Willie Mullins enters simply staggering number of superstars for Sandown showdown with Dan Skelton

The Sun22-04-2025

WILLIE MULLINS has entered a simply staggering number of superstars for his Sandown showdown with Dan Skelton.
The legendary Irish trainer is going all out in his bid to land a second straight British jumps trainer title.
1
Skelton, who has never won the crown before and was pipped by Mullins last season, is just £27,878.44 ahead in the standings.
But Mullins will be looking to turn that around and then some at the blockbuster jumps finale.
Mullins has entered a massive 38 runners for the seven-race card, the highlight of which is the bet365 Gold Cup, worth a shade under £100,000 to the winner.
He won it last year with Minella Cocooner and he is entered again, along with current 6-1 High Class Hero.
While multiple Grade 1 winner Dancing City - who is being backed into 8-1 - and Scottish Grand National winner Captain Cody complete the top three in the betting.
The classy Impaire Et Passe is a 16-1 chance too in a race where Mullins could also have Grangeclare West, Quai De Bourbon, Lombron, Olympic Man, O'Moore Park, Spanish Harlem, Paggane, Chosen Witness, A Penny A Hundred, Judicieuse Allen and Klarc Kent.
The Galacticos don't stop there.
In the Grade 2 Oaksey Chase Mullins has put Appreciate It, Blue Lord, Classic Getaway, El Fabiolo, Gaelic Warrior and Gentleman De Mee in the mix.
While Il Etait Temps could make his return after almost a year off after being entered too.
Jonbon has made the Celebration Chase his own for trainer Nicky Henderson - whose No1 jockey Nico de Boinville was in hospital on Easter Monday after a dreadful fall at Plumpton.
But Mullins is looking to take him on with the likes of the doubly-entered Gaelic Warrior, Energumene, Il Etait Temps and Impaire Et Passe.
El Fabiolo is an intriguing entry in the Grade 2 bet365 Select Hurdle, where Mullins could also be represented by Jade De Grugy, Kitzbuhel and… Lossiemouth.
Rich Ricci's monstrous mare could be racing against her namesake, with Polly Gundry's ten-year-old gelding Lossiemouth also entered.
The potential runners don't stop there, either, with Mullins throwing the kitchen sink at the final two races.
You won't find Mullins have too many winners in Class 2 handicap chases but he has entered Chosen Witness, Lombron, O'Moore Park and Paggane in the 4.45.
While the final race on the card, which could decide the whole title race, is set to feature the likes of Bunting, Dr Eggman, Jump Allen and King Alexander.
Mullins isn't one prone to exaggeration and quizzed on his colossal number of entries, he quipped: "Is that all?"
Bookies make Mullins 2-11 to win a second title in a row with Skelton out to 7-2.
Coral's David Stevens said: "Although Dan outscored Willie in prize money terms at Plumpton, the latter got a winner on the board in the finale at the Sussex track, and more importantly, has made a host of top class entries for Sandown next Saturday, a day that is sure to be crucial in deciding the outcome of this title race."

David Harbour explains his dating preference after Lily Allen split

David Harbour has explained why he doesn't date 'normal people' out of the spotlight as he splits from singer Lily Allen. The Thunderbolts actor, 50, married British singer Lily in 2020 after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya. The pair has split in recent months, but both have remained quiet about the details of their separation. Now, the actor has spoken about the common pitfalls of dating, revealing that there are additional challenges as a celebrity. Speaking to Scarlett Johansson for Interview Magazine, the actor compared his experience to a scene in the new Apple TV series, The Studio. 'They just did an episode where Seth Rogen is the head of a studio and he's dating an oncologist. They go to an event together, and she's like, 'Oh my god, it's so sweet what you do with movies.' He's like, 'Hey, you cure cancer. But once the cancer's cured, people go to the movies and find meaning.' The other doctors start making fun of him and he kind of loses it. 'There's something about that ideology with normal people.' He explained that although he tried to date people who weren't in the entertainment industry when he was young, he finds it challenging. 'I tried to date lawyers and business people in my twenties, but there's something about being a carny freak that normal people don't get.' In late 2024, it was revealed that David and Lily had broken up. Soon after, it emerged he had been back on dating apps while they were still together. It was then claimed he'd also been in a three-year-long secret relationship with a costume designer he met on the set of one of his movies. In February 2025, David then appeared to go public with an aspiring actress and model 22 years his junior. MailOnline reported that Harbour is dating Ellie Fallon, an aspiring model and actress, 22 years younger than him. The couple reportedly met in Atlanta, where Stranger Things season five is being filmed, and they went on a trip to India together around New Year. Lily has been open with her fans that she has been looking after herself after struggling recently. In January, she checked herself into a trauma treatment centre near her US home. A source told MailOnline at the time: 'It was very painful for Lily to return home. David used to be her saviour, and now he's a trigger for her. 'Lily settled her kids back into the family home and took them to school for their new term, then flew herself straight to rehab. 'She went a day earlier than intended as she felt wobbly and desperate to escape.' More Trending At the time, she took a break from her podcast Miss Me? with Miquita Oliver, telling her fans in her last episode before her break that she wasn't 'in a good place'. 'I'm just so … I'm really not in a good place,' she said. 'I know I've been talking about it for months, but I've been spiralling and spiralling and spiralling, and it's got out of control.' 'I just can't concentrate on anything except the pain that I'm going through. 'It's really, really hard. I'm going away next week. You're not gonna hear me for a few weeks, listeners.' Got a story? Anthony Joshua could retire from boxing sooner than anyone imagined

The British star has not fought since suffering a brutal knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois - and his promoter believes the two-time champion is entering his last year as a professional Anthony Joshua could be heading into the final year of his career - with Eddie Hearn targeting TWO Tyson Fury fights before his star client calls it a day. Joshua has not fought since he was brutally knocked out by Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium. It seemed likely the pair would go head-to-head in an immediate rematch. However, after coming away from the first contest with a few minor injuries, it meant the 35-year-old was unable to jump straight back into a sequel. ‌ The two-time heavyweight world champion is currently recovering from an elbow surgery and is plotting a return to action before the end of the year. As of yet, though, there is no front-runner regarding his next opponent. Joshua's promoter, Hearn, revealed a comeback fight is being targeted between October-December - with Dillian Whyte initially being their first choice of opponent. ‌ However, the boxing veteran now looks set to fight undefeated rising star Moses Itauma on August 16 in Saudi Arabia. With Joshua entering his twilight years, Hearn has opened up on the Brit's future. Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, he said: "Dillian Whyte was probably the frontrunner, to be honest with you. Now it looks like he's going to fight Moses - so that was a curveball. READ MORE: Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford make same vow as fight announced "Jared Anderson's been mentioned, obviously Deontay Wilder's back soon. I think AJ would have been out the ring just over a year by the time he steps back into the ring. He will be coming off surgery, I don't think (Tyson) Fury's going to be ready to fight around that time anyway. But I expect it to be someone to gear him up for a really big fight in 2026. And probably, 2026 will be his last year in the sport." Despite their respective careers being at a crossroads, Hearn insists Joshua vs Wilder is still a big fight. The 'Bronze Bomber' has not fought since suffering a knockout defeat to Zhilei Zhang last summer but is set to make a return to action later this month against Tyrrell Herndon "AJ-Wilder's a massive fight as well and I think because of the loss to Dubois, it makes the fight more palatable," said Hearn. "Especially if Wilder can come back with a good win." That said, there is one fight Hearn would love to see above all. The boxing promoter is still holding out hope that Fury will make a retirement U-turn and fight Joshua. The 'Gypsy King' announced his shock retirement from the sport earlier this year. That said, he has been teasing a return over the last few weeks. "It's probably three fights away. For me, if I'm advising AJ, we're back this year, we have two Tyson Fury fights, what else is there to do? Maybe fight a Daniel Dubois, but for me once AJ fights Tyson Fury, he's kind of done it all. I'd love him to have another crack at Daniel Dubois and I'd love him to have another crack at Usyk but you just keep going on and on and on. Now, if we get to next year and he's still firing on all cylinders then 2026 won't be his last year. But for me, something feels right about coming back this year, beating Tyson Fury twice and then sailing off into the sunset."

If Shakira could convince a boy to split from his partner she'd be saved. When Maya Jama returned to the villa, three lads said they were willing to leave their couple and stood up for Shakira. Harry, Conor and Blu all threw their hat in the ring. But Conor, Helena's partner, and Blu, who is in a couple up with Alima, had to awkwardly sit back down. Taking to X, one viewer said: "It must be so awkward to have stood up and not get chosen… the second hand embarrassment is crazy." A second echoed: "Imagine having to sit back down next to the girl u just publicly said you'd dump after not getting chosen pmsl." And a third said: "No because the thought of the boys that don't get picked having to sit back down acting like nothing has happened." Love Island fans name show's real villain branding them 'rotten to the core' - blonde Meg during the divided girls chat The ITV2 show beauties were left worried last night when Shakira confessed she was interested in "everyone". Shakira, 22, ruffled feathers with her antics. She pulled Dejon - who is coupled up with Meg - for a chat first. Shakira then wasted no time and asked Harry for a chat on the terrace and things quickly turned flirty. Shakira teases: 'Haza you little minx!' Harry then replies: 'It's day two come on let's keep it PG.' Putting the effort in to find a new connection, Shakira then pulled Conor for a chat and he told her: 'You surprised me, you came in with massive energy, but I feel like you're not like that, you're chill and smart.' Shakira admitted: 'I love the Irish accent, it's sexy! I've never dated an Irish guy.' She also caught up with Blu telling him: 'I think it's good cause it gives everyone a kick up the bum…I think you've got a good vibe…you're very calming and I don't have to put on a bravado.' Their flirty banter came after fans had called for the lad to be kicked out - and his partner saved. Shakira's effort didn't stop there as she also pulled Tommy by the pool telling him: 'I think it's best I try to get to know everyone.'
