"Singer 2025" slammed for Joyce Cheng's injury
The Hong Kong singer and daughter of the late Lydia Shum was originally scheduled to make her comeback on the reality singing competition after two years of hiatus. However, two hours before the show, the programme announced that Joyce has decided to withdraw due to a previous injury.
It was revealed that the singer was accidentally injured during the filming of the promotional clip for the show due to improper handling of the lighting equipment by the staff. Although she originally stated that she would continue to perform if her physical condition permits it, Joyce was unable to do so as the pain on her shoulders, neck and ears had yet to subside.
In response to the announcement, netizens angrily slammed the show for not being extra careful.
One netizen wrote, "You really are a shoddy team, aren't you?" while another posted, "This is too much. Do you think it's easy for people to come to your show?"
Meanwhile, upon the news that Joyce might return for a second round of the competition if her condition gets better, netizens responded, "Don't do it. There will be no next session. There are safety issues."
Another posted, "What singer would dare come to your show next time?"

More from Variety Gaming the Future: 'Black Myth: Wukong' Boosts Chinese Companies Looking to Reap Rich IP Rewards From Video Games Chinese Game 'Black Myth: Wukong' Is an Instant Global Hit, Attracting Great Reviews, Praise at Home and Controversy Abroad A cinematic teaser of the game was shared during Gamescom, but, 'as the project is still in early development, no in-game footage is available at this time,' Game Science noted. In an FAQ section on its website, Game Science addressed why it has chosen to make a 'Black Myth' game based on a new myth, rather than a direct sequel to 'Wukong,' writing: 'Thanks to the unwavering support from our players, the first 'Black Myth' title has landed safely. Upon completing the journey with the Destined One, we now aspire to take a tentative first step — to build more distinct game experiences, to challenge ourselves with bolder features, and to bring fresh ideas to our world and narrative design. 'Zhong Kui' came as a natural choice born of that aspiration and other contributing factors. We are confident that, in this new project, we can make refreshing changes, create new things, while taking a hard look at past flaws and regrets. And to all friends who love 'Black Myth: Wukong,' the westward journey won't end here.' Watch the teaser for 'Black Myth: Zhong Kui' below.
