Jane Maguire hits Pakistan for six as Ireland claim victory with final ball
The tourists' batting was a level up from Wednesday's 11-run loss in the opener, and a total of 168-6 looked a stern test for the home side.
Orla Prendergast, who had delivered yet another probing spell, that included her 50th T20I wicket, followed up with a classy half-century but when she fell for 51, including two sixes, the Girls in Green still needed another 58 to win from 29 balls.
Laura Delany was ticking along nicely on her way to 42 from 34 balls but it was the innings of her life from Rebecca Stokell that enabled her side to get over line – a mighty 34 not out from 16 balls.
Every ball seemed to find the middle of the Merrion woman's bat and Pakistan's experienced attack had no answer as the most powerful hitter in the Ireland line-up plundered four boundaries and turned ones into twos with hard running.
Nine to win from the final over should have been a formality but with Delany already gone and Stokell taking a single off the first ball, Ava Canning only managed four from the next three and was then bowled, leaving the stage to Maguire.
The Hills bowler shuffled down the pitch to meet a strangely loopy full toss and hit it baseball-style into the sightscreen.
'I'm a bit lost for words,' Stokell said, after receiving her player-of-the-match award. 'We knew what was required when I went in there and with Laura at the other end and going so well I was just looking to build a partnership with her and take the game on. I wanted to step up to the challenge and it came off.'
Skipper Gaby Lewis was full of praise for Delany, who played a crucial foil to both Prendergast and Stokell.
'We all know 'Del' has the shots and her calm head and experience out there is so valuable,' she said.
The Girls in Green have now won nine T20 internationals off the reel, and leading 2-0 with one to play have beaten the higher-ranked team in home-and-away series. Lewis will be keen to complete a clean sweep in the final game at Castle Avenue on Sunday.

Pakistan beat Ireland by eight wickets in last match of victorious T20 series
Muneeba Ali hit an unbeaten century to see her side to a consolation win with 14 balls to spare but the Girls in Green only have themselves to blame as they dropped the opener three times. Choosing to bat, Gaby Lewis got the Ireland innings off to a flyer with 36 from 22 balls before she was sawn off by a poor lbw decision and with Amy Hunter on her way to 29 the home side were well placed on 79-1 at the halfway stage. As is so often the case, the solid platform didn't lead to a score that put the game beyond the opposition — despite Prendergast batting through the last 10 overs — and a total of 155-4 was barely better than par. Take nothing away from Prendergast's 64 not out from 46 balls, with eight fours, but the devastating top gear and acceleration that she has to her game proved elusive for once.. The Pembroke all-rounder remained defiant, though, with a cheeky nod to the progress Ireland are making as she received her award. 'There is still a sense that we 'shock' these higher-ranked reams when we beat them and I'd like to know how many times we have to beat them before it isn't a shock any more,' she said. 'I think we've shown in this series how good a team we are and although we were off the mark today we need more and more games like this.' The 2-1 series win will put Ireland in good heart going into the European qualifiers for the T20 World Cup, which start in Rotterdam on August 21.

Jane Maguire hits Pakistan for six as Ireland claim victory with final ball
Jane Maguire strode to the wicket at Clontarf needing to hit a four from the final ball to beat Pakistan and went two better with a stunning six back over the bowler's head to secure a thrilling four-wicket win for Ireland. All Ireland Final fever grips Donegal as county shows its pride in green and gold
This Donegal team has injected the county with a bolt of excitement and hope that hasn't been felt since that glorious All-Ireland run of 2012. And with just two short weeks to prepare, every corner of the county has exploded with All Ireland fever. Roadsides are drenched in green and gold, flags hang from every gable, bunting criss-crosses town streets, and even the sheep are sprayed for Sam. Murals have been updated, songs have been written, poems recited, and more than a few prayers whispered. In Glenties, the home of Donegal legend Jim McGuinness, cardboard cut outs of the team and backroom staff are hung from every lamp post, while in Letterkenny, the Polestar Roundabout has been illuminated in green and gold. In Buncrana, the latest mural by Tuath Nua caused a stir after locals made their feelings clear; 'Donegal for Sam, Kerry for Butter', while hillsides have been marked with 'Sam for the Hills' in Glengesh. A trio of Donegal men went one step further than anyone else and took themselves off to Kerry and planted Donegal flags in Killarney and the Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence; it was for a good cause and the Kerry supporters seemed to take it in good humour. Even the gardaí got in on the craic with Donegal's Chief Superintendent Goretti Sheridan, presenting Sergeant Maurice Doyle, a Kerry man stationed in Donegal, with a Kerry teacup. And while all roads lead to Croke Park on Sunday, the lads from Red Hughs; Darragh McMenamin, Cathair Browne, Ronan McLaughlin, Cathal McMenamin, Cathal and James Doherty and Tom McMenamin are aiming to get there in style. The young men have turned a Citroen into the 'Jim Mobile' customised in the county colours and featuring Donegal panel members Stephen McMenamin, Jonny Carlin, and Tommy Devine. Unfortunately, there has been an almighty scramble for tickets with just over 13,000 tickets allocated resulting in many fans being left disappointed but thanks to hand working volunteers and sponsors, towns and villages across the county have opted to show the game on the big screen. Family days out are planned in Ballybofey, Donegal Town and Killybegs while every pub, restaurant and home in the county will be watching the game. The craic is set to be mighty. And win or lose, this Donegal team has given the county a summer to remember.
