Dartmouth man charged with drug trafficking, firearms offences: N.S. RCMP

The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment charged a Dartmouth, N.S., man with drug trafficking and firearm offences after officers executed search warrants in East Preston and Dartmouth.
Police say they entered a residence in East Preston on Wednesday where a 42-year-old suspect attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly arrested.
Officers then searched the home's garage, two vehicles, and a residence in Dartmouth with assistance from Halifax Regional Police, the RCMP said in a news release.
Police say they seized a loaded pistol with an over-capacity magazine, a quantity of pre-packaged cocaine, and cash.
Frankie Downey, of Dartmouth, has been charged with:
careless use of a firearm
contraventions of regulation to store, handle, transport, ship, display firearm
possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
unauthorized possession of a firearm
possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
possession of a weapon or device knowing its possession is unauthorized
possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
possession of weapon obtained by commission of offence
possess firearm while prohibited (two counts)
possession for purpose of trafficking
possession of property obtained by crime
Downey was remanded into custody and made an appearance in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Thursday. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear again on Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing.

(OPP) An intersection in Kawartha Lakes was closed for hours after a serious single-vehicle rollover left one person with life-altering injuries. It happened Saturday in the early hours of the morning after emergency crews were called to Eldon Road between Black School Road and Peniel Road. Officers attended the area and came across a motor vehicle that had struck a tree and a farmer's fence. The driver was transported to a local hospital by paramedics. Police say the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP detachment, along with emergency medical services responded to the incident. Eldon Road remained closed for several hours as officers conducted their investigation and documented the scene.
