The 98 Degrees singer and Love is Blind cohost appeared on the What's the Reality? podcast, where he shared his best marriage advice and reflections. Nick recently celebrated his 14th wedding anniversary with his wife, he shared on the podcast.
"I don't think there is a secret," Nick said, referencing their many years together. "I think if it was, you know, it was that easy, I would bottle it and sell it, be a gazillionaire."
Nick said three "paramount" aspects of his relationship with Vanessa has ensured their strength as a couple — though he encouraged listeners to "take everyone's advice with a grain of salt," because every couple is different and needs different things.
He and Vanessa first value communication, he noted — "cliche, but it's very true," he added. The second is trust, which is crucial to any relationship, romantic or otherwise, and the third is respect.
"As long as you respect each other, I think you can get through pretty much anything," Nick said. "So those are the three kind of staples that we try to always lean on, in life and in love."
Nick noted that "you never stop working" at those facets of a relationship, and that it's an ongoing process. He then shared his brother's relationship wisdom, which he's more or less lived by all these years.

"He said, 'My best advice to you guys is don't take other people's advice.' Because, again, what works for one person, one couple, doesn't necessarily work for another," Nick explained. "In a weird, kind of sick way, you've got to enjoy the struggle."
He continued, 'It's part of the journey. It's part of the process. And when you come out on the other side of those struggles, you have this sense of accomplishment, you know, that you figured it out. But you got to kind of figure it out together.'
