Ole, Ole, Ole! Kaizer Chiefs' reserve team are the champions of the PSL reserve team – the DStv Diski Challenge – for the first time in 10 years.
Chiefs achieved this milestone with a game to spare after beating Magesi FC 3-0 at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Saturday.
Coach Vela Khumalo's team had been leading the standings for some time this season, and they got a huge boost in their aspirations on Friday.
The PSL DC ruled that they must be awarded three points and 3-0 win over Chippa United after the Chilli Boys failed to pitch for their clash on February 1.
That verdict ensured that they went into their game against Magesi with 64 points, four ahead of the second-placed outgoing champions Stellenbosch FC.
Chiefs will feel vindicated for the triumph as Khumalo and his team have shown that they are able to nurture depth for the first team, while grinding results.
Amakhosi's sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to congratulate the young lads.
'Could not be more proud. Congratulations Kaizer Chiefs for a smart, passion filled and hard fought DDC league campaign,' Motaung wrote on his timeline.
'Your spirit has brought glory and pride to the Amakhosi Nation. Great way to celebrate 10 years of DDC reserve team football.'

With all their flaws this season, the first team have benefited from the fruits of the reserves, given the impact of the graduates from the youth academy.
Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala are now setting top-flight football alight in the first team after being promoted recently.
The success of Khumalo will bring a positive vibe around the club given that the first team has endured a rollercoaster ride this season across all competitions.
Chiefs' top-eight finish is not yet confirmed as they need to secure a whopping number of points in their remaining Premiership matches, having lost 2-1 Marumo Gallants on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium.

Rassie Erasmus picks Varsity Cup star among Bok rookies
Winger Ntokozo Makhaza is one of nine uncapped players in a 54-man Springbok squad named by Rassie Erasmus for the start of the world champions' 2025 season. The Boks face the Barbarians at Cape Town Stadium on June 28, followed by three Tests – against Italy (in Pretoria and Gqeberha on July 5 and 12) and Georgia (in Mbombela, July 9). The squad, which was confirmed today, includes 31 world cup winners and consists of 30 forwards and 24 backs. Makhaza, who helped the UCT Ikeys win the 2025 Varsity Cup in April, is in line to represent the Boks for the first time with Marnus van der Merwe, Neethling Fouche, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Cobus Wiese, Renzo du Plessis, Vincent Tshituka, Juarno Augustus and Ethan Hooker. While Fouche and Hooker were members of the Springbok training squad last season, Tshituka and Augustus had a taste of the senior international structures after being included in the Springbok Showdown Green and Gold squads in 2020. With the Vodacom Bulls, Sharks and Leinster still in the race for the URC final, along with their teammates from Bath, Leicester Tigers and Sale Sharks, who will contest the Premiership semi-finals this week, a staggered approach will be adopted to those players joining the camp. MORE: Baa Baas get 170-cap boost for Bok clash The available players, which include the full Japan-based contingent following the conclusion of their season, will assemble in Johannesburg on Sunday and begin their on-field preparations on Monday. The rest of the players will join the squad as they complete their club commitments. Five players, meanwhile, were not considered for selection due to injuries: Frans Malherbe, Elrigh Louw, Ben-Jason Dixon, Deon Fourie and Trevor Nyakane. 'We used a total of 50 players last season to balance the load on them, while at the same time building towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, and with a few more talented youngsters in this group, we hope that they will learn valuable lessons and stake a strong claim for places in what will be a challenging, yet exciting season,' said Erasmus. The squad will train from Monday to Friday, before returning home for the weekend to spend time with their families, and will reassemble on Sunday, 15 June for the second week of training, before travelling to Cape Town for the Barbarians match. Full Springbok Squad: Forwards: Cameron Hanekom, Wilco Louw, Ruan Nortje, Gerhard Steenekamp, Marco van Staden, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Cobus Wiese (all Bulls), Eben Etzebeth, Vincent Koch, Siya Kolisi, Ntuthuko Mchunu, Ox Nche, Vincent Tshituka (Sharks), Neethling Fouche, Salmaan Moerat (Stormers), Renzo du Plessis, Asenathi Ntlabakanye (Lions), Juarno Augustus (Northampton Saints), Jean-Luc du Preez (Sale Sharks), Pieter-Steph du Toit (Toyota Verblitz), Thomas du Toit (Bath), Lood de Jager (Wild Knights), Jean Kleyn (Munster), Malcolm Marx (Kubota Spears), Franco Mostert (Honda Heat), Kwagga Smith (Shizuoka Blue Revs), RG Snyman (Leinster), Marnus van der Merwe (Scarlets), Jasper Wiese (Urayasu D-Rocks). Orlando Pirates eyeing highly-rated youngster amid Saleng saga!
Orlando Pirates have already made themselves busy ahead of the upcoming offseason window, and it seems the next player in their sights is Zimbabwean 16-year-old Prince Ndlovu. 'He (Ndlovu) trained with Pirates in March 2023 and and at that time he was only 16-years-old. He was preparing to go to Europe but things didn't work out,' a source revealed. 'It's believed that since then Pirates scouts have apparently been monitoring him and now they are willing to give him a chance at the team. They have kept tabs on him and they are impressed by his progress at Highlanders FC in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.' Monnapule Saleng's future at Orlando Pirates seems to have passed the point of no return following nearly six months on the sideline amid salary demands that club refused to meet. The latest news on the winger's future points to a shock move to Kaizer Chiefs, with whom he has reportedly signed a pre-contract with, however, this is yet to be confirmed. Sowetan legend Benedict Vilakazi doesn't approve of this move for the 27-year-old, saying, 'Is he (Saleng) that type of a player that can really play for Chiefs, the way they are playing? I don't think so.' 'An example, look at (Gaston) Sirino [at Kaizer Chiefs], he's no more the Sirino we knew at Sundowns, because of the type of players surrounding him.' 'What's happening to Sirino now, is the same thing that happened to Khama Billiat. The same thing that happened to Keagan Dolly and now it's happening to Sirino, you cannot have Sirino alone and not have other good players surrounding him.' 'Obviously he's going to have a lot on his shoulders. So, he needs support. So even if Saleng goes and plays for Kaizer Chiefs, he's going to struggle like Sirino is struggling, because there's no core at Chiefs that is very strong, that when everyone comes in (they fit in) like puzzles. Those pazzles at Chiefs are scattered.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Determined Bafana Bafana vow to bounce back after COSAFA Cup defeat
Vuyo Letlapa of South Africa challenged by Antonio Sumbane of Mozambique during the 2025 HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup match at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday. | BackpagePix 'This is not the best way to start the tournament," said Khumalo. "Performance-wise, I thought we played well. We played the way we wanted to play. One will then say what needs to be improved on, going back to the training sessions and how we convert our chances.' Bafana Bafana coach Vela Khumalo could not contain his disappointment following the defeat on the opening day of the regional tournament. The South Africans were left to grapple with their initial disappointment, and their coach, Vela Khumalo, voiced his discontent with the outcome. Mozambique midfielder Antonio Sumbane capitalised on a defensive error in the 73rd minute and scored the goal that ultimately cost the home side the match. The aspirations of Bafana Bafana for the 2025 COSAFA Cup suffered a setback following defeat in their tournament opener, losing 1-0 to Mozambique at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday. The South African side showed promise, particularly in the first half, where they made numerous entries into the striking zone but failed to capitalise on potential scoring opportunities. 'We were rushing things when we got into the box,' Khumalo added, hinting at a sense of urgency that may have undermined their of the second half, Khumalo and the technical coaching staff made it clear to the players that they needed to refine their approach. 'We spoke to the players about this and made the team aware of it. We even made the team aware that the only way Mozambique could score was if they got us on transition, which is exactly what they did,' he explained, alluding to the tactics that resulted in the lone goal by Mozambique. For Khumalo, the crux of the matter lies in maintaining tactical discipline and capitalising on opportunities. 'You know, when you are a possession-based team, you get carried away with the moment. We need to concentrate more, tactically be disciplined and convert our chances," he said. The coach pointed out that South Africa had created enough chances to secure a victory, yet were unable to find the back of the net. It is an issue that underscored a troubling pattern he had previously encountered. 'This sounds like déjà vu because when I was with the SA Under-17s, we suffered the same thing of not scoring goals.' Despite the loss, Khumalo remains hopeful. 'Performance-wise, we will go far, never mind this setback. When we go back to what we wanted to achieve in the tournament, it was not to concede a goal, but unfortunately, we did. We must go back and work on our finishing,' he reflected. Khumalo also touched on the use of the Video Assistant Referee, suggesting its merits while criticising the prolonged decision-making that can disrupt the flow of the game. 'VAR is a good thing because it is where the world is going. But I think the officials are taking too long to make decisions, and that kills the momentum of the game,' he noted, highlighting an area that players and fans alike may wish to see improved. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was used from game one for the first time in this competition, and the first time on the African continent for a regional competition. As South Africa regroups, they have a sense of urgency and hope. The lessons learned from this loss could prove vital in reclaiming their momentum in the fiercely contested COSAFA Cup.
