Fresh scandal hits Strictly as BBC call in cops after external probe into show weeks before new series starts
THE BBC has brought police into the Strictly probe — engulfing the show in its biggest crisis. Beeb bosses alerted the Met after lawyers began an inquiry into the scandal-hit series. 3 Strictly Come Dancing has been engulfed in its biggest crisis after police were brought in Credit: PA 3 BBC bosses alerted police after lawyers began an inquiry into the scandal-hit series Credit: Getty 3 It is understood that detectives from the Met Police are examining allegations Credit: Getty Police being brought in to investigate allegations surrounding Strictly Come Dancing is not a good look for the scandal-hit BBC, sources said last night. The corporation had already launched an inquiry into its flagship Saturday night family show amid claims two of its stars had used cocaine. It is understood that detectives from the Met Police are examining other allegations relating to the telly ballroom hit, which has been rocked by a string of controversies. Our latest shock revelation comes as the BBC prepares to launch Strictly's 23rd series next month - after officially announcing the line-up of celebrities including reality TV star Dani Dyer. A source told The Sun on Sunday: 'It's a significant new development in the BBC's recent string of crises that they have now got the police involved in investigating allegations surrounding Strictly. "This is a very dramatic turn of events. 'Despite all the show and its team have been through over recent months, it's hugely controversial that you've now got Scotland Yard detectives probing Strictly. 'This is their biggest prime-time family entertainment show, so it's not a good look for the BBC.' Strictly has been the subject of inquiries into bullying and inappropriate behaviour over the past 14 months. But this is believed to be the first time the BBC has been in contact with the police over allegations linked to the show. Strictly Come Dancing 2025 lineup IN FULL - including Game of Thrones star & famous YouTuber It is understood the matter was referred by the BBC after it launched an inquiry, conducted by external lawyers Pinsent Masons, into alleged drug use on the show. The Sun on Sunday reported two weeks ago how it was 'well known' that two Strictly stars took cocaine. It was claimed one accused another of being 'off their face' - saying: 'Have you seen their pupils?' It's hugely controversial that you've now got Scotland Yard detectives probing Strictly Source Lawyers were brought in after ex-Strictly star and opera singer Wynne Evans made allegations in a legal submission to the BBC in March. In relation to the drugs allegations, the BBC said a fortnight ago: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. 'It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' Plunged into crisis The BBC previously investigated bullying allegations by actress Amanda Abbington against pro Giovanni Pernice. Graziano Di Prima was fired over claims he kicked celeb partner Zara McDermott. Earlier this year Evans was dumped by the BBC after he was filmed making a 'spit-roast' comment to EastEnder Jamie Borthwick at the Strictly tour photocall. In June Borthwick was suspended after The Sun on Sunday revealed he made an offensive slur against disabled people and Blackpool. It was also claimed he filmed himself messing around with a sex toy in a Strictly tour dressing room. The BBC has also been plunged into a crisis over its cookery show MasterChef, with co-hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode fired. Meanwhile, corporation chiefs have also been probing claims of bullying on BBC Breakfast, including allegations about host Naga Munchetty's behaviour. Last night Scotland Yard said: 'On Monday 4 August, the Metropolitan Police received a third-party allegation. "The police investigation is in its early stages. No arrests have been made at this time.' We approached the BBC for comment.

Watch: Peter Crouch legs it from TNT desk to catch Oasis in Dublin
The Premier League may have begun this weekend but all anyone can think about in Ireland is Oasis playing in Dublin tonight. The band continue their reunion tour in Croke Park as they are set to perform in front of two sold-out crowds this weekend in the first shows in Ireland since 2009. It's been the hottest ticket in town for a while now and it's been a much sought after one as no one wants to miss the Gallagher brothers reunite, including Premier League legend Peter Crouch. Peter Crouch. Pic: Neal Simpson/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images The ex-Liverpool man was on the job for TNT Sports as one of his former sides Aston Villa took on Newcastle United in both sides' opening game of the Premier League season. It wasn't a game to write home about as despite Ezri Konsa getting a straight red card for the Villains, neither side really had many chances in what was a drab 0-0 at Villa Park. It was still however a good point for Newcastle, who are still in the midst of the Alexander Isak transfer debacle as the Swede is looking to leave Tyneside for Liverpool. Pic: @footballontnt/ X After all the post-match festivites and interviews the TNT broadcast was coming towards an end when Peter Crouch started to look a bit nervy, especially when host Lynsey Hipgrave teased that they could go on for a but longer. Hipgrave said; 'That's about all we've got time for, oh actually sorry my producer is just telling me we have got a lot more time, he said we can carry on talking.' Crouch replied; 'Lynsey, you know I'm going to Oasis tonight, it's not happening.' Pic: @footballontnt/X Hipgrave questioned Crouch 'Where you going?' But Crouch had no time for any messing around, revealing he was heading to Dublin to see Oasis. 'I'm going to Oasis, I've got a flight to catch'

Ex-RTE star Ryan Tubridy rumoured to make Irish TV return for first time since payment scandal
Tubridy will not return to RTE for his TV comeback TV REVIVAL Ex-RTE star Ryan Tubridy rumoured to make Irish TV return for first time since payment scandal RYAN Tubridy is tipped for a shock return to Irish telly – marking his first TV appearance since the explosive RTE payments scandal rocked the nation. The former Late Late Show host quit RTE over two years ago before jetting off to London in 2023 to front his own gig on Virgin Radio UK. 2 Ryan Tubridy is rumoured to make his Irish TV return soon 2 Tubridy has not appeared on Irish TV since 2023 But now, rumour has it Tubs is expected to make his Irish telly comeback – and it won't be with the national broadcaster. According to Ryan is set to return on rival station Virgin Media in a move sure to raise eyebrows. Tubridy is tipped to play a part in Virgin Media's brand new show The Assembly, which is set to hit screens early next year. But in a twist, he won't be the one asking the questions — he'll be in the hot seat. The current affairs series flips the script, with neurodivergent young people grilling celebs and public figures in a bold new format. The Assembly first aired in France, where even big names like President Emmanuel Macron and top footie stars faced a grilling. The show has recently won over viewers with its fresh format and fearless young interviewers. This comes after Tubridy said he is 'happy to have been able to' pay RTE back €150,000 at the centre of a hidden payments scandal. The cash was part of a controversial deal between Ryan and the broadcaster, which came to light in 2023. Debate about the payments has raged since, with Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan demanding Tubs pay the money back last June. Donncha O'Callaghan has Ryan Tubridy in stitches News of the repayment came in a statement from a PR representing Mr Tubridy. He said via the statement: 'Earlier, I made a payment of €150,000 to RTE. "I made this payment through my solicitor, without any discussions with RTE or with anyone acting on their behalf and without condition.' PAY BACK He continued: 'I have said on various occasions that I intended making this payment and I am happy to have been able to do so today.' When contacted by The Irish Sun, by his former employer told us: 'RTE can confirm it has received payment of €150,000 from Ryan Tubridy via his solicitor this afternoon. 'RTE welcomes the payment and would like to thank Ryan Tubridy for making it.' An industry source added: 'I don't think Ryan Tubridy is going back to RTE, but this allows other doors to open now that it has been dealt with. 'Ryan is very wise to do this. It was something that was going to continue to hang over him — he has done the right thing.'
