Raiders, who finished as the Division III State Runner-Up last season, improve to 22-9 overall this year. They will now advance to play the winner of LaBrae and Akron Manchester in the Division V Regional Championship on Friday. Champion's season comes to an end with an overall record of 20-6. South Range wins 6th straight District Championship
DALTON, Ohio (WKBN) – The South Range softball team claimed its 6th consecutive District Championship with a 12-5 win over Wooster Triway Wednesday night in Dalton. The Raiders, a 6-seed in the Division V playoffs this year, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Jayli Wilt homered in the 3rd, and freshman Sophia Brogan connected on a 2-run bomb in the 4th to give South Range a 10-4 lead. The Raiders, who finished as the Division III State Runner-Up last season, improve to 21-9 overall this year. They will now advance to the Division V Regional Semifinals next week. South Range dominates in district semifinal win
CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – South Range has defeated its first two playoff opponents this year by a combined score of 35-4 following Monday's 12-2 win over Keystone. Anna Aey doubled three times, drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Raiders. Solena DeJesus, the Raiders' leadoff hitter, collected three singles and crossed the plate twice. Heidi Bartels, South Range's catcher, finished with a double and a single while she also drove in 2 runs. Jayli Wilt also doubled in the win. Ashley Rupert struck out 5 batters during 5 innings of work; while not allowing an earned run as she picked up the win. The Raiders (19-9) will be matched against Norwayne/Triway on Wednesday in the Northeast 2 Division 5 district championship game. Keystone ends the year with a 15-10 mark. South Range two-way standout commits to the next level
CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – South Range two-way star Tristan Toy announced his commitment to Baldwin Wallace football to continue his academic and athletic career. He made the announcement on social media on Monday night. As a senior, Toy threw for 1,619 passing yards while racking up 1,122 rushing yards and 42 total touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 56 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. The Raiders finished the season 14-1 and were Division V state semifinalists. Throughout his four-year career, Toy was a part of a 55-4 overall stretch with four undefeated Northeast 8 Championships, two Regional Championships and the 2022 State Championship.
