'We are calling for a job-seeking allowance for unemployed youth of nothing less than R1,500 every month. If you can prove to government that you're a young person and looking for a job, you must be paid because creating employment is the job of the government,' he said.
'It is very expensive to look for a job. You must have money to print CVs and [to pay for] taxi fares to and from interviews. Therefore we want to be paid to look for a job in South Africa.'
The EFF also announced that it was already in full campaign mode for next year's local government elections after suffering losses in the 2024 polls. KZN is one of the provinces where the party lost support, plummeting from 10% to just 2% and reducing its provincial legislature representation. It has also performed poorly in most by-elections, which ultimately led the party to reconfigure its provincial leadership structures last month.
Provincial chairperson Mongezi Twala called the reconfiguration a 'necessary revolutionary correction' and said they didn't see it as punishment but a 'political rescue mission' that embraced discipline.
Malema said the party is moving on from the 2024 losses and looking forward to the next elections.
'We cannot continue to mourn about losing the elections last year. That was a lesson — it belongs in the past [and] we must fight now. Stop giving apologies, provincial chair. It is done and we are now fighting forward. No one can defeat people who are determined to achieve their freedom in their lifetime,' he said.

Sol Phenduka said his suspension is linked to a R2.5M lawsuit, which was launched by media personality Minnie Dlamini. After speculation about the reason for his suspension by Kaya FM, broadcaster Sol Phenduka has broken his silence. 'You know what it's about; it's about the court case with Minnie,' said Phenduka, speaking on MacG's Podcast And Chill, of which he is the co-host, on Thursday. Earlier this month, media personality Minenhle 'Minnie' Dlamini launched a R2.5 million lawsuit against MacGyver 'MacG' Mukwevho and Phenduka. Dlamini accused the Podcast and Chill hosts of hate speech and harassment, and in submitted court papers, Dlamini seeks legal accountability. She is demanding R1 million for herself and an additional R1.5 million to be donated to a women's organisation. 'Kaya 959 confirms that presenter Sol Phenduka has been placed on suspension with immediate effect. This step has been taken pending the outcome of an internal process currently underway,' read a statement shared with The Citizen by Ian Bredenkamp, who handles PR for the station. 'The station is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage.' 'I did nothing, literally,' said Phenduka. 'A lot of people assume I did something… I didn't come to work, or I did something wrong at work, or I was unprofessional,' he said. Phenduka said he was suspended for seven days. 'It's a wrap,' MacG responded, adding that the issue with Dlamini was 'an old story'. 'But when the case happened, then they came through. Remember earlier on I said that guy I beat wrote to 5FM, cause obviously it was gonna be a matter of 'you brought the station into disrepute, etcetera, etcetera',' said Phenduka. 'I'm surprised because they were like, 'Don't talk about it,' and they drop the statement. So now I'm like, 'Guys, I'm doing a podcast; I'll get asked.'' Co-host MacG said their podcast is always in hot water and asked what changed this time. 'Is there new management or something?' asked MacG. 'Oh yeah, there is new management,' Phenduka responded. He said that United Stations purchased Kaya FM. United Stations became a sales partner to Kaya FM in February this year. 'We are confident this partnership will be productive and impactful. Above all, we assure our stakeholders that this transition will be handled seamlessly,' said Kaya FM's Managing Director, Colleen Louw, after the announcement. United Stations is now responsible for selling Kaya FM's advertising space and airtime to potential clients. This involves marketing and securing advertisers who want to promote their brands on Kaya FM, connecting clients to the station's audience, and driving new commercial opportunities for both the advertisers and Kaya FM. uMhlathuze council meeting comes to abrupt end amid chaos
Chaos erupted during the City of uMhlathuze council sitting on Thursday afternoon shortly after the media was asked to leave the public gallery area. It is believed the meeting had just begun when shouting and screaming overpowered the voice of Speaker Thobias Gumede. The meeting came to a close minutes later, although the exact cause of the disruption is unclear at this stage. EFF members chanted their way through the city premises, celebrating the victory of their three replacement PR councillors being elected to the City of uMhlathuze. This after the Independent Electoral Commission confirmed the three members' election on 7 July. The newly-elected councillors replace the three who were expelled from the party earlier this year. Maphwanya's Iran fiasco: EFF takes fresh shots at Trump
South Africa still insists that the US is an important trade partner despite tensions between the two countries. The EFF says South Africa does not owe the US any explanation for the comments made by SANDF chief General Rudzani Maphwanya during his visit to Iran. This comes after reports that the White House has reached out to the government of South Africa, demanding an explanation for controversial remarks Maphwanya made, including the suggestion that Tehran and Pretoria have common goals and should work together. Maphawanya also allegedly slammed Israel for its alleged genocide against the people of Gaza. Is South Africa accountable to the US? However, EFF spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said the government should stand firm and not give in to the demands of the US. 'South Africa must not succumb to bullying and intimidation from the United States. 'We must continue to engage freely with Iran and all other nations we choose to, without reducing our foreign policy to the emotions of Donald Trump or any other American president,' he said. Should Maphwanya be punished for his remarks? Despite the potential risk of worsening relations between Pretoria and the Trump administration, Thambo said Maphwanya should be unapologetic for his comments. 'General Rudzani Maphwanya, the Chief of SANDF, must firmly reject any attempts by politicians to control our Army. 'His primary constitutional responsibility is to safeguard the people of South Africa, not to appease political agendas,' he said. Why was Ramaphosa not in Iran? He said Maphwanya is being thrown under the bus by the Presidency. 'It is now clear why President Cyril Ramaphosa distanced himself from this visit, presenting it as if the Chief of the SANDF had gone rogue. 'In reality, he sought to downplay the engagement, anticipating America's displeasure and bending once more to the need to appease Donald Trump.' EFF asserts SA's independence Thambo said South Africa is an independent country and should be treated as such. 'South Africa is an independent nation and we reserve the right to pursue trade, economic, diplomatic, and military relations with whomever we deem fit, including Iran.' He belives South Africa and Iran should have relations since they are both Brics countries. 'The enemies of the United States do not automatically constitute themselves as the enemies of South Africa, nor will our engagements be dictated by their shifting hostilities,' he said. SACP comes to Maphwanaya's defence The South African Communist Party (SACP) also recently pledged their support for Maphwanya. The party said Maphwanya had only represented the government's position on the war in the Middle East. 'The SANDF chief's comments in Iran regarding political and policy questions reportedly included South Africa's adopted and correctly articulated policy positions on Palestine. 'This reflects South Africa's international relations and co-operation policy, including solidarity,' the party said. But the Presidency said Maphawanya's comments are 'ill-advised,' 'unfortunate', and 'unhelpful.' This is the second time that the US has demanded an explanation from South Africa about the country's 'controversial' policies. The Trump administration previously accused the country of a genocide against white people in South Africa. This prompted Ramaphosa to urgently compile a team and meet with Trump to dispel the untruths about human rights violations in the country. Last week, Deputy President Paul Mashatile announced that another team would be sent to the US for trade talks with the Trump administration.
