PM to open Tuticorin airport's new bldg today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
will arrive in Tuticorin on Saturday evening for a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu. Arriving from Maldives, where he is on an official visit, he will inaugurate the new terminal building of Tuticorin airport around 7.45pm.
Modi will walk through the new terminal building after opening it. Subsequently, he will lay foundation stones and inaugurate various projects.
Tight security arrangements have been made in Tuticorin district ahead of the PM's visit. Nearly 1,500 police personnel have been deployed in and around the airport. Coastal Security Group DIG Mahesh Kumar told reporters that heavy security arrangements have been made along the sea too.
A team comprising an ASP, a DSP, three inspectors, and 75 police personnel were deployed in three shifts for round-the-clock surveillance of the coast.
After the event, Modi will leave for Trichy where he will stay overnight. On Sunday, he will attend the Aadi Thiruvathirai (birth anniversary) festival of Chola emperor Rajendra Chola I at Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Ariyalur district.

1 2 3 Nagpur: In a tragic loss to the world of Marathi literature, acclaimed author and senior novelist Shubhangi Bhadbhade passed away on Monday morning at Nagpur. She was 80 and remained actively engaged in literary pursuits till her last day. She is survived by three sons — Sunil, Sujit, and Sagar — along with daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Her last rites will be performed at Ambazari Ghat at 10am on Wednesday. A true literary devotee, Bhadbhade, known to all as Shubhangi Tai, authored over 80 novels, two short story collections, and numerous essays and thought pieces. She was especially known for her biographical novels — a genre in which she made a mark with her distinctive style. She wrote on stalwarts like Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, RSS founder Dr KB Hedgewar, Guruji Golwalkar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, offering insightful perspectives into their lives. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over her demise, calling her 'a gifted literary figure and a guiding light for the writing community'. "Through her Padmagandha Pratishthan, she created a strong platform for emerging writers, especially in Vidarbha. Her biographical novel 'Mrityunjayacha Mahayadnya' on Savarkar was a milestone. I requested her to turn it into an audiobook, and she gladly agreed — that project was completed. I often wrote forewords for her books, which gave us frequent opportunities for discussion," he recalled in an emotional tribute. "We have lost a talented writer and a senior mentor. I offer heartfelt condolences to her family, admirers, and the literary fraternity." Union minister Nitin Gadkari also paid homage, describing her as a cultural force who nurtured literature in Vidarbha. "Her contribution to literature is unforgettable. With over 80 novels, she has left behind an invaluable treasure for readers. Through Padmagandha Pratishthan, she consistently organised unique literary events like the Lekhika Natya Mahotsav and several literary meets," said Gadkari. "She connected women writers across Vidarbha and inspired many young authors. Her passing is a major loss to the literary world. May the Bhadbhade family find strength in this moment of grief." Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule also offered condolences. People from the literature scene in Nagpur recalled that Bhadbhade attended the launch event of 'Mee Aaryaputra', the translated novel of Dr Bharati Sudame on July 27 evening. She interacted warmly with guests and well-wishers — her final public appearance before the sudden news of her passing stunned the literary community. Gujarat beats other states in implementation of PM-JANMAN in July
Gujarat has secured the top rank, beating all other states in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) in July 2025, according to a government release, which cited the monthly rankings of states released under the scheme. Of the 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) residing in the 18 states and one Union Territory, five — Kathodi, Kotwalia, Padhar, Siddi and Kolgha — are in Gujarat The mission, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2023, aims at comprehensive development of the PVTGs by providing critical infrastructure and basic services within a set timeframe. As of July, Gujarat has sanctioned 12,489 houses under the PM-JANMAN. Also, 17 road projects have been approved. Notably, 100% of the 2,803 identified PVTG households, which lacked piped water supply, have now been covered. Electricity has reached 5,200 PVTG households under the mission, and 37 mobile towers have been installed, with work on 34 additional towers currently underway. Health services have been expanded through the deployment of 22 mobile medical units, and 67 Anganwadi centres are set to be established specifically for tribal women. In the education sector, 13 hostels have been sanctioned. Additionally, the government has approved 21 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) to promote livelihood opportunities through the value addition of forest produce. Further, 39 multipurpose centres have been sanctioned to deliver services like skill training, nutrition, health, adult education, and cultural programmes, the statement said. The mission is implemented with coordinated efforts from eight central ministries: Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah To Address Lok Sabha Today
New Delhi: As the Parliament continues its discussion on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deliver his speech in the evening, according to a government source. The source said that Home Minister Amit Shah will address the Lok Sabha between 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Tuesday. The Lok Sabha on Monday afternoon began discussion on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The debate was initiated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The Defence Minister, while speaking in the Lower House, said, "The objective of Operation Sindoor was not to cross the border or capture the territory, it was to eliminate terror nurseries which Pakistan had nurtured for years, and provide justice to the innocent families who lost their loved ones in cross-border attacks." According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, he termed Pakistan-sponsored terrorism as not "Random Madness", but a "well-planned strategy" and a "fundamental rage", emphasising that the overall politico-military objective of Operation Sindoor was to punish Pakistan for fighting a proxy war in the form of terrorism. Singh asserted that, during Operation Sindoor, India not only demonstrated its military capability, but also its national resolve, morality and political acumen, stressing that New Delhi will give a decisive and clear answer to any terrorist attack. "Those who provide shelter and support to terrorism will not be spared. India is not going to bow down to any kind of nuclear blackmailing or other pressures," he said.
