I Just Got Back From Spain And Everyone Was Wearing These Shoes - So I Caved Too

Graziadaily20-06-2025
I just got back from spending a week in Madrid and while I explored the usual sights; Retiro Park, the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor, there was another sight I was desperate to stop by - the Flabelus store. For those who have never heard of the brand, let me introduce you. Flabelus is a Spanish label who took a traditional Venetian slipper and added a Spanish twist with its plush velvet outer and delectable range of colour combinations to choose from. Its shoes are now quietly (or maybe not so quietly) taking over wardrobes (and the Grazia office too).
As it turns out the story behind the brand is as sweet as its shoes. When founder Beatriz de los Mozos first dreamt of importing the classic Furlane slipper to Spain, it wasn't a grand business plan but a passionate hunch. Beatriz spoke to Grazia's Hannah Banks-Walker to explain: 'I loved the shoes, but I wanted to adapt them to the Spanish market.' The twist? Her two best friends were meant to co-found the brand with her but had to step back, 'but during that meeting we found the name: Fla (Flaminia) -Be (Beatriz) -Lus (Lucrecia) is the combination of our three names.' A few meetings with Spanish espadrille factories later, and the first Flabelus shoe was born - a slipper-espadrille that tows the line between the two.

Velvet Antonia Mary Janes Black
There's nothing more versatile than a black pair of Mary Janes, which is why this Flabelus pair is so popular. Wear them with jeans, a midi skirt or mini dress, the shoes will go with everything you already have in your wardrobe, but can also easily elevate any outfit too.
Since then, Flabelus' cult shoes have been spotted more times than I can count on Instagram, and the brand gives a lot of credit to its socials for creating a community with one thing in common - a collective obsession with Flabelus shoes. 'We're very lucky because our clients love posting the shoes online,' Beatriz says, 'of course we work hard to place the shoes in the wardrobes of the coolest ambassadors all over the world.' And cool women they are. Billie Eilish once uploaded an Instagram post wearing them ('I nearly had a heart attack' Beatriz admits), and fashion editors across Europe are racing to get their hands on the deep burgundy Lucrecia Mary Janes - one of the bestsellers.

Mary Jane Shoes Red Velvet
A best-seller for Flabelus, its burgundy velvet Mary Janes are popular for good reason. With a distinctive branded sole that's made out of recycled bike tyres and a strap finished with contrast stitching and a buckle - the Flabelus Mary Janes are a shoe that will never go out of style. Wear with denim shorts or a maxi dress.
My thoughts? The Flabelus Mary Janes are, honestly, one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I've slipped my feet into (and that's not an exaggeration). I wore them while walking sometimes over 15,000 steps a day on holiday, to a Sam Fender concert, and now I'm home, the Mary Janes have also become a mainstay in my office wardrobe - styling them with anything from wide-leg trousers to midi dresses. The velvet is soft on the outside, the insole is soft on the inside and the sole (that's cleverly crafted from recycled bike tyres) is a feature I really love - especially considering the fact that most ballet flats don't really have any sort of protection between your foot and the floor. The only negative thing about Flabelus' Mary Janes is the sizing - be warned, they come up super small - even the sales associate advised me of that. I'm usually a size 4.5/5 and have quite narrow feet, so I sized up to a 6 and they fit much better than the size 5 I originally tried.
If you never thought you'd see the day where the shoe you used to wear back in 2004 is suddenly everywhere once more, well I'm sorry to tell you - Mary Janes are back like they never left. The shoes have inevitably gotten a lot more chic - we can all probably be glad the stiff and patent iterations are no longer - all thanks to Flabelus' iconic and quietly luxurious velvet styles. Plus, while the shoes might look dainty, Flabelus' Mary Janes are actually made for everyday wear, whether you're heading to the office, to brunch, to the market, or even to Madrid.
Aside from comfort, Flabelus tick all the boxes for sustainability, craftsmanship and - perhaps the hardest one to achieve - a sense of identity than runs deeper than any trend (I can't tell you how many people stopped me in the street to say 'are they Flabelus?' when talking about my shoes). And, as Beatriz puts it 'every pair of shoes tells a story', so, if you're going to invest in a Mary Jane this summer, make it one with soul. 4.

Fans express concern after Keith Urban skips family getaway with wife Nicole Kidman - as the real reason why they've been apart for weeks is revealed

Fans have expressed concern after Keith Urban skipped a family holiday with his wife Nicole Kidman and their children. The 57-year-old singer failed to appear in sweet holiday snaps posted by Nicole, 58, to Instagram on Wednesday. Many fans have flocked to Instagram to question Keith's whereabouts after noticing he was missing from the images. 'Where's Keith? Guess the rumors are true,' one asked while another questioned: 'Where is he?' But Keith has been unable to holiday with his family as he is currently on tour. The country singer is currently performing shows around Australia and is set to take the stage in Wollongong on Wednesday night before heading to Sydney. In the photos, Nicole gave fans a rare look at her natural locks as she posed with her daughters and sister Antonia Kidman. The actress, 58, revealed her curly auburn locks in one picture as she embraced her daughter Sunday Rose. She was all smiles as she showed off her natural beauty in a second image while posing with her sister Antonia. She also flaunted her slim figure in a patterned blue crop top and a matching coloured skirt. It was a far cry from the dramatically straightened look Nicole unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival Presidential Dinner in May. The Moulin Rouge! star wore the weave to add volume to her strawberry blonde locks and help give her a more youthful look. However, the mesh wig cap was visible as Nicole posed for photos on the red carpet despite her real hair being weaved into it. She also unveiled another radical makeover at the Met Gala as she stepped out with a cropped, slicked-back cut and wavy fringe. Nicole's habit of wearing wigs in Hollywood movies and on the red carpet has earned her a cult following over the years. The Hollywood star has rarely showcased her natural hair in films and on the red carpet since the early days of her career, and almost always wears wigs for her roles. Over the past few months, Nicole has stepped out in a series of dramatic wigged looks – ranging from sleek, straight styles to blunt cuts, and one that became a viral misfire. Appearing on Sunrise in May, Nicole admitted that she 'loves changing her hair' and uses hairpieces to achieve new looks.

Married at First Sight star Marilyse Corrigan left reeling as she is 'dumped by text'

Marilyse Corriganan, who found fame on E4's reality show Married At First Sight is said to have been left 'heartbroken' after her partner of one year split up with her via text message Married at First Sight star Marilyse Corrigan has been left single again after her partner of one year 'dumped her over text'. The personal trainer, who found fame when she met and married Franky Spencer, 50, on the set of the E4 series, and, while they quickly realised it wasn't meant to be, she found love again with someone else. ‌ Marilyse, 40, met her mystery man, who is not in the public eye, a year ago and things seemed to be going well between the pair but now an insider has claimed that the whole thing has come to a very abrupt end. A source told The Sun: "Marilyse is really upset and can't believe she's ended up single again. She was dumped over text after falling head over heels. It was a whirlwind romance and in hindsight she feels she was love bombed." ‌ Lovebombing, which originated as a term in the 1970s but has gained particular momentum since the advent of social media, is used to describe the action of showering someone with affection to an excessive degree shortly after meeting as a way to secure them into some kind of romantic relationship. The reality star is yet to break her silence on the matter publicly, and has instead chosen to keep her 131,000 Instagram followers up to date with health and fitness tips instead. ‌ After both she and Franky agreed to go their separate ways following their time on the television experiment in 2021, Marilyse struck up a relationship with fellow MAFS star Matt Murray, 34, but even that fizzled out after six months, and she claimed at the time that the whole thing had felt "too intense" for her liking. At the time, she told new! magazine: "Matt likes to have all of your attention when you're in a relationship with him. He was needy and couldn't understand why I couldn't be his all the time. "I wouldn't call them red flags, but there were times when he'd question me about silly things - things that were unnecessary - and then question me about them again." In response to Marilyse's claims, Matt told the Mirror: "I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the comments made about me by Marilyse regarding our relationship. ‌ "Whilst I acknowledge Marilyse's feelings, I do not agree with her comments. Relationships can be complex and there are always two sides to every story. "I am very private so I don't wish to share my side of the story publicly. I would like to draw a line under this now." He added: "While I understand that Marilyse has shared her perspective on our time together, I want to make it clear that I hold no ill feelings towards her and I wish her nothing but the best. "I am committed to growth. Moving forward, I am focusing on the positive and surrounding myself with supportive people who encourage me to be my best self." ‌ "So I started feeling on edge around him." Matt had moved on with Marilyse after his spontaneous marriage to Hughes didn't work out, even though they appeared to have hit it off to begin with. Things turned sour and she decided to call it a day and dumped the tattooed barber with sources claiming he had been causing upset while "gaslighting" his social media followers. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, a source close to Marilyse said: " We're all so relieved that Marilyse saw sense and ended things with Matt. He treated her appallingly, she was totally blinded by him, he love-bombed her and she always sees the good in people which left her vulnerable to him." Marilyse is not surprised by Matt's recent behaviour on Instagram. She expects nothing less from him. "Marilyse tried to see the good in him because she knows oh too well how the show edits can portray cast members inaccurately, but unfortunately, as time went on it became clear he didn't appreciate her."

Inbetweeners stars tease brand new project together

James Buckley and Joe Thomas, who played Jay Cartwright and Simon Cooper on the popular show, have shared a picture together on social media. Buckley shared the photo on Instagram with the caption "Working on something…" Fans of the program have taken to the comments, hoping that it is a project linked to The Inbetweeners. Fans go wild as Inbetweeners stars tease new project together One fan said: "We need an Inbetweeners reunion. Set 10/15 years later. Jay gets married and carnage ensues. American Pie Reunion showed that it can be done well." Another said: "Inbetweeners 3 we waiting." A third commented: "The Inbetweeners need to do a movie again! One of the boys stag dos." Others believe it could be linked to White Gold, the British sitcom set in Essex, telling the story of a group of UPVC window salesmen in the mid-1980s, that stars both Buckley and Thomas. Will there be an Inbetweeners 3? Fans have long called for another project to do with The Inbetweeners. In 2011, the first Inbetweeners film was released, followed by a second film in 2014 that saw Simon, Will, and Neil visit Jay in Australia. Top 10 Best British TV Series They came after a successful three-season series that fans still talk about and quote today. While no plans have been confirmed, ideas have been discussed. Speaking previously about the prospect of a reunion on The Always Be Comedy podcast, Joe Thomas said: "All of us feel it would be nice to do." He added: "We're all still around, we're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other. "And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it. I feel like we all still really like each other. "We've all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves." Joe went on to hint at what could be next for the Inbetweeners, sharing that some ideas have included a stag do in Las Vegas. However, the actor added that there is some concern about returning to the big screen: "Everybody's anxiety would be, 'Will it be as good?'. That is what we would be going in with."
