VICTORIA, Seychelles, May 14, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bitget, the leading cryptocurrency exchange and Web3 company, reports that its Protection Fund held an average value of $561 million throughout April 2025, highlighting the exchange's ongoing efforts to maintain strong security for its user base. The Protection Fund hit a high of $617M and a low of $496M for the month of April but maintained a strong average overall. The fund remains a key layer of protection against market instability, offering reassurance to users during a period of macroeconomic uncertainty and shifting investor sentiment in crypto markets.
The fund fluctuated in tandem with broader digital asset movements in April, as Bitcoin traded within a moderate range and altcoins showed mixed performance. Despite a challenging market, the Protection Fund sustained strong fundamentals, showcasing its stability and the resilience of Bitget's risk mitigation framework.
'Our Protection Fund continues to reflect the strength of Bitget's long-term security strategy,' said Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget. 'As conditions in the crypto market evolve, the fund's performance shows our priority in safeguarding user assets and building a reliable ecosystem that can weather both volatility and growth.'
Launched in 2022 with an initial allocation of $300 million, the Protection Fund has more than doubled in size, bolstered by Bitget's steady platform growth and smart financial management. Bitget's security framework is built on a comprehensive, multi-layered approach that goes well beyond its $516M Protection Fund and 191% Proof of Reserves. With monthly Merkle Tree audits verifying full asset backing and ISO 27001:2022 certification reinforcing best-in-class protocols, the platform integrates SSL encryption and an advanced risk control system that actively monitors suspicious activity. This combination of rigorous standards and real-time protection has kept Bitget breach-free since 2018 and contributed to its AAA security rating and helped reinforce user confidence to set a benchmark for transparency across the industry.

Why American Express Stock Flopped on Friday

Sturdy payment card mainstay American Express 's (NYSE: AXP) stock was looking a bit rickety on the last trading day of the week. The company's shares lost more than 3% of their value on Friday following a report in a top financial newspaper regarding the potential defection of an important customer base. By comparison, the S&P 500 index only fell by slightly over 1% that day. Potential instability in stability That morning, The Wall Street Journal published an article stating that some of the largest American retailers are considering how to use stablecoins in their businesses. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies that are pegged to a fiat currency, such as the dollar, and typically buttressed by cash or relatively liquid securities. Citing unidentified "people familiar with the matter," the newspaper wrote that influential companies in the sector, such as Walmart and Amazon, are even considering whether to issue their own stablecoins. The Journal also flagged sprawling online travel agency Expedia Group as a business exploring such an option. The attraction of payment instruments like stablecoins is that, if implemented well, they could save retailers vast amounts of money in fees. A key source of revenue for card payment companies is the small charges they impose on merchants accepting their cards, hence the negative AmEx investor reaction to the news. A Genius idea How far such efforts go will depend on the fate of the Genius Act, a proposed law making its way through Congress that would erect a regulatory framework for stablecoins. If it successfully makes it through the legislative process and becomes law in some useful form, stablecoins could indeed become a money-saving instrument convenient for U.S. retailers and their customers. Coca-Cola Flexes Marketing Muscle: Will This Drive Global Share Gains?

The Coca-Cola Company KO is intensifying its global marketing playbook to deepen consumer engagement and drive sustained market share gains. With consumer preferences shifting rapidly, Coca-Cola is channeling significant investment into localized campaigns, digital storytelling, and sports sponsorships to remain top of mind. From reviving the iconic 'Share a Coke' campaign to launching tailored activations like 'Everyday Tasty Celebrations' and the Fanta-Xbox partnership, the company is embracing a digital-first strategy. Studio X, its in-house content engine, is enabling the rapid creation of data-driven, personalized marketing content, amplified through social media, live experiences, and connected packaging. These efforts are elevating brand relevance and reinforcing Coca-Cola's diverse beverage portfolio worldwide. This aggressive marketing strategy is especially vital as Coca-Cola navigates macroeconomic uncertainty and shifting consumer sentiment. With first-quarter 2025 volume growth across all categories and standout performances in Asia-Pacific and Africa, Coca-Cola is demonstrating marketing-led resilience. In markets like Mexico and parts of Europe, affordability-led campaigns and a 'Made Local' narrative are helping counter geopolitical pressures and strengthen brand loyalty. The company's refreshed marketing model blends digital, live, and in-store touchpoints to build stronger, more personalized consumer connections. This approach has already delivered tangible results, with Trademark Coca-Cola adding $40 billion in retail value in the past three years. By aligning innovation with precision marketing, Coca-Cola is fueling top-line growth even in a dynamic environment. While elevated marketing investments may weigh on near-term margins, Coca-Cola's proven ability to build emotional resonance and sustain global visibility continues to drive pricing power and consumer loyalty. As KO flexes its marketing muscle, it is positioning itself to outpace global peers and build enduring brand equity for the long term. Are KO's Competitors Catching Up? PepsiCo Inc. PEP and Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. KDP are the key competitors of Coca-Cola. PepsiCo's marketing strategy continues to play a pivotal role in reinforcing its brand equity and expanding market share across beverages and snacks. PEP is leaning into digital-first campaigns, influencer collaborations, and high-profile sponsorships like the UEFA Champions League to boost cultural relevance and reach younger, diverse consumers. These efforts, combined with innovation in zero-sugar products and a growing direct-to-consumer presence, are helping PepsiCo stay competitive in an evolving marketplace. In many ways, PEP's marketing approach mirrors KO's—fusing global scale with local insights and investing in personalization and digital engagement to fend off competition and grow wallet share. Keurig Dr Pepper's marketing strategy is focused on portfolio diversification, brand partnerships, and targeted digital engagement to drive growth and gain market share in a competitive beverage landscape. While it does not match Coca-Cola's global scale, KDP is leveraging data-driven marketing and strong retail execution to expand its presence, particularly in North America. The company's investments in emerging brands, health-forward offerings, and influencer-led campaigns reflect a shift toward consumer-centric, agile marketing, similar in spirit to Coca-Cola's localized and digital-first approach. KDP's focused strategy is helping it carve out a space, especially in categories like ready-to-drink coffee, flavored water, and premium sodas, where it is less directly constrained by Coca-Cola's core dominance. The Zacks Rundown for Coca-Cola KO shares have rallied 16.1% year to date compared with the industry 's growth of 7.8%. From a valuation standpoint, KO trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 23.51X, significantly higher than the industry's 18.72X. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for KO's 2025 and 2026 earnings implies year-over-year growth of 2.8% and 8.2%, respectively. Earnings estimates for 2025 have been unchanged in the past 30 days, whereas that for 2026 have been northbound in the same period. Coca-Cola currently carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy). Shaquille O'Neal to pay US$1.8 million to settle FTX class action lawsuit

Former NBA player Shaquille O'Neal will pay US$1.8 million to settle a class action lawsuit related to the demise of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. O'Neal, and other celebrities like Tom Brady and Stephen Curry, were named in the lawsuit in 2022. They had been accused of touting FTX as a reputable and trustworthy investment option via paid endorsements. The proposed settlement only pertains to O'Neal. Three years ago FTX was the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange, but it ended up with billions of dollars worth of losses and had to seek bankruptcy protection. The Bahamas-based company and its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, came under investigation by state and federal authorities for allegedly investing depositors funds in ventures without their approval. Before its failure, FTX was known to use high-profile Hollywood and sports celebrities to promote its products. It had the naming rights to a Formula One racing team as well as a sports arena in Miami. Its commercials featured 'Seinfeld' creator Larry David, as well as Brady, the former quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, basketball players O'Neal and Curry, and tennis star Naomi Osaka. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024. A little more than a month after that, FTX said in a court filing that nearly all of its customers would receive the money back that they were owed. While the proposed settlement with O'Neal had been agreed to in April, the payment amount and other terms were disclosed in a filing with the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, Miami Division, earlier this week. The settlement class includes anyone who deposited funds into FTX or bought its FTT token between May 2019 and late 2022. The agreement, which still needs court approval, would provide O'Neal with a broad release from future claims and also includes a stipulation that he can't seek reimbursement from the FTX estate. The payment will be made within 30 days of the settlement being finalized, according to the filing. Michelle Chapman, The Associated Press
