New Delhi: The director general of health services (DGHS), Delhi, has been appointed to manage and implement the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and Ayushman Arogya Mandir programmes under the National Health Mission (NHM) in the capital.
A senior official said the move aims to improve the efficiency and execution of these key health initiatives, ensuring they meet their objectives. The DGHS will oversee planning, implementation, and monitoring, coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure smooth and effective delivery.
An official order, issued on Wednesday, May 21 by the special secretary (health and family welfare), stated: "In compliance with the implementation requirements of PM-ABHIM and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under NHM, DGHS shall be overall in charge for management and execution of programme components in Delhi.
The DGHS will ensure the availability of human resources, drugs, diagnostics, equipment, logistics, training, infrastructure, etc.
, as per Indian Public Health Standards guidelines."
The order also designated all district medical officers (DMOs) as nodal officers for Ayushman Arogya Mandirs—including sub-centres and primary health centres (PHC)—in their respective districts.
Officials explained that Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) comprises two components: SCs and PHCs. Sub-centres function under PM-ABHIM, launched in 2021-22 with consolidated funding until 2026. Based on Delhi's population, the city requires 1,139 sub-centres.
PHCs fall under the NHM, funded through a 60:40 cost-sharing model between the Centre and the state govt. Delhi requires 400 PHCs, of which 123 have been approved for the current financial year.

NEW DELHI: India has reported 4,302 active COVID-19 cases, with an increase of 864 cases in the past 24 hours, official sources said on Wednesday. A similar drill is scheduled for June 5, they added. 'The public is advised to practice hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and avoid crowded places when unwell. Individuals with acute respiratory illness should self-monitor and seek medical care if symptoms worsen,' officials said.

Tiruchy MGMGH resumes bypass surgeries after three-year break
TIRUCHY: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) has resumed performing cardiac bypass surgeries, which were suspended since 2022. According to hospital sources, a triple vessel coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery was performed on a 55-year-old patient from Kumbakonam last Thursday. A multidisciplinary team led by cardiac surgeon Dr Ashwini performed the surgery, under the supervision of Dean Dr S Kumaravel. The surgery was performed under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). The patient was discharged on June 4. Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Dean Dr. Kumaravel said, 'We were not able to perform such procedures earlier due to shortage of cardiothoracic surgeons and limitations in policy. But now, with support under the National Health Mission (NHM) and formalised MoUs, we will be operating on all patients who require bypass surgery here.'

Covid cases: Health ministry asks states to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators
New Delhi: All states have been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in view of rising cases of Covid, official sources said on Wednesday. A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma. The meeting was held with representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and central government hospitals in Delhi and with representatives from all states and Union territories to evaluate the current Covid situation and preparedness measures. According to the sources, state and district surveillance units under IDSP are closely monitoring Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI). "Testing is recommended for all admitted SARI cases and 5 per cent of ILI cases as per guidelines and positive SARI samples are sent for Whole Genome Sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network," an official source said.
