71 Schools In KL, Selangor To Shift To Online Learning During ASEAN Summit
Some 71 schools in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Selangor will implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) from May 26 to 28, in conjunction with the 46th ASEAN Summit, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced on April 17.
The temporary shift to online learning is intended to minimise disruptions caused by road closures and heightened security measures during the regional event.
'This measure ensures that student learning continues uninterrupted while prioritising the safety and well-being of students, teachers and the school community,' MOE said.
The ministry added that it is confident schools can manage the PdPR transition effectively, citing past experience during the pandemic and emergencies.
Parents, guardians, and students are advised to consult their respective schools' official communication channels for specific guidance and updates. Related

MOHE-MOE unite to improve national education with a taste of campus for sixth formers
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) are strengthening strategic cooperation to improve the continuity and quality of national education, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. During a courtesy call by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek who led a MOE delegation, Zambry said they stressed the commitment of both ministries to coordinate the country's education policies comprehensively starting from preschool to higher education levels. The innovative programme will open up opportunities for sixth formers to gain pre-university learning experience in a higher education environment, thus building a stronger academic foundation that is relevant to future needs. 'The implementation of this programme is a significant initial step to expand the pre-university learning experience in a university setting and add value to Form Six education. We expect student registration to begin on June 10,' he said in a Facebook post today. He said the meeting also discussed the proposal to establish the National Education Council, a joint platform proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to unify the direction and policies of the country's education in an integrated manner, without boundaries between MOE and MOHE. The 'Telaah Programme' initiative is also one of the main focuses of the collaboration, aimed at socialising the culture of reading and strengthening the tradition of knowledge through discussions based on major works and national issues. This programme is expected to receive broad support from MOE and the Ministry of Communications to expand its reach to the school level and the general public. Zambry stressed that education can no longer be seen as a separate entity, but rather should be integrated into a common direction that unites values, knowledge and skills in order to form a credible and competitive Malaysian generation. 'We are confident that with the spirit of openness and reciprocity that has been established today, the national education ecosystem will continue to be strong from the grassroots to the highest echelon,' he said.

The Russian catechism of Metropolitan Tikhon
From the 2026/2027 school year, the 'Fundamentals of Russia's moral and spiritual culture' will be introduced as a new subject in Russian schools. The drafting of the textbook has been entrusted to the Metropolitan of Crimea, known as Putin's 'spiritual father'. Jun 04, 2025 MOSCOW: From 1 September 2026, a new subject will be taught in Russian schools, 'Fundamentals of the Moral and Spiritual Culture of Russia' (abbreviated as Odnknr ), with the aim of teaching the traditional 'universal human' values that underpin all religions. The specific textbook for this subject, a veritable 'Russian catechism,' will be prepared by the Metropolitan of Crimea, Tikhon (Ševkunov), known as Vladimir Putin's 'spiritual father.' The text will be drafted by the Moscow State Pedagogical University, which has asked the Moscow Patriarchate for guidelines, entrusted to the metropolitan-publicist, filmmaker and writer, as officially announced by the press service of the Ministry of Education. The manual will not only be an exposition of abstract principles, but will be illustrated and explained with 'examples from the lives of great men of Russia'. In recent years, the new subject had been included in topics concerning the 'Culture of the Peoples of Russia' and 'History of Our Region' depending on the location of the school, but these variations had been criticised directly by Patriarch Kirill (Gundjaev) of Moscow, who urged that 'specific teaching of values should not be excluded from middle school classrooms'.
