THREE Brits who faced the death penalty for allegedly smuggling £300,000 of cocaine into Bali have been let off with a one-year sentence.
The trio from Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex were stopped at Bali's international airport in February with 17 packages of cocaine, according to court documents.

Lisa Stocker, 39, a mum-of-three, and her partner, Jon Collyer, 39, had travelled from the UK via Qatar and were stopped in Indonesia's capital after a routine airport x-ray detected suspicious packages.
The couple first appeared in court on February 3 alongside Phineas Float, 31, who was accused of receiving the packages at an airport hotel.
Presiding judge Heriyanti said on Thursday morning that all three suspects had violated article 131 of Indonesian Narcotic law.
But Heriyanti added that the trio had admitted their offences and behaved "politely", and as a result, he was reducing their sentence.
All three defendants said that they accepted the verdict and would not file an appeal.
They have been serving time since February, which will count towards their sentence.
This means they are expected to be released early next year.
In the past, convicted drug traffickers - especially those caught with large amounts - have been executed by firing squads in Indonesia.
Those who escape the death penalty are often sentenced to life imprisonment.
In mid-July, lead prosecutor Made Dipa Umbara suggested the trio might be able to avoid a serious prison sentence.

He announced they will ask to "sentence the defendants to one year in prison" each, minus the time already served.
Umbara noted that all three had behaved well in court, apologised for their role in the smuggling plot and promised not to reoffend.
On July 15, Ms Stocker broke down in tears as she told the court she had been conned into carrying illicit packages.
She claimed a friend gave her the packages of Angel Delight in the UK and asked her to take them to Bali.
Ms Stocker said in June: "Jon and I had been to Bali twice carrying packages from [him]. I was shocked after finding out it was cocaine."
In mid-July, she again claimed she had no idea that her suitcase was full of narcotics.
Her partner, Mr Collyer, admitted what they did was "very stupid" as he told Judge Heriyanti: "I won't do it again."
Mr Float remained quiet as he sat in court after being involved in a shouting match during a previous hearing.
Back in June, while walking to the courtroom for the first day of his trial he yelled at journalist "f*** off".

Cops said they are working closely with Guildford Borough Council, which owns the 130-acre town centre park, to monitor the encampment. More than 30 caravans and a number of cars appeared overnight, setting up camp on one of the playing fields in the park uninvited. The quiet greenspace quickly began to resemble a caravan site with cops becoming involved. The force have said that the large encampment does not currently meet the threshold of powers available to police to manage unauthorised encampments. Officer's powers to manage encampments are "reliant on certain criteria with regards to damage, disruption, or distress" according to Surrey Police. Cops paid a visit to the site after it was reported to them but concluded that nothing could be done about the pop up camp. Surrey Police said they will continue to review the criteria to judge whether the threshold to evict the camper vans had been met. Images of the encampment show the caravans parked in a haphazard style on a playing pitch. A police spokesperson said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment of around 30 caravans and 28 other vehicles in Stoke Park, which arrived yesterday evening (August 12). "Officers visited the site and will continue to monitor the situation while working closely with our partners at Guildford Borough Council, who own the land. "The powers available to police to manage unauthorised encampments under Sections 60, 61, and 62 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 are reliant on meeting certain criteria with regards to damage, disruption, or distress. "It was judged that the encampment does not currently meet this threshold, but the relevant sections of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 will be reviewed on an ongoing basis to judge whether the criteria to direct the site to be vacated has been met."

On one visit to the vet, she recalls how a dog of the same breed was in there at the same time. "It was muzzled and oh my god, I was sweating," she said. Upon her return from hospital, she found the dog hadn't been put down after attacking her. Instead, she discovered it had been sold to another family with two children. The daylight mauling last month marked the fourth time it had tried to attack Gina and her dog. On one such occasion she was forced to throw her pet over a nearby wall to stop it being attacked. A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "At around 4.20pm on Tuesday July 1 2025, we received a report from the ambulance service that the victim – a local woman aged in her 50s – had been bitten by a dog in Campbell Road in Bournemouth, sustaining a serious leg injury. "She attended hospital for treatment to her injury. "Officers have directly spoken to the dog owner and enquiries are ongoing. "The victim has been updated with developments of the investigation. "We would advise members of the public to continue to report incidents of this nature to us so we can investigate further and take appropriate action." This follows a spate of dangerous dog attacks in recent weeks. Just last week, a victim of a suspected XL Bully attack was forced to climb over a fence and leap into a river to escape the crazed dog. It left the man hospitalised with police now appealing for information to track down the owner. That same week a seven-year-old boy was left with serious injuries after he was mauled by a dangerously out-of-control XL Bully too. He was savaged by his own family dog in the kitchen of his home suffering serious injuries.
