"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Reboot Pilot Casts Ryan Kiera Armstrong in Titular Role

Yara Sameh "In every generation, there is a chosen one', — so says the opening narration in early episodes of the classic cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot pilot at Hulu has found its new slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Armstrong has been cast in a lead role in the pilot opposite returning star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The pilot was originally announced at Hulu back in February. While the exact plot details are under wraps, sources previously said the pilot will focus on a new slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role as Buffy. 'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' Gellar said in a statement. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.' Gellar also shared a video on Instagram in which she tells Armstrong she got the lead role. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar executive produces, along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce via Suite B, while Dolly Parton will executive produce via Sandollar. 'We are so overjoyed to have found this generation's slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one,' the Zuckermans said. Armstrong most recently appeared in the Disney+ 'Star Wars' series 'Skeleton Crew.' Her other TV credits include 'Anne with an E' at Netflix, 'American Horror Story,' and the upcoming FX series 'The Lowdown.' In film, she led the 'Firestarter' reboot opposite Zac Efron and has also starred in big budget films like 'The Tomorrow War' and Marvel's 'Black Widow.' Armstrong first broke out in the feature adaptation of 'The Art of Racing in the Rain.' 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' originated as a film starring Kristy Swanson in the title role. Whedon wrote the film with Fran Kuzui directing. It was released in 1992. Five years later, the series version starring Gellar debuted on The WB. It would air on The WB for its first five seasons before airing its final two seasons on UPN. The cast also included Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, Seth Green, and James Marsters among others. Boreanaz would then head up the spinoff series 'Angel' at The WB for five seasons. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War

Yara Sameh 20th Century Studios has finally unveiled the first look at 'Predator: Badlands,' the sixth installment in the beloved action sci-fi franchise. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the film stars Elle Fanning as two twin sisters. Trachtenberg previously directed 'Prey,' the last installment in the 'Predator' film series. 'Prey' was released exclusively on Hulu and went on to score four nominations at the 2024 Emmys. It would take home the win for outstanding sound editing. The filmmaker's other directorial bouts include films like '10 Cloverfield Lane,' and shows such as 'The Lost Symbol,' 'The Boys,' 'Black Mirror,' and 'BlackBoxTV.' Fanning recently starred as Russian monarch Cathrine the Great in three seasons of Hulu's 'The Great' and starred opposite Timothée Chalamet as Sylvie Russo in James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown.' Some of her former credits include 'Super 8,' 'Maleficent,' 'Trumbo,' 'The Boxtrolls,' 'The Neon Demon' and 'B'Twixt Now and Sunrise.' The original 'Predator,' directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers, was released in 1987. The film was produced for $15 million ($41 million after inflation) and grossed just under $100 million (about $300 million after inflation) at the global box office.
