Paul Simon's Daughter Slams Richard Gere for Selling Her $11 Million Childhood Home to Developer Who Plans To Demolish It
Lulu Simon, 30, took to Instagram to blast Gere, 75, in a series of posts, claiming that the 'Pretty Woman' star had 'promised' to 'take care' of the property when he first bought it in 2022—only to 'never actually move in.'
'Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere—I do!' she wrote alongside a picture of herself flashing a peace sign at the camera.
'He bought my childhood home,' she went on. 'Promised he would take care of the land as [a] condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in and just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots.
'Hate! Him!' she concluded the post, which also featured a news story about Gere's latest real estate deal.
Lulu then continued her tirade with a rather eerie warning for Gere, sharing an image of the actor surrounded by photos of her late pets, while writing: 'I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.'
Both posts were deleted around 18 hours after they were first posted.
The real estate deal at the center of Lulu's furious rant saw Gere—who relocated to Spain at the end of 2024 with his wife, Alejandra Gere, and their children—selling the New Canaan mansion to SBP Homes for $10.75 million in November 2024, around the same time he moved to Europe.
Months later, it was revealed that SBP Homes was planning to tear down the existing six-bedroom mansion, which was built in 1938 and sits on a stunning 32-acre plot, in order to make way for a nine-plot subdivision.
Realtor.com® revealed in May that Hudson Valley House Parts of Newburgh, NY, had been called in to salvage historic parts of the brick Colonial ahead of the demolition, with the company's founder, Reggie Young, noting that they had manage to save several historic parts of the property, including two steel nautical-motif, midcentury bay windows; a limestone mantel; and a marble mantel.
Gere purchased the home from the 'Mrs. Robinson' crooner and his wife, Edie Brickell, in the summer of 2022 and had originally planned to turn a large portion of its expansive grounds into a farm, according to details shared during a local planning and zoning commission meeting in 2023.
But in April, those plans seemed to have been put on hold when Gere told Vanity Fair Spain that he wanted to relocate his entire family to the European country so that his Spanish-born wife could be closer to her family.
'It is a beautiful place, the food is extraordinary and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy,' he told the outlet. 'I'm looking forward to going there.
'For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers.
'I love Spain and the ability of the Spanish people to live transmitting joy and happiness.'
Although Gere did not officially list the home, its original description hailed the property as an 'incomparable retreat' and a 'personal oasis' with 'spectacular grounds.'
The main house on the 32-acre property was originally designed by architect Harold R. Sleeper, and it featured five bedrooms, as well as grand formal rooms, 'soaring ceilings,' and beautiful natural light.
Before Gere purchased Simon's former home, it has been owned by the singer for 20 years, according to records, which show that he bought it back in 2002 for $16.5 million—three years before he and his wife welcomed daughter Lulu.
Gere bought the property from Simon via an LLC—scoring the home for a sizable discount. The property had first been listed by the singer-songwriter for a whopping $13.9 million; however, the actor paid just $10.8 million, records reveal.
Despite selling the Simon property, Gere has previously revealed that he and his wife planned to retain a residence in the U.S., telling Vanity Fair Spain that they owned a dwelling 'in the countryside near New York,' although he did not specify where.
Over the years, Gere has bought and sold numerous homes in the greater New York area, offloading a 50-acre Westchester estate for $28 million back in May 2022. TV-series runner Ryan Murphy was later revealed as the buyer.
Six years earlier, he had listed his Hamptons property, a picture-perfect home in Sag Harbor, NY, which was initially listed for $65 million.
Two years later, he wed Silva, and the pair have since welcomed two sons together. Gere also has an older son, Homer, now 24, from his marriage to second wife Carey Lowell, while Silva shares a son, Albert, 11, with her ex-spouse, Govind Friedland.
Since their big move, Gere has gushed about how much he 'loves' their new life—while also slamming the way in which the U.S. has changed under the leadership of President Donald Trump, leading many to suggest that Gere might never return.
However, Silva has since revealed that the couple were never planning to move to Spain permanently, explaining that they were going to be flying back and forth between their new home in Europe and the U.S., before eventually returning to America full-time at some point in the future.
'For a few years [we'll live in Spain], and then come back. But we're always coming back. We'll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here,' she told the Daily Mail.

Lyme disease symptoms and facts to know after Justin Timberlake shares diagnosis
As Justin Timberlake's recent world tour comes to a close, the pop singer revealed he has been battling more than just unsavory headlines. The pop singer, 44, revealed Thursday, July 31, that he was diagnosed with Lyme disease earlier in the year after facing criticism over several cancelled tour dates in a two-year period. Timberlake was forced to cancel several shows during his Forget Tomorrow World Tour between March 2024 and July 2025 for various reasons, including the last U.S. show in Columbus, Ohio on Feb. 27 after a bout of the flu. "If you've experienced this disease or know someone who has — then you're aware: living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically," he wrote in an Instagram post reflecting on the end of the tour. "When I first got the diagnosis I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness." Timberlake said the discovery of the disease forced him to make a decision regarding the tour, but he "decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling." The Forget Tomorrow World Tour ended July 30 in Istanbul after an international festival tour run. It was Timberlake's fastest selling tour to date and required several added shows due to demand. Back in 2024, the pop singer was worried about the tour's performance when he was arrested in Sag Harbor on Long Island for driving under the influence. He is quoted as being worried his arrest would "ruin the tour." Timberlake's worries may have been for nothing, as by the end of its run, the tour has amassed amassed over $140 million, according to Complex. Regarding his diagnosis, Timberlake said he was proud to have pushed through the struggles of the Lyme disease. "Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself but, I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget," he said in the Instagram post. "Sharing all of this with the hope that we can all find a way to be more connected. I'd like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too." Other celebrities who have publicly shared their battle with Lyme disease include Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber and Amy Schumer, among others. What to know Ticks in Hudson Valley: How many kinds are there? How to stay away from them What is Lyme disease? According to Mayo Clinic, Lyme disease is "an illness caused by borrelia bacteria, usually transmitted to humans from the bite of an infected tick." Ticks that carry the bacteria are found all across the United States, but are most commonly found in grassy or heavily wooded areas of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest states, as well as in Europe and Canada. New York reportedly had 22,173 cases of Lyme disease in 2023, according to the latest data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. NY is considered to have a "high incidence rate," with Lyme being the most commonly-reported tick-borne illness. Mayo Clinic says a tick bite will look like "a tiny, itchy bump on your skin, much like a mosquito bite." Most people don't even know they've been bitten by a tick, much less an infected one, until symptoms start to develop. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that Lyme disease infections have risen annually since 1995. Thirty years ago, 12,000 Americans were diagnosed with the disease annually. In 2022, that number rose to 63,000 reported infections a year. Since the disease is rarely detectable until several days after a bite, the CDC says it believes annual infection numbers are closer to nearly 476,000 a year. What do early Lyme disease symptoms look like? The Food and Drug Administration says Lyme disease is rarely fatal, but can cause chronic complications for the remainder of a person's life. Mayo Clinic says early symptoms of Lyme disease will occur between three to 30 days after the tick bite. The first stage of symptoms will appear as the bite develops a circular rash, also called a "bull's eye rash", around the point of contact. Other symptoms in stage 1 include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, joint stiffness and muscle pain, which Timberlake said he experienced while on tour. If untreated by stage 1, stage 2 symptoms can worsen by three to 10 weeks after the tick bite. These symptoms include widespread rashes on the body, continued neck pain and muscle weakness, as well as irregular heartbeat and immune system activity. Some people may experience swollen tissues of the eye or eyelid and possible vision loss. In the third stage of the disease, also known as "late disseminated disease," people can begin to experience arthritis conditions in large joints like the knees and prolonged pain, swelling and stiffness throughout the body. How to prevent Lyme disease The best way to avoid Lyme disease is to avoid contact with ticks, according to the Mayo Clinic. "Most ticks attach themselves to your lower legs and feet as you walk or work in grassy, wooded areas or overgrown fields," the medical research center said. "After a tick attaches to your body, it often crawls upward to find a spot to burrow into your skin." The clinic provides the following tips to prevent tick bites outdoors: Use tick repellents: Mayo Clinic recommends spraying outdoor clothing, shoes, tents and other outdoor gear with a repellent that has 0.5% permethrin. Use an insect repellent registered as skin-safe by the EPA, except on your face. Do not use products with OLE or PMD on children under the age of 3. Dress for protection: Wear long, light-colored clothing that makes it easy to spot ticks. Avoid open-toed shoes or sandals. Additionally, tuck in shirts into pants and pant legs into socks when hiking or other outdoor activity. Check for ticks when you return indoors: Shower as soon as possible to wash off any loose ticks. Check your body thoroughly for ticks that may have burrowed in the skin. Pay attention to underarms, hair, ears, between your legs, behind your knees and inside your bellybutton. Check your gear: Before you wash your outdoor clothes, put them in the dryer on hot for at least 10 minutes to kill ticks. Do a daily inspection for ticks on any pet that spends prolonged time outside. Stay on clear paths as much as possible when in wooded or grassy areas. If you suspect you have symptoms of Lyme disease, Mayo Clinic recommends seeing a medical professional as soon as possible. Love Island spoilers: Former contestants return to the villa to dump couple hours before final
We're just one day away from the finale of Love Island 2025 (*cry*), but one couple won't be making it to the end of the series, which airs on 4 August. In a brutal twist, a string of former Love Island contestants from this season have returned to the villa, and who they choose to dump has been described as "savage". "Familiar faces make a savage choice," Love Island's First Look on Instagram reads, with a clip showing the likes of Harrison, Alima, Emily and Tommy returning to the villa. The preview has prompted plenty of fans to speculate how the former Islanders will make their decision, with lots of viewers concerned that their favourites will be given the boot. "Worst ever decision to let a group of biased and bitter people back to vote," one person commented on the post, as someone else said: "You better not let us down Islanders... do the right thing." The Islanders' decision won't come totally out of the blue, though, as they'll pick who to dump based on the public's previous compatibility vote – which already sent Conor and Megan packing last week. "As you know, last night Megan and Conor were dumped as a result of receiving the least amount of votes for most compatible couple," Maya tells the Islanders on tonight's episode. "I'm now going to reveal the two other couples who received the fewest votes and are at risk of being dumped from the Island." Going on, Maya reveals that "one more couple" will be dumped from the villa there and then. "And that decision will be made by some very familiar faces." "Welcome back guys," she says, addressing this season's former contestants. "You must now individually decide which couple is the least compatible. The couple with the most votes will be dumped from the Island immediately." As for who is dumped in tonight's episode, we'll have to wait and see. Although, according to a source who spoke to the Mail Online, the pair that's sent packing have been a "big part" of the series, resulting in a "shocking" moment when their departure is announced. We! Can't! Wait!
