Government efforts continue to secure gas supplies for power, industry during summer
His remarks came during a visit to the main control centre of the national natural gas grid, the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre (NATA), operated by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO) in New Cairo, where he reviewed the operational status of gas pumping across the national grid. Badawi also checked the efficiency of operations and gas flow from local production sources as well as through the three regasification vessels currently stationed at the SUMED and Sonker terminals in Ain Sokhna.
The Minister noted the successful securing of fuel and gas for the power sector during the recent heatwave, attributing it to the ministry's proactive contingency plans and emergency response strategies. He stressed the importance of ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, supported by joint teams working around the clock to assess the sector's evolving gas requirements and ensure timely LNG imports.
Badawi concluded by emphasising that the state remains committed to sustaining local fuel and gas supplies to maintain energy system stability, in line with broader economic development objectives.

Egyptian Petroleum Minister inspects ‘Energos Force' FSRU in Jordan
Egypt's Petroleum Minister has inspected the start of operational trials for a new floating gas terminal in Jordan's port of Aqaba, a facility set to secure energy supplies for both countries by feeding imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the shared Arab Gas Pipeline, the ministry said. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Minister Karim Badawi and his Jordanian counterpart, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, toured the 'Energos Force' floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which arrived in Aqaba earlier this month. The vessel will receive imported LNG shipments, convert the liquid fuel back into gas, and pump it into the Arab Gas Pipeline to meet consumption needs in both countries and respond effectively to any emergencies. 'The 'Energos Force' FSRU will have a positive impact on securing gas supplies for various sectors in both Egypt and Jordan,' Badawy said in the statement. 'The vessel has a capacity of about 750 million cubic feet per day, and the necessary quantities will be determined according to the actual needs of the two countries.' Badawy stressed the importance of joint cooperation in the natural gas sector, highlighting the integration achieved through the Arab Gas Pipeline and the utilisation of infrastructure in both countries, such as ports and FSRUs. He noted that the cooperation reflects the strong bilateral relations supported by the political leadership of both nations. The Jordanian energy minister, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, said the FSRU has a strategic dimension and is an extension of the close cooperation between the two countries, especially in natural gas. The two ministers also visited a gas compressor station and the main control centre for the Arab Gas Pipeline in Aqaba, where they were briefed on the facility's operations and control systems. The statement noted the continuous coordination and cooperation between the control centre in Aqaba and the national gas grid's main control centre in Cairo to ensure operational efficiency in both countries.

Energean's floating regasification unit arrives at Aqaba Port: Petroleum Ministry
Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Saturday the arrival of the floating regasification unit 'Energean Force' at Jordan's Aqaba Port, ahead of its planned connection to the Arab Gas Pipeline and entry into service. The unit will regasify liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments according to operational requirements and the national gas grid's load conditions. In an official statement, the ministry explained that this step aligns with the first pillar of its strategy to boost production and secure the country's energy needs. It forms part of an integrated and proactive plan to diversify natural gas input sources to the national grid, enhancing the sector's capacity to meet local demand and providing greater flexibility in operational planning. The ministry further noted that the arrival of the 'Energean Force' underscores the depth of energy cooperation between Egypt and Jordan, highlighting the shared use of existing infrastructure to advance regional integration. Previously, the state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) had signed an agreement to deploy the floating regasification unit as part of a comprehensive system designed to ensure reliable gas supply to the domestic market and vital sectors, including electricity generation and industry. The agreement also seeks to diversify gas inputs to the national network, enhancing resilience and the ability to respond swiftly to emergencies or unexpected developments. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous development of Egypt's gas infrastructure and to strengthening Arab energy cooperation, with the ultimate aim of bolstering national energy security and meeting the needs of citizens and key economic sectors across the country.
