Coventry fight back to beat Derby in eight-goal thriller
The teams traded goals in the first half with Derby twice coming from behind to go in level at the break before skipper Ebou Adams put them in front.
But after Brandon Thomas-Asante equalised, Ephron Mason-Clark and Victor Torp finally settled a pulsating match.
Coventry's first Championship goal of the season was tinged with good fortune as Jacob Widell Zetterstrom punched Matt Grimes's low free-kick against Bobby Thomas and the ball bounced into the net in the seventh minute.
But there was nothing remotely lucky about the equaliser five minutes later. David Ozoh won a free-kick on the left side of the Coventry penalty area and Callum Elder bent his shot at pace into the top right corner.
Haji Wright dragged a good chance wide but the forward made no mistake when Coventry won a penalty in the 25th minute.
Mason-Clark's run into the box was halted by Dion Sanderson's trip and Wright smashed the spot-kick into the roof of the net.
Coventry's pace and movement was causing Derby problems but the home side almost equalised again against the run of play when Ryan Nyambe's 25-yard shot was turned behind by Carl Rushworth.
But the home side levelled in first-half added time after Thomas inexplicably handled a cross and Carlton Morris coolly rolled in the penalty.
Coventry would have wondered how they were not ahead at the break but five minutes into the second half they were behind.
A long throw dropped to Adams who placed a low shot into the bottom corner from 10 yards.
But a game of twists and turns changed dramatically again as Coventry scored twice in the space of four minutes.
Another long throw in the 72nd minute was headed by Thomas against a post and Thomas-Asante bundled the ball over the line.
Derby were caught cold in the 75th minute when Milan Van Ewijk got in on the right and crossed for Mason-Clark to head in at the back post.
Four minutes later Coventry had a fifth with Torp given space just inside the area to fire a low shot in off the left post to seal the Sky Blues' first win at Derby in 11 matches.

Morecambe FC unveil Ashvir Singh Johal as new manager
Morecambe FC have unveiled Ashvir Singh Johal as the club's new manager. The appointment comes just two days after the club was bought by the Panjab Warriors group, after two year protracted sale process . After confirming the takeover, the first action of the Shrimps' new owners was to part ways with manager Derek Adams. Who is Ashvir Singh Johal? Adams, 50, was in his third stint in charge of the National League club having been appointed in June 2024. A Morecambe statement said the club gave "its sincere gratitude" to Adams for the "leadership and steadiness he brought to the club" throughout a "testing chapter". Just hours after confirming Adams' departure, the club confirmed Ashvir Singh Johal as the club's new manager. The 30-year old from Leicester has coached at Leicester City, Wigan and Como, and claims to be one of the youngest UEFA Pro Licence holders in Europe. In an interview released by the club on Twitter on Tuesday, he said he's proud to take up the role. In a statement released on the club's website, Morecambe FC said: "Morecambe Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Ashvir Singh Johal as the Club's new First Team Manager. "He arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium with an excellent reputation as a forward-thinking coach and leader, bringing with him a wealth of experience in player development, tactical innovation, and building high-performance cultures. "Ashvir spent 10 years at Leicester City, coaching players in the academy setup from U7s all the way through to U18s, during that time Leicester City went through their most successful period as a football club. "His first experience at first team coaching came when he joined Wigan Athletic in 2022 as first-team coach in the Championship. "In June 2025, at 30 years old, he completed his UEFA Pro Licence with the FA, the highest qualification in management and football coaching. "His appointment marks an exciting new era for the Shrimps as the Club continues its journey under fresh ownership and renewed ambition. "Ashvir takes charge with immediate effect and will begin preparations for the upcoming season. "Morecambe FC would like to extend a warm welcome to Ashvir and wishes him every success in his new role. It was announced on Sunday that Bond Group had sold its majority shareholding to the investment company, after the club had been up for sale for almost three years. The Hoops have until 11pm on Tuesday night to make two additions to their 25-man squad ahead of Wednesday's first leg blockbuster against Kairat Almaty. Despite being frustrated at the lack of business being done, Rodgers has reiterated his hope that his frontline can be bolstered before the looming deadline - with wingers and a main striker on the shopping list. Vardy, 38, is being chased by several sides with Napoli, West Ham and big-spending Championship new boys Wrexham interested. However, sources suggest the ex-England star - who has been without a club since leaving the Foxes at the end of last season - has set his heart on a stunning switch to Parkhead. Vardy has been keeping himself fit with a personal trainer and is determined to continue playing at the highest level until he's 40. David Strelec is on the radar too and his father believes Slovan Bratislava's elimination from the Champions League could see the Hoops reignite their interest in the hitman, after seeing a January bid thrown out. Milan Strelec said: "When Slovan were trying to win through to the main stages of the Champions League again, the club's management would not consider David's transfer. "Or at least it was not high on their agenda. But now I presume things will start to happen before the August deadline. "Things will start heating up around David again. As far as I know, several clubs are still interested, including Celtic and Middlesbrough and we know both had bids for him in the past. So I am curious what will happen in the remaining few days before the deadline." However, it's believed an agreement is unlikely unless there is a significant drop in the £9million asking price from the Slovakians. Celts have also been alerted to the availability of Feyenoord winger Calvin Stengs. The Netherlands international, 26, has fallen out of favour after an injury-hit couple of seasons and is tipped for an exit in the next fortnight. The door has not yet been shut on long-term target Michel-Ange Balikwisha, and it's understood negotiations with Royal Antwerp are ongoing. Parkhead chiefs remain optimistic that a deal can be struck for the £4.5million-rated winger, who is out of contract next summer. Cluj goal machine Louis Munteanu is among a list of targets, with reports suggesting Celts had a £6.9m bid rejected for the Romania striker earlier in the window. The 23-year-old is currently embroiled in an ongoing pay dispute with his club and was nowhere to be seen in last week's Europa League defeat to Braga. Celtic are overloaded with midfield options but Andy Irving's name refuses to go away, with West Ham willing to do business for a modest £3.5m. The ex-Hearts star, 25, is believed to be drawing interest from Rangers too and looks poised to quit the Hammers in search of more minutes. However, with Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Ben Nygren, Arne Engels, Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo all battling it out for starts, another central midfielder isn't a priority. A deputy left-back for Kieran Tierney is on the agenda, though, and versatile Cagliari defender Adam Obert could fit the bill. The Slovakian international - who can also play centre-back and left mid - is said to be attracting interest from Celtic and in Germany, but would cost around £6m.
