Viktor Gyokeres' 'father brought to tears' after latest Arsenal transfer development
The ongoing saga over Viktor Gyokeres ' future is taking its toll on the Sporting Lisbon striker and his family with Arsenal and the Portuguese champions refusing to budge in negotiations.
Gyokeres, 27, has emerged as the Gunners' top striker target this summer. And talks over a deal which would see the Sweden international head to the Premier League have been taking place over the last couple of weeks, though said discussions have so far failed to yield a full agreement.
It emerged last weekend that Arsenal and Sporting have verbally agreed a deal in principle worth an initial £55million plus £8.6m in add-ons and bonuses.
However, the two sides have hit a deadlock in discussions over the structure of said add-ons, with Sporting demanding that the bulk of the additional bonuses are easily achievable.
With talks dragging on, Arsenal have been unable to sign Gyokeres in time for their pre-season tour of Asia - and the delay is also affecting Gyokeres and his family.
A new report from Abola has detailed how the player's father has been reduced to tears over Sporting's handling of the situation.
Sporting are showing no signs of softening their stance over their demands and, per the report, there are now concerns that could ultimately lead to a deal collapsing.
It's said Arsenal 'haven't shown any sign of life' in six days amid the current deadlock, further fuelling fears that Gyokeres could be denied a dream transfer to The Emirates.
Gyokeres has already made it clear that he will not return to Sporting and footage of a removal van outside his home in Portugal quickly went viral after being shown on CNN earlier this week. He refused to return to training last week and was not part of the squad that travelled for the club's pre-season training camp.
Frederico Varandas has been outspoken on negotiations and continues to insist that Sporting's star strike will not be allowed to leave unless the club's demands are met. 'If they don't want to pay Viktor's fair market value, we're very comfortable with that for the next three years,' he said.
"This strategy is also making it more complicated for the player to leave. Nobody is above the interests of the club. Whoever they are. We're calm. Everything will be resolved with the market closing, a hefty fine and an apology to the group.'

After leaving Blackburn Rovers in 1996, Shearer had been faced with the same choice between the Magpies and the Red Devils but made the opposite decision to Sesko. The Premier League legend, however, does not blame the 22-year-old for his choice to move to Manchester. 'That's his choice. He's chosen to go to a club who finished 15th last year and are not in Europe this year,' he said. 'It's a lot of money. I watched him a few times last year. There's definitely room for improvement, which I'm sure he will. But good luck.' But despite his disappointment at Newcastle's expeditions into the transfer market, Shearer still found plenty to look forward to about the new Premier League season and potential new faces. Bruno Fernandes transfer bombshell dropped as manager confirms Man Utd offer
Al Nassr manager Jorge Jesus has confirmed that the Saudi club made an approach to sign Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes during this summer's window Jorge Jesus has admitted he failed in an attempt to sign Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder was at the centre of an approach from Saudi champions Al-Hilal after suggesting he could leave Old Trafford at the end of last season. Fernandes was given a ludicrous offer that would have seen him bank more than £60million-per-year, with the Red Devils offered £105m for his services. However, despite revealing he had considered making the same move compatriot and former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo made, he opted to remain with United. And now it has emerged that Ronaldo's current employers, Al Nassr, also made a tentative approach to try and sign the 30-year-old. Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus has confessed that he did hold talks with Fernandes, but was told that he wished to stay with Ruben Amorim. "I wanted to [sign him], but Bruno is determined to stay,' Jesus told Sport Informa. 'We already talked last year. This year I knew he had made the decision to continue with Amorim. 'He's in a league that they say is the best in the world, but I don't agree. For me, it's the Spanish league." Fernandes will instead be the centrepoint of a United attacking spending spree that is set to eclipse £200m. Benjamin Sesko is set to be Amorim's third recruit of the summer, joining from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £74m. The Slovenian will join Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo who signed after big money deals from Wolves and Brentford respectively. And it's business United needed to complete after scoring just 44 league goals in last season's miserable domestic campaign. The arrival of Sesko came after Fernandes made it clear that further improvements were needed. Speaking on their US tour, he said: 'I don't want to have a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best they can in terms of all the financial situations they talk about. 'I don't know about it, I'm not involved in that. But obviously it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here. 'We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.' On his own transfer saga, Fernandes hinted that United's defiant stance ultimately made his mind up. He said: . "There was that possibility, the president of Al Hilal called me a month ago to ask me about it. There was a waiting period for me to think about the future. "As I have always said, I would be willing to do it if Manchester United thought so. I spoke to coach Ruben Amorim who, throughout that period, was very annoying to me not to go. The club said they would not be willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave." United face Fiorentina at Old Trafford in their final pre-season game on Saturday, before their Premier League season kicks off when they face Arsenal on August 17.
