PVR Inox shares in focus after Karnataka govt caps ticket prices to Rs 200

Time of India2 days ago
Shares of
PVR Inox
will be in focus on Wednesday, July 16, following a significant announcement by the Karnataka government. The new regulation mandates that
movie ticket prices
across Karnataka be capped at Rs 200, inclusive of entertainment taxes.
The state has notified the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025, which are expected to impact the movie exhibition industry—particularly
multiplex chains
like PVR Inox.
The move is seen as a major step toward making cinema more accessible, directly addressing concerns over high ticket prices raised by moviegoers.
Multiplexes across the state are required to comply with this price ceiling, with a 15-day deadline for implementation.
While the policy is likely to benefit audiences, it raises questions about how multiplex chains like PVR Inox will adapt their revenue models in response to the cap.
Live Events
As one of the largest cinema chains in India, PVR Inox will have to consider potential adjustments to its pricing, promotional strategies, and overall business model to align with the new regulation.

Explained: Motherson Sumi, Samvardhana Motherson didn't crash 32%. Bonus issue explains sharp price drop

Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International and Motherson Sumi Wiring appeared to plunge over 32% in early trade on Friday, July 18, showing sharply lower prices in investor demat accounts. But the steep drop was not a market rout, it was a technical adjustment following the companies' 1:2 bonus issues that took effect today, with stock prices recalibrating accordingly and no impact on the overall value of shareholder holdings. ADVERTISEMENT Samvardhana Motherson shares began trading ex-bonus on Friday following the company's 1:2 bonus issue, its 11th such issue in the last three decades. Shareholders will receive one bonus share for every two shares held as of the record date, which was set for July 18. The last day to buy the shares and remain eligible was Thursday, July 17. For example, an investor holding 200 shares will be allotted 100 bonus shares, increasing the total number of shares held to 300, with the per-share price adjusting proportionately. On Thursday, July 17, the Samvardhana Motherson stock had closed at Rs 153.85 on the BSE. On Friday morning, it opened at Rs 104.65, a decline of around 32% on paper, reflecting the bonus adjustment. The stock was trading 0.3% higher by mid-morning. This marks the 10th bonus issuance by Samvardhana Motherson since November 2000. Motherson Sumi Wiring, the demerged entity of Samvardhana Motherson, also implemented a 1:2 bonus issue, its first since listing. The record date was also July 18. ADVERTISEMENT Shares of Motherson Sumi Wiring closed at Rs 64.40 on Thursday and opened at Rs 43.70 on Friday, implying a 32% decline on paper, again, a direct outcome of the bonus adjustment. The stock was up 2.5% in early bonus ratio entitles shareholders to one bonus share for every two shares held. For instance, an investor with 100 shares will receive 50 bonus shares, increasing their total holdings to 150. ADVERTISEMENT Although the per-share price appears to have dropped significantly on paper, investors have not lost any value. The total worth of their holdings remains unchanged as the number of shares increases to offset the reduced example, a shareholder holding 300 shares of Motherson Sumi Wiring at Rs 60 apiece, a total value of Rs 18,000, will now hold 450 shares priced at approximately Rs 40 each, maintaining the same overall investment value. Malawi's Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola Leads Malawi Delegation for BESS Knowledge Exchange in India, Supported by GEAPP

NewsVoir New Delhi [India], July 18: Ibrahim Imed Matola, Minister of Energy, Government of Malawi, is on an official visit to India to strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the field of energy transition and sustainable development. The key highlight of the visit was Minister Matola's meeting with Pralhad Joshi, Cabinet Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, on July 17. The discussions centred around clean energy partnerships, grid modernisation, and regional challenges for energy access and transition to low-carbon technologies. Minister Matola visited the recently commissioned Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL)'s Kilokari sub-station in Delhi on July 15, which is South Asia's largest and India's first standalone utility-scale BESS, supported by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and its partners IndiGrid and AmpereHour Energy. The project has completed over 100 charge-discharge cycles in just three months, delivering measurable financial savings of over Rs. 25 million (USD 290,000) in power procurement costs and offering a scalable model for urban energy resilience. The visit is part of a larger initiative to enable cross-border learning and deepen global South-South cooperation in the clean energy sector. With Malawi targeting a just and inclusive energy transition - over 70% of its current installed capacity already comes from renewable sources - the Malawi government is seeking to adopt India's experience with battery storage deployment, digital grid solutions, and policy design for its urban energy reforms and successful completion of its 20 MW BESS under construction at Kenengo Substation in Lilongwe with funding from GEAPP. Applauding India's leadership in energy transition, Honourable Ibrahim Matola, Energy Minister, Government of Malawi said, "India's journey toward decarbonisation and innovation in clean energy systems provides a useful case study for our country's vision 2063, with increased integration of renewable energy being a key component of the vision to drive sustainable development and economic growth. We hope to learn from and adopt these innovations to Malawi's energy landscape, as we deliver on our National Compact to provide access to an additional 2.7 million households in line with Mission 300, which aims to electrify 300 million people in Africa by 2030. Collaboration with like-minded nations and partners such as GEAPP at both national and international levels is not just desirable, it is essential as we collectively respond to the global climate crisis." In addition to the BESS site visit, the Minister and delegation also engaged with GEAPP officials and its partners, the ABB Group & RIC Energy, to understand solutions for digitalizing grid assets and adopting AI-driven tools for network planning. The Digitalization of Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET) program by GEAPP in India aims to co-create, co-design, and deploy tailored systems to support Indian distribution companies (DISCOMs). The initiative aims to integrate AI and IoT-based solutions, enabling predictive load management, reducing AT & C losses, accelerating renewable energy integration, and enhancing grid stability to reduce the carbon footprint of power operations. Commenting on the visit, Saurabh Kumar, Vice President - India, GEAPP, stated, "Achieving 50% clean power installed capacity five years ahead of schedule is a milestone that underscores India's bold climate leadership, policy foresight, and the power of partnerships. In the spirit of global South-South collaboration, GEAPP is proud to support the ongoing visit of the Hon. Energy Minister of Malawi to India - an engagement that reflects how India's leadership can translate into scalable, digitally-enabled solutions for other emerging economies. It is a step forward in our shared pursuit of inclusive, resilient, and equitable energy transition." To further global collaboration, Malawi is also one of the signatories of the BESS Consortium led by the GEAPP Leadership Council (GLC), which seeks to deploy and scale BESS in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). GEAPP is supporting Malawi's 20 MW BESS project in collaboration with the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM). The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is an alliance of philanthropy, governments in emerging and developed economies, and technology, policy, and financing partners. Our common mission is to enable LMIC's shift to a clean energy, pro-growth model that accelerates universal energy access and inclusive economic growth, while supporting the global community to meet critical climate goals during the next decade. As an alliance, we aim to reduce four gigatons of future carbon emissions, expand clean energy access to one billion people, and enable 150 million new jobs. With philanthropic partners, IKEA Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP works to build the enabling environment, capacity, and market conditions for private sector solutions, catalyze new business models through innovation and entrepreneurship, and deploy high-risk capital to encourage private sector solutions and assist just transition solutions.

Ashwin Sheth Group buys 4.05-acre Goregaon West land for Rs 255 crore

Ashwin Sheth Group has acquired development rights of 4.05 acres of land with a gross development value (GDV) of Rs 3,800 crore in Mumbai's western suburb, Goregaon West, for Rs 255 crore. The Mumbai-based real estate developer has acquired the rights from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), which had to reissue the tender for the development as the developer appointed earlier left the project. The Ashwin Sheth Group won the tender and will develop a certain area of the land for the existing tenants. The premium project will feature five towers – four towers of 44 floors each and a signature 60-floor tower – alongside retail development. The development will offer approximately 12 lakh square feet of Rera carpet area, with 2, 3, and 4 bed residences ranging from 800 to 1,600 square feet. Ashwin Sheth, Chairperson and Managing Director of Ashwin Sheth Group, said: 'This strategic acquisition from Mhada represents a milestone in our expansion strategy. Goregaon West has emerged as one of Mumbai's most promising residential destinations, and securing this prime 4.05-acre parcel positions us to deliver a world-class development that will set new standards for premium living in the western suburbs.' In the last one year (April 2024–March 2025), Goregaon West has seen 1,300 new property sale transactions with a gross sales value of Rs 1,961 crore, according to Square Yards Data Intelligence, a real estate data analytics firm. The property rate in the area stood at Rs 35,208 per square foot as of the first quarter of the calendar year 2025 (Q1 CY25), against Rs 34,572 per square foot in Q1 CY24. The Siddharth Nagar location in Goregaon West offers excellent connectivity to major business districts, entertainment hubs, and transportation networks. With the area witnessing rapid infrastructure development and emerging as a preferred residential destination for both end-users and investors, the project is strategically positioned to cater to the growing demand for premium housing in the western suburbs, the company claimed. Earlier, in June, the company acquired a 50 per cent stake in a luxury project with a GDV of Rs 2,300 crore in Mumbai, for which Singapore-based alternative investment firm PAG has committed funding of Rs 540 crore ($65 million). The Ashwin Sheth Group is exploring plans for an initial public offering (IPO). 'The IPO is still 12 to 18 months away. First, we want to create a substantial portfolio to show in the IPO. We have identified merchant bankers. We are in discussions with the legal counsel,' a company spokesperson told Business Standard earlier. Further, the company has developed 38 msf of real estate projects, and 7 msf of the company's projects are under construction with a GDV of Rs 24,000 crore. 'This revenue will accrue to us in the next 5 to 6 years,' the spokesperson had said.
