Hawksbill sea turtles nesting season concludes

QNA Doha The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has announced the conclusion of the 2025 nesting season for hawksbill sea turtles in Qatar, which extended from March 31 to the end of July 2025, with 8,213 hatchlings released into their natural habitat. In a statement on Saturday, MoECC said that the Hawksbill Turtle Conservation Project, listed among the critically endangered species, was launched in 2003 in collaboration with QatarEnergy and the Environmental Science Center (ESC) at Qatar University. The statement pointed out that over the past five years, the project had contributed to the release of 60,000-plus hatchlings into Qatar's natural habitat. The current season witnessed the nesting of 219 turtles across eight main sites, namely Fuwairit, Ras Rakan, Ras Laffan, Sharaoua, Umm Tais, Al Ghariya, Al Maroona, and Al Khor, with specialized environmental teams relocating the nests to Fuwairit Beach, which has been designated as a protected turtle nesting site since 2020, the statement read. page 4

Awqaf Ministry lays out ‘Hikaya' program to strengthen Islamic identity in youngsters

QNA Doha The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Dawah and Religious Guidance, launched the summer Dawah program 'Hikaya' devoted to girls and children, which is purposefully directed toward fostering Islamic identity and promoting behavioural and ethical values among youngsters. The program primarily intends to reinforce national Islamic identity and affiliation through staging interactive lectures and workshops overseen by female professionals specialising in religious and pedagogical guidance in a catalysing and secure environment, Awqaf said in a statement on Sunday. 'Hikaya' is laser-focused on narrating the stories of the Prophets and linking them to the doctrine of monotheism, with the intent of strengthening faith in Allah, the Almighty, and trust in Him, in addition to inculcating correct behavioural values in youngsters' hearts to be psychologically ready to navigate the challenges that might potentially arise throughout their forthcoming age periods. Islamic preacher Sheikha Al Jarboui highlighted that the program literally aims to entangle the female participants with the models inspired from Islamic history to be further put out as a source of inspiration that shores up Islamic values and identity. The program is part and parcel of Awqaf's unstinting efforts to invest in summer breaks as a key source to promote values and identity and build a conscious generation confident in its religion and touts its identity.

MoECC launches fish release campaign to boost biodiversity, food security

QNA Doha The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), represented by the Marine Protection Department, and in collaboration with the Natural Reserves Department, has conducted a high-impact environmental operation in the southern region of Qatar, releasing a new stock of native fish species into the protected waters of the Sealine Reserve located in the south of Qatar. In a press release on Saturday, the ministry affirmed that this urgent initiative is part of a broader national strategy aimed at safeguarding marine biodiversity in protected areas, a measure that is fully aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and ensures the long-term sustainability of the nation's natural resources for future generations. The campaign stands as a vital strategic initiative to reinforce Qatar's local fish stockpile, an essential move toward securing national food resilience, which was executed based on rigorous scientific studies conducted by the Aquatic Research Center. It has been confirmed that the natural conditions within the Sealine Reserve are fit for the growth and reproduction of the selected species.
