Bagnaia takes out Americas GP in Texas, Miller fifth
Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia has won a chaotic Americas Grand Prix ahead of Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez after leader Marc Marquez crashed halfway through the race to lose for the first time this season.
Marquez had clinched pole position in qualifying as well as a third straight sprint victory on Saturday, but after a first crash on the red Ducati, the six-times MotoGP champion opted to retire due to extensive damage on his bike.
Although Bagnaia took the chequered flag on Sunday to move up to 75 points, Alex Marquez will leave Austin with the bigger smile as finishing second moved him to the top of the championship on 87 points, one point ahead of his elder brother Marc.
Fabio Di Giannantonio finished third to give Ducati another clean sweep of the podium, while fellow of VR46 Racing teammate Franco Morbidelli was fourth and Australia's Jack Miller fifth.

"I'm super happy, I'm already without (my) voice, I screamed out loud," Bagnaia said after he had a celebratory hot dog in the paddock.
"What a fantastic feeling, to be back on the top step of the podium after such a difficult period."
Even before the race began, there was chaos when the sun briefly came out and riders who had opted for wet tyres suddenly sprinted back to the pits to swap their bikes, opting for slicks on a drying track, leading to a red flag.
When the 19-lap race eventually got underway, Marc Marquez had a perfect launch off the line, leading his brother and Bagnaia before he peeled away and established a lead of over a second by the end of the opening lap.
Bagnaia had been finishing behind the Marquez brothers in previous races and sprints, and the Italian was determined to finish higher, using Alex's slipstream to overtake the Gresini rider and take second place on lap four.
Marc looked to be in cruise control as he set a race lap record but the Spaniard suddenly slid off the track on lap nine, seeing his hopes of a record-extending eighth victory at the Circuit of the Americas go up in smoke.

Behind him, Bagnaia's eyes lit up and the twice world champion grabbed the opportunity to close the gap to his teammate in the championship, extending his lead over Alex as the race wore on.
Bagnaia eventually won with a two-second lead over Alex, who had no problem finishing second for a third straight race.
"Now we are leading the championship, something that is really great. We are Mr Seconds, but (being) Mr Seconds also pays off," Alex said with a grin.

IndyCar to return to Detroit Grand Prix for at least 3 more years
DETROIT — The Detroit Grand Prix is coming back for 2026 and beyond. As confirmed by Penske Corp. vice president of community and government affairs Letty Azar, the Grand Prix has signed a three-year contract with the Detroit City Council, with an option for a fourth year. That should keep IndyCar's grand prix on the streets of Downtown Detroit through 2028 (and possibly 2029) on the current deal. In 2021, Detroit Grand Prix officials agreed to a contract with the Detroit City Council to hold the grand prix in downtown Detroit for three years starting in 2023. It marked a return to a downtown street course that the grand prix started with in 1982 before moving to Belle Isle for stops and starts between 1989 and 2022. One potential issue surrounding the future of the race is the uncertain fate of the Renaissance Center, which currently has plans to have two of its buildings demolished. Grand Prix president Bud Denker said the RenCen's potential deconstruction creates a situation that is still "TBD" for the Grand Prix. "That's still a little ways off, because a couple of things have to happen in 2027," Denker said, referring to Ford Field hosting the 2027 Final Four. According to Denker, that event will require hotel rooms provided by the Marriott hotel inside of the Renaissance Center to take place. "Nothing is going to be going away here from what we understand until past 2027," he said. Denker also poured cold water on the possibility of extending the track, currently the shortest street course on the IndyCar circuit at under 1.7 miles. To extend it to the east would bring it to a residential neighborhood, while extending it to the west would bring it closer to the Huntington Center, which would leave little to no room for safe turnout areas on the fastest stretch of the course. When asked if it was possible to make the course wider, Denker said no, saying the blocks that hold the base of the walls are already on top of the street curbs. Denker highlighted the growth of the 2025 race, saying that the Grand Prix outsold its total 2024 ticket volume by Friday, May 30 — two days before the race.

Hamilton passed by Leclerc and Hulkenberg in another low point since joining Ferrari
MONTMELO, Spain (AP) — Lewis Hamilton's frustrating debut season with Ferrari hit a new low point during the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday. A sixth-placed finish wasn't bad, even for a seven-time world champion. But Hamilton again finished behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who was third, and had to endure his team telling him to get out the way for Leclerc. Worse was to come near the end, however, when Nico Hulkenberg overtook Hamilton in his Sauber. Hamilton said his car was unbalanced. 'I have no idea why it was so bad,' Hamilton said. 'That was the worst race I have experienced, balance-wise.' The only bright spot for Hamilton since he left Mercedes for Ferrari this season was his sprint win in China. That, however, was followed by a double disqualification for him and Leclerc in the Grand Prix the next day. His best race finish this season was fourth in Imola. ___
