The Sun were outmatched from the start, trailing 60-28 at halftime and scoring just 24 points in the second half on the way to a 100-52 defeat. Through seven games, Connecticut ranks last in the WNBA in scoring, averaging just 70.9 points per game.
Despite their struggles on the court, the Sun are still working to engage with the community. The team recently promoted an upcoming local event on social media:
"It's officially summer! Come celebrate with us at Washington Park on June 13th as we unveil the new court! The night will be full of basketball, giveaways, and community building!"
The Washington Park Court unveiling is a collaborative event with the City of Groton, aiming to highlight the revitalized basketball court and offer a clinic for local kids.

The renovation, which cost $120,000, includes new hoops, fresh pavement and a new coat of paint. Connecticut Sun president Jen Rizzotti is expected to speak at the event alongside other community leaders.

The celebration will also feature a player appearance from the Sun and a chance to win two tickets to the Sun-Indiana Fever game on Aug. 17.
On the court, Connecticut has just two players averaging double digits in scoring this season. Tina Charles leads the way with 16.1 points per game, while Marina Mabrey continues to be a key contributor at 15 points per game.
The Sun return to action at home on Friday against the Atlanta Dream.

Oilers' Corey Perry Sends 'Tough' Message After 2OT Loss to Panthers

Oilers' Corey Perry Sends 'Tough' Message After 2OT Loss to Panthers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Edmonton Oilers came close to taking a 2-0 series lead in their Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Florida Panthers, but Friday night's Game 2 ended on the wrong side of things for the challengers. Advertisement Despite Corey Perry's equalizer with under 18 seconds left in regulation, the Oilers couldn't close it out as Florida's Brad Marchand scored in double overtime to tie the series at 1-1. Now the series shifts to Sunrise, Florida, with the Panthers taking home-ice advantage from the Oilers just two games into the series. Edmonton's veterans, however, chose not to dwell on what could have been and instead focused on what's next when asked about the loss by reporters. Perry, who has now appeared in five of the last six Stanley Cup Finals, showed little frustration after the loss. "We lost with 0.4 seconds left a couple series ago. Those are tough," Perry said. "You know, you go home. Yeah, you can think about it. But tomorrow you get some rest and get on the plane and be ready for Game 3." Advertisement Perry said the Panthers deserve credit for pushing back in a series both teams expected to be difficult. "(The Panthers) are a good team. I keep saying they are a good team. They're going to push us to the max, and we're going to push them to the max," Perry said. "It's frustrating right now, but we're in the Final for a reason." Edmonton Oilers right wing Corey Perry reacts after scoring a goal in the 2025 Stanley Cup Tychnowicz-Imagn Images Leon Draisaitl echoed that mindset after logging a goal and an assist in the loss. "Every game is tight at this time of year, two really good teams," Draisaitl said. "It's never going to be easy. Regroup and move on." Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final is on Monday at 8 p.m. ET at Amerant Bank Arena. Clara Wu Tsai talks NY Liberty, Brooklyn Nets value ... and offers comment on Tibs ouster

As her team gains in key numbers — wins and losses and valuation, Clara Wu Tsai continued talking up the WNBA Thursday, this time at a Forbes conference where she spoke about the potential of both the New York Liberty and Brooklyn Nets, confirming media reports that the Liberty is now worth nearly a half billion dollars while pointing up the disparity between the leagues in TV revenue and laying out glowing praise for the Libs GM, Jonathan Kolb. Wu Tsai was joined at the Forbes Iconoclast Summit in New York by Alex Rodriguez, the new co-owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, and Marc Lasry, who last year sold his 25% stake in the Milwaukee Bucks ... and whose daughter bought into the Liberty ownership group last week. A lot of the discussion was about, no surprise, money and the investment potential of both the NBA and WNBA, with Wu Tsai confirming to Forbes Randall Lane with a simple 'yes' that media reports are correct: the Libs now have a valuation of $450 million ... and with a nod that the rise in valuation has surprised even her. Wu Tsai had twice in the last year predicted the Liberty would reach a billion dollar valuation within 10 years, which would make it the first women's pro team to reach that mark. Talking about the Liberty's investment potential, Wu Tsai was asked about the W's ceiling. 'We don't know what the ceiling is for the WNBA. There's still so much upside, and so, you can be really creative.' she responded. 'Women's sports is a growth asset with a lot of long-term upside potential,' Tsai said. 'The viewership is growing. The revenue hasn't quite caught up.' She pointed out, 'The national broadcast audience for WNBA games is 30 or 40% of the NBA, but we're only two percent of the revenue, the media deal. Even next year, we're only going to be four percent of the revenue.' She also noted, 'we're long and holding our core assets, the WNBA, NBA and Barclays Center' noting that the Nets valuation has increased from 'two to six' billion dollars 'to we don't know what we're going to see,' describing the NBA as 'scarce, premium, mature' and the W 'large and growing viewership ... there's value there.' She also volunteered how Barclays Center fits into the Tsais' overall plans, mentioning its role at the center of what the Tsais are apparently planning in Brooklyn: an 'ecosystem,' that would encompass an entertainment district centered on the arena along with media, wine and food offerings. 'I just want to point out how important Barclays Center is to our world and our ecosystem,' she said. 'Because it not only allows us to take advantage of the demand in live entertainment but it lets us control our full fan experience and it's the anchor for everything we do in the community.' She spoke about Kolb in the context of acquiring talent, saying basketball success isn't just dependent on players. Wu Tsai credited her GM with being the architect of last year's championship. 'It really started with the general manager, probably the most important decision we made when we bought the team in 2019. We hired Jonathan Kolb and he is the one who architected the team that won, 'All the things that we did in turning around this distressed asset when we bought it — the first thing was moving the team to Barclays back to where the fan base was but the second thing was to build a team that could win,' she said, adding, 'That was all through the incredible eye and persistence of Jonathan Kolb. Your general manager is probably your most important higher.' Kolb, who was the WNBA Executive of the Year in 2023, is not just seen as a top WNBA executive. Many in both leagues think he could ultimately wind up with an NBA job. Finally, as Forbes reports, Wu Tsai was asked about the Knicks firing of Tom Thibodeau earlier this week. To address the most pressing question on much of the New York audience's mind, Lane closed the panel by asking for a yes or no answer on whether the Knicks should have fired Tom Thibodeau, the coach who led them to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years. Rodriguez and Lasry dodged the question, but Tsai took the opportunity to criticize her Nets' crosstown competitors with a succinct 'no.' It's not the first time Wu Tsai has criticized Dolan from whom she and Joe bought the Liberty for a reported $10 to $14 billion. Caitlin Clark brings back Shedeur Sanders' signature celebration

Caitlin Clark brings back Shedeur Sanders' signature celebration Shedeur Sanders' iconic "watch flex" celebration became a trademark of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback throughout his final season. Celebrities and top athletes began using the celebration after highlight moments, such as game-winning goals in soccer or home runs in baseball. The celebration received so much acclaim that it was featured in the EA Sports College Football 25 video game. Thanks to WNBA superstar Caitlyn Clark, Sanders' celebration is back in the spotlight. Clark paid homage to the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback before the Indiana Fever's game against the Chicago Sky. Clark has been absent from the starting lineup recently as she recovers from a left quad strain she suffered against the New York Liberty on May 24. The former Iowa star seems ready to get back on the court, with her next chance being June 10 against the Atlanta Dream. Clark and Sanders were arguably the most talked-about college athletes over the past two seasons, as both athletes wrapped up their college careers with significant hype. Clark is in her second season in the WNBA after being the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, while Sanders is entering his first year in the NFL after falling to the fifth round in the NFL draft. Sanders is competing for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland and impressed Browns' coaches with his performance during OTAs. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
