Marvel extends Glasgow shoot for new Spider-Man movie

The Marvel movie, set for release next year, is being filmed in several parts of the city, including Bothwell Street, Glassford Street and St Vincent Street.
The streets of Glasgow city centre have been redesigned in the image of New York as filming for the new Spider-Man movie takes place.
US flags and banners have been draped on the sides of buildings, and Big Apple-style street furniture and food stalls lines the streets alongside New York Police Department cars, buses, and now-iconic yellow taxis.
On Sunday, Tom Holland, who is reprising his role as Spider-Man, was spotted filming scenes while clad in the web-slinger's famous suit.

Spider-Man 4 filming to take over Glasgow this summer
Spider-Man 4, officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, follows the huge success of 2021's No Way Home, which grossed $1.9bn worldwide - making it the sixth highest-grossing movie in history.
Filming began in Glasgow on August 1 and was originally expected to continue until August 15.
However, The Herald can exclusively reveal that Marvel Studios and Columbia Pictures - who are co-producing the movie - have secured permission from Glasgow City Council to extend the shoot.
Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day will now continue until August 26 - 11 days longer than was previously anticipated.

The Herald understands that filming will continue in the Merchant City area of the city until August 18, before halting for a few days and then picking up again from August 21 until August 26.
Road restrictions indicate that production will move to Hutchison Street from August 16 to August 18, before taking over Cochrane Street, John Street, South Frederick Street and Montrose Street from August 21 to August 26.
Glasgow City Council has now revised its list of traffic restrictions in place in the city centre to accommodate the shoot being extended:
Prohibition of vehicle movements
09:00hrs on the 22 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on the 26 August 2025
Cochrane Street for its full length
John Street between Ingram Street and Cochrane Street
South Frederick Street, southbound only, for its full length
Prohibition of vehicle movements
05:00hrs on the 22 August 2025 to 22:00hrs on the 24 August 2025
John Street between George Street and Cochrane Street
Prohibition of vehicle movements
07:00hrs on the 25 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on the 26 August 2025
Montrose Street between George Street and Ingram Street
Prohibition of waiting, loading and unloading
15:00hrs on 21 August 2025 to 23:59hrs on 26 August 2025
Cochrane Street for its full length
Montrose Street between George Street and Ingram Street
Plot details remain for the movie remain under wraps, but long-time Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal, teased what we can expect from the story during an appearance on a podcast in December last year.
She said: 'We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker [in No Way Home], and that he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard.'
The forthcoming movie marks the fourth instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man franchise, and creators have said it will see a change in tone when compared with the previous three movies, which were released in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Approached by The Herald about the shoot, a spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: 'While we cannot comment on individual productions, the council's Glasgow Film Office is in constant dialogue with film, broadcast and advertising productions of all sizes who are interested in filming in the city to establish how we can support them.
"These productions bring a significant economic benefit to Glasgow, and have helped to steadily grow the capacity of our film and broadcast sector in recent years, as seen in new facilities such as the Kelvin Hall studio.'

MasterChef winner defends John Torode and admits 'I feel awful' Thomasina Miers became the first winner of a new look MasterChef when it launched in 2005, but now she has spoken out on what she thinks of the recent allegation against John Torode John Torode has been axed from MasterChef (Image: BBC) Former MasterChef winner Thomasina Miers has said that she "feels awful" after John Torode sacked from his role on the BBC show. ‌ After the pair were chosen to co-host the rebooted MasterChef in 2005, John Torode and Gregg Wallace formed what quickly became one of the most iconic duos in British TV. ‌ But their partnership was torn apart in recent weeks after 45 complaints were upheld against Wallace, which included one for "unwelcome physical contact" and three involving a state of undress. Meanwhile, soon after Wallace's demise his co-host Torode saw one allegation of racism upheld against him, leading to his dismissal. ‌ Torode has passionately denied the allegation of racism and has expressed his shock and sadness. Thomasina Miers won MasterChef in 2005 (Image:for Pen) Thomasina shared a look back to her time on the show during a chat on the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast. She disclosed what she thought about the news of Torode's upheld allegation: "I felt awful for John. I mean, and also the elegance of his response to it, how he conducted himself." ‌ She added: "I think, yeah, I was kind of gobsmacked by John (the news of the allegation being upheld), who was so caring and intent on the people under his watch, under his care." Thomasina was crowned winner of MasterChef in the first of the rebooted series of the show in 2005. A year after winning the competition, she co-founded her own restaurant chain, the popular Mexican-style street food brand Wahaca, which now has 14 sites in the UK. John Torode saw an allegation of racism upheld against him (Image: Dave) ‌ Thomasina is not the only celebrity to show their support for Torode following the racism allegation. Amanda Holden and McFly star Danny Jones liked the former MasterChef star's post on Instagram from July 14 where he confirmed that he was the individual who was alleged to have used "racial language". A BBC spokesperson released a statement saying: "John Torode has identified himself as having an upheld allegation of using racist language against him. "This allegation – which involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace – was investigated and substantiated by the independent investigation led by the law firm Lewis Silkin. John Torode denies the allegation. ‌ She was the first winner of the rebooted MasterChef in 2005 (Image: Getty Images for Freuds) "He has stated he has no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment. "The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode's contract on MasterChef will not be renewed." Article continues below The first three episodes of the latest series of MasterChef - featuring Torode and Wallace before they were axed - dropped on iPlayer yesterday morning (Wednesday, August 6). The episodes appear to have been edited to include fewer jokes between the pair and less chat between them and the amateur chefs than usual.
