Naidu unveils vision to make A.P. a global tourism destination

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday unveiled an ambitious vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in tourism.
Addressing a gathering of industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders at 'Andhra Pradesh Tourism Conclave Tech AI 2.0' in Vijayawada, the Chief Minister described tourism as the engine of future growth and emphasised its central role in driving economic transformation, employment generation, and cultural promotion. As many as 82 MoUs worth ₹10,329 crore were signed at the conclave.
Speaking about the need to promote yoga and natural wellness, Mr. Naidu said Andhra Pradesh will be the wellness and happiness destination of the future. He invited yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who was present on the occasion, to promote wellness tourism in the State and take on an advisory role.
Tourism, the only '-ism'
Highlighting the tourism sector's transformative power, Mr. Naidu reiterated his oft-repeated line: 'All other 'isms' may fade, but tourism is the only '-ism' that will survive.' He reinforced the idea that tourism is not only a cultural and economic catalyst, but also a sustainable engine for inclusive development.
'Globally, one in every 10 jobs is from tourism,' he pointed out, emphasising the sector's potential to create eight jobs for every ₹1 lakh invested, which is more than IT, manufacturing, or agriculture. He shared plans to increase the sector's employment share from 12% to 15%, and its contribution to GSDP from ₹74,000 crore to ₹2,40,000 crore by 2029.
Empowering communities
Speaking about the inclusive homestay policy, Mr. Naidu said the target was to create 10,000-plus homestays across tribal, rural, coastal, and heritage regions. 'From 19,500 rooms today, we aim to scale up to 50,000 rooms by 2029,' he said.
In the past, his idea was to promote one IT professional in every family, and now he is eager to achieve the 'one family, one entrepreneur' goal. The proposed Ratan Tata Innovation Hub at Amravati would help the government achieve its target, he said.
'Andhra Pradesh has the best temples, and 21 of them generate wealth,' Mr. Naidu said, and cited the gifts of the State including the ancient cities, a 1,000-km coastline, forest reserves and riverine systems like the Godavari and Krishna. 'The government is developing seven anchor hubs at Visakhapatnam, Araku, Rajahmundry, Amaravati, Srisailam, Gandikota, and Tirupati and over 25 thematic circuits, including 10 temple circuits, five coastal, four river routes, two cruises, two Buddhist sites and three eco-tourism trails, he said.
A win-win opportunity
The Chief Minister said the State had designed an investor-friendly Tourism Policy 2024-29, which proved to be a game-changer and shattered the myth that only the wealthy can invest in tourism sector. 'Tourism has now been granted industry status across segments, with incentives like 100% stamp duty exemption, electricity duty reimbursement for five years, SGST reimbursements for up to 15 years, and fast-tracked clearances under the 'Speed of Doing Business' initiative, he said, adding, 'Speed of doing business in real-time will cut red tape. I'm ready to introduce more reforms if needed.'
Mr. Ramdev lauded Mr. Naidu's leadership and his transformative governance. He called for the development of Horsley Hills as an international wellness destination, integrating yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy. He also announced plans to set up Patanjali wellness centers across Andhra Pradesh and suggested promoting scenic locations as premium wedding venues, celebrating Indian traditions.
Mr. Naidu responded by promising full support, including an airport at Madanapalle, to boost wellness tourism.
Earlier, the Chief Minister flagged off the Caravan Tourism initiative, offering modern, mobile travel solutions for families and groups. He also released the State Tourism Digital Calendar along with a new brochure, strategy paper, and annual tourism event schedule.
Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, Special Chief Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Ajay Jain, Managing Director of AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and CEO of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority Amrapali Kata, Director of Global Forum for Sustainable Transformation (GFST) Cherukuri Kutumba Rao and its vice-chairman S.P. Tucker and others were present.

The MoUs were formalized in the presence of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the AP Tourism Tech AI 2.0 conclave here. These partnerships are expected to generate employment for 22,325 people and add 7,600 new hotel room keys across the state over the next four years. AP Chambers seeks central support for tourism projects in state

Vijayawada: The AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation sought unconditional support of the Union govt for the development of various tourism projects across Andhra Pradesh. In this regard, the AP Chambers representatives submitted a representation to Union tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, highlighting the vast tourism potential of the state. They detailed the support needed from the Centre for the development of tourism in Andhra Pradesh during his visit to Vijayawada on Thursday. In its representation, the AP Chambers urged the Centre to support the following key tourism projects in the state through adequate financial support. The Chambers urged the Union govt to develop a Coastal Beach Corridor between Suryalanka in Bapatla district and Vodarevu in Chirala of Prakasam district as this coastal stretch has immense potential for tourism-driven growth. This 10-km beach stretch is home to 40-50 mid-scale resorts (MSMEs) by local entrepreneurs. However, there is no proper beach road connecting the beaches in the region. The Chambers requested the development of a beach road between Suryalanka and Vodarevu beaches, which has the potential to attract at least another 20 to 25 high-end resorts in this area, making this entire stretch another 'mini Goa' like destination in AP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy the Dip: Top 5 Dividend Stocks with Growth Potential Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo Subsequently, the Union govt has been urged to position and promote Visakhapatnam as the 'gateway to Andhra Pradesh' by all modes of promotion, marketing, and publicity by the govt. The Union govt should accord an 'open sky policy' for Visakhapatnam international airport with a hub & spoke strategy, which will boost tourist inflow into the state phenomenally. The Centre was also urged to provide beach destination status to Visakhapatnam. Other tourism development projects included the development of Manginapudi beach at Machilipatnam as a 'beachfront tourism destination' under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme, in tune with the upcoming development projects in the region, 'Machilipatnam greenfield port' and an ultra-modern 'Machilipatnam fishing harbour', which will significantly enhance the connectivity and tourism potential of the region. The AP Chambers further pushed the Union govt to secure the UNESCO World Heritage Site tags for Lepakshi Group of Temples, Gandikota Grand Canyon & Fort, Belum Caves, Guntupalli group of monuments, Salihundam group of Buddhist monuments, and others which have the best chances for securing the UNESCO tag from the state. Further, the Chambers urged the govt for the development of "Indrakeeladri-Berm Park-Bhavani Island" as a 'riverfront mega tourism hub' in Vijayawada, the development of the 'Visakhapatnam-Bhimili-Bhogapuram beachfront corridor' as a 'mega beachfront Tourism Corridor', and the development of 'Godavari riverfront districts' as a 'Konaseema agri & rural tourism corridor' with central financial assistance.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu vows smart governance, zero tolerance for criminal elements

Guntur: Emphasizing that robust law and order is essential for attracting investments, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu said his govt is committed to smart governance to deliver better public services. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Declaring zero tolerance for criminal elements, he affirmed that as long as he is at the helm, there is no place for such forces in Andhra Pradesh. The CM made these remarks while inaugurating the AI-Police Hackathon organised by the state police department at a private engineering college on Friday. Interacting with IT experts, Naidu recalled that Hyderabad became one of the most livable cities due to his efforts to curb communal violence during his previous tenure as chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. "Hyderabad's transformation into an IT powerhouse with the highest per capita income in the country was made possible due to sustained investments in the sector, fostered by a peaceful environment. Andhra Pradesh will soon become an even bigger magnet for IT investments," Naidu stated. He said that they have set their focus on elimination of criminal forces along with technology. "Technology helped catch the culprits in former MP Vivekananda Reddy murder case. CBI's google-take out brought them to light. Our police too become smart to nail the real culprits of the crime. We can achieve zero crime rate with the help of AI in future," said chief minister. He said that it was unfortunate that the former chief minister was backing the rowdy-sheeters and criminal elements. "We're committed to using both strict policing and advanced technology to root out criminal networks," he said, citing AI tools and CBI breakthroughs such as Google Takeout in cracking complex cases like the Vivekananda Reddy murder.
