Notably, party working president K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao, who previously offered staunch support to Kavitha, even travelling to Delhi during her arrest in the Delhi Government liquor case, have remained surprisingly silent. Conversely, the Congress party has, unpredictably, extended support to Kavitha. Comments made by Teenmar Mallanna (Chintapandu Naveen) against Kavitha triggered Telangana Jagruthi activists, who subsequently attacked the office of the channel run by the Congress MLC. Complaints have been filed against Jagruthi leaders for the assault. In this episode, it took more than 24 hours for the BRS party to issue a response, and that too in the form of a press release by the Leader of Opposition in the Council, S Madhusudhana Chary.
However, there has been no reaction from senior leaders like K T Rama Rao or Harish Rao, who frequently use X to express their opinions. Similarly, there has been no widespread outrage from the BRS cadre. In a contrasting incident, when a Telugu news channel aired reports about the party's working president with fake thumbnails, the BRS student's wing reportedly attacked the office, but no such organised attempt was seen from party leaders in Kavitha's defence.
A day prior, BRS leaders K T Rama Rao and Harish Rao were summoned by party supremo K Chandrashekar Rao. It was anticipated that the party leaders would issue a statement on the Mallanna episode, but according to sources, no reference was made.
The perceived rift began with the Jagruthi president Kavitha writing a five-page letter to her father, K Chandrashekar Rao, in which she questioned the party president on numerous issues. After returning from America, she stated there were 'demons' around K Chandrashekar Rao, hinting at internal differences. Following Kavitha's comments, K T Rama Rao told reporters that there were 'coverts of Revanth Reddy' within the party. After this incident, the BRS chief reportedly sent an emissary to meet Kavitha to resolve the differences, which temporarily halted speculations about internal discord. However, the Mallanna episode has once again brought this issue to the forefront.
The BRS cadre has also been noticeably absent from calls issued by Kavitha. Party leaders skipped a dharna organised against a notice given to K Chandrashekar Rao. More recently, Telangana Jagruthi organised celebrations after the Congress government announced an ordinance to provide 42 per cent reservations to Backward Classes in local body elections, but no BRS leaders or activists were present at these celebrations.
The unexpected comments from both BRS and Congress leaders have caused confusion among Kavitha's followers. Congress leaders, including PCC Chief Mahesh Goud and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, objected to the comments made by Mallanna against Kavitha, affirming that Congress respects women. Apart from Madhusudhana Chary, BRS LB Nagar MLA D Sudheer Reddy condemned Mallanna's comments but also found fault with Jagruthi leaders for attacking the office, stating that attacks were not the solution in a democracy.

35 Lakh Bihar Voters' Names On Exclusion List, Poll Body To Share Data
As the July 25 deadline draws close for submission of enumeration forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, the Election Commission of India has revealed that around 35.6 lakh voters may face exclusion from the final list. Despite conducting three rounds of field verification, the Commission reported that 4.5 per cent of electors -- 35.69 lakh individuals -- were not found at their registered addresses. Of them, 12.5 lakh have been found to have died, 17.5 lakh have permanently migrated, and 5.5 lakh are enrolled in multiple locations, prompting concerns of duplication and ineligibility. While the Commission has received 88.6 per cent enumeration forms so far, around 54 lakh of Bihar's 7.89 crore voters are yet to submit their forms. Currently, only 6.85 per cent voters remain to complete the process and the Commission has urged them to do so by the deadline to avoid being left out. EC To Share "Not Found" Voter Data With Parties In a key step toward transparency and accountability, the Commission has announced that starting July 17, it will begin sharing the names and details of 35.6 lakh voters with recognised political parties. This will allow the parties to examine the list and help verify the status of the voters before any name is officially deleted from the roll. Political parties will also be able to raise objections or present supporting documents to ensure that genuine voters are not mistakenly excluded from the list. This initiative is expected to safeguard electoral integrity, transparency and address concerns of arbitrary deletions raised by opposition parties. Foreign Nationals Flagged in Roll During the SIR process, Booth-Level Officers also identified foreign nationals including individuals from Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh who were enrolled in the voter rolls. The EC said these names would be removed after document verification by Electoral Registration Officers. Those affected have the right to appeal first to the District Collector and then to the Chief Electoral Officer by submitting valid proof of citizenship and eligibility. As of now the Commission has not shared the exact number of foreign nationals in Bihar. Political Reactions and Allegations The Special Intensive Revision has sparked political controversy. Today, Congress's Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of deliberately removing the names of the poor, farmers, and Congress supporters from the electoral rolls in Bihar. BJP leader Tom Vadakkan defended the Commission, saying the voters being removed are not Indian citizens but rather "Rohingya and individuals from Myanmar and Bangladesh who have long been part of the Opposition's vote bank". West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also criticised the move, alleging that the BJP has manipulated voter rolls in states like Maharashtra, Delhi, and now Bihar and Bengal. "They deleted 35.5 lakh voters in Bihar. They did the same in Maharashtra and Delhi and won. Now they want to repeat it in West Bengal. We won't allow it," she said. Ms Banerjee vowed to fight back in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, declaring: "We may be injured, but we are united. And we will respond."

Social activist alleges negligence in Rahul Gandhi's security during U.P. court visit, seeks probe
Alleging a complete breakdown of law and order and negligence in the security of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his recent court visit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh-based social activist and former Indian Police Service officer Amitabh Thakur on Wednesday (July 16, 2025) demanded a high-level inquiry and fixing responsibility over the issue. In a letter addressed to the Union Home Minister, the Chief Justice of India and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Thakur said Mr. Gandhi was among the highest threat perception leaders in India and was given Z-plus security by the Home Ministry. On July 15, during his appearance in the MP/MLA Magistrate Court in Lucknow, there was not only a complete breakdown of law and order inside the courtroom but also massive bungling and compromise with his security when security personnel allowed hundreds of persons to enter the courtroom. People were present everywhere around Mr. Gandhi. Even the security failed to maintain the dignity of the court. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Thakur, a former 1992 batch IPS officer, said, 'Two family members of Mr. Gandhi, including his father, have been assassinated due to security lapse. In Lucknow, Mr. Gandhi's security was compromised for more than three hours.' Multiple videos of huge crowd inside the courtroom with Mr. Gandhi and within court premises went viral, with people even taking selfies. The Congress said the authorities should look into the matter. 'I was not present there, but the security of Rahul ji, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is the responsibility of the Home Ministry and the State government. Any breakdown in security is not acceptable,' said Imran Masood, Congress MP. On July 15, Mr. Gandhi appeared before the MP/MLA Special Court in Lucknow in connection with a case of allegedly making a defamatory statement against the Indian Armed Forces during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022. The Congress leader, who surrendered in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma, was granted bail after the court allowed his application.

Power tariff tensions in Chhattisgarh Assembly, Hike calls for adjournment motion, CM Sai cites relief measures
RAIPUR: The third day of the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly witnessed intense debate and sharp exchanges as the Opposition Congress moved an adjournment motion over the recent hike in electricity tariffs. Leader of Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant led the charge, terming the hike as burdensome and unjustified, while Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai defended the increase, calling it one of the lowest in the country and necessary for the state's energy goals. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Mahant criticized the government's 'anti-people' decision to raise tariffs across all consumer categories, including domestic users, farmers, and small businesses. He reminded the House that the recent hike was the second tariff increase in just 20 months since the Sai-led government came to power. 'Nearly six million consumers have been affected. Even farmers are now paying more per unit than industrial units. What kind of govt's priority is this?' Mahant questioned. The July 11 decision by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) allowed the hike based on a petition from the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL). While the Commission is a statutory body that takes decisions post public hearing, the Opposition alleged that the process lacked transparency and scrutiny. Mahant also pointed to what he described as alarming mismanagement in the power sector. 'Over Rs 8,000 crore in dues are unpaid, Rs 2,500 crore by government departments and Rs 5,500 crore in subsidies. To make up for this, common citizens are being punished with higher bills,' he said. He also cited repeated fire incidents at power department godowns in Raigarh, Gudhiyari in Raipur, and Bhilai-3 within the last 20 months, calling them indicators of systemic negligence. 'Even under the RDS scheme, Rs 3,560 crore was sanctioned by the Centre. But if the government doesn't pay its share, the 60% grant will be converted into debt. This is how you plan to develop Chhattisgarh?' he asked. Adding to his criticism, Mahant said that power cuts, low voltage, and erratic supply were frequent, even at ministerial residences. 'What are common citizens supposed to expect?' he asked. CM Responds: 'Hike Minimal, Farmers Protected, Industry Boosted' Responding to the notice of adjournment motion, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai asserted that the hike was modest and transparent. 'Only a 1.89% rise has been approved for 2025–26. That's among the lowest in the country. For farmers, the 50 paise per unit increase will have zero impact as their bills are already subsidized and paid in advance by the government,' Sai clarified. He added that domestic consumers will see a mere 10 to 20 paise rise per unit, and that rates for energy-intensive industries, including mini steel plants and rolling mills, have been reduced to boost the manufacturing sector. Highlighting infrastructure development, Sai announced that a Rs 15,800 crore project for a 1320 MW power plant in Korba is underway. 'This will make Chhattisgarh power-surplus and ensure reliable supply,' he said. The CM also shared updates on ongoing improvements in supply and efficiency. 'Urban areas are receiving 23.85 hours of electricity per day, rural areas 23.45 hours, and farm feeders 18 hours a day. We have reduced technical and commercial losses from 23.14% to 13.79%, a significant achievement,' he said. He further pointed to over Rs 9,400 crore being invested through a Capital Investment Plan for transmission, distribution, and generation upgrades. Additionally, MoUs worth over Rs 3 lakh crore have been signed to generate employment and enhance energy infrastructure. CM Sai promoted solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, offering households up to Rs 1.09 lakh in combined state and central subsidies for rooftop solar systems. 'We are empowering citizens to become self-reliant energy producers,' he said. Speaker Raman Singh informed the House that adjournment notices were received from 33 members. However, after the CM's assurance and detailed presentation, he disallowed the notice for motion. In a rare move, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mahant thanked the Chief Minister, saying, 'At least it seems the government is taking the matter seriously and CM is looking into it, hence, I am thankful to him.'
